  1. Found some Castrol GTX 15w40 Dino SM-CF rated in the shed. Under zinc'd but otherwise fine to top up from halfway between marks on dipstick? Need to go for a fang when this rain finally sods off. New filter, windage plate etc will be here in another week.
  2. I spoke to a very nice young man on the phone last night as I was confirming my order. I think it's likely a friendly resolution will be found. I emailed them this morning after this shitstorm broke, suggesting they work it out for mutual benefit.
  3. Beer vouchers coming your way.
  4. Hells bells. I thought it was your plate as you had bulk supplied them to shops all over. You were slow getting back to me with your price and meanwhile I was searching about for filters. I thought I was saving you the trouble of doing me a oneoff when your price came in.
  5. Buying a generic house brand filter would be as much about price as anything else I would think. In today's day and age it is simple enough to buy them via the internet and they will show up at your house a few days later. There are more than a few quality filter brands out there that make filters for our Guzzi's. Any one of them should be easy enough to get with just a little planning.Research here has yielded precious little in the way of useful data to make comparisons. International postage costs more than the filter so I wanted to see if could find something suitable that's not a three to twelve hour plane ride away.
  6. I actually thought it was a case of Pete having to make me a one-off and g.b having them on the shelf. I found theirs while looking for filters. Order made and dispatched already. It's a great thing Pete did, figuring out what was needed and designing it, producing it and delivering, but in invention terms it's a "wheel" if you know what I mean. I feel worse for Pete than the inventor of cornflakes, but his machinist must be charging far too much, or else Gutsibits keep their guy chained up in the basement.
  7. Wound up ordering a windage plate and service kit from Gutsibits, so a UFI oil filter will have to do.
  8. What? Ale made without hops altogether? That would have to be some flaccid muck! I thought ale used to be made like that, maybe a little honey added some preserving, but hops were adopted in desperation to supply the colonists, only to straightaway become a defining element of what we know as beer.
  9. Hiding out. As luck would have it there's a Transdiesel just around the corner! They only have the full synth SL rated 10w40 iRide listed on the website. They also have ENI Marine synth 10w40 on bulk buy promo special, what chance that's good?
  10. To add to the availability conundrum, my local Guzzi dealer is rumoured to be a crook so I don't wish to darken his door. Does any other motorcycle brand share this filter?
  11. I bet the dried out colonials lapped up everything that hadn't gone to vinegar.

    v11 major overhaul

Started life as a 1100 Sport?
  13. Badabing, badaboom, badabump, geddit? Catalytic converter. No Volvo dealer here but if you can give me the ENI brew # I can get it.
  14. All should read that epic interview, thanks Docc.
  15. Badabump for what oil in NZ please? Amsoil is available but damn pricey for an old tractor.... What year did they introduce CAT filters?
  16. Reading linked threads winds up with a rachet_hack diversion, can't be arsed reading that.. Gathered the main issue with filters is having enough gasket thickness relative to the compression and subsequent clearance to the rim, due to Guzzi not allowing for slight variability and in fact specc'ing a filter that can hit the sump when only just compressed to industry norm. What are common dimensions of filters that wind on nicely? If I can run a ruler over the gasket and eyeball it on the bench before committing to buying it, I'm streets ahead.
  17. I did read up a little on filters awhile ago. If I remember, flow rate vs available pressure vs filtered size of particle about covers what is expected. Want more flow, use a bigger unit. A diesel motor is far more stressed than any bike engine so my take on "power filters" for bikes is, yeah whatever. Sure there will be some modern researched slightly improved flow rate materials. Enable a smaller filter / more flow for a given particle size and clogging rate. The free lunch looks extremely hard to find. The real question is, does the parts store list by capabilities or simply the physical dimensions?
  18. As luck would have it a Toyota Hilux filter fits a V11, any reason I shouldn't use store brand (Ryco, from Repco if you're from down this way)
  19. My Tenni turned up today. A fair bit rougher round the edges than the photos but what ya gonna do? Haven't opened her up yet but she pulls nicely in the lower revs. Got home, checked oil, I see what you're all on about with the dipstick dipstick. Really hard to tell where the level is, but seems a little low. At least I am tall and slim enough to stand over her vertically while balancing on flat feet and dipping. Some would say gangly. Rear UJ doesn't appear to have seen a grease gun this decade. Some oily mist issued from vaguely forward of the left porkchop when started up and warming up. Yippeekayay, hey, no electrical problems! I'll start a proper thread later.
  20. Sounds a bit rich, and after shipping you'd be another what, 2k lighter? Presumably you have a gnarly compliance regime like ours to get it road legal? I'd say keep looking.
  21. ummm... which one the wee red thing or the green n gold thing... that my man you should knowThe green/gold thing with the fern, sorry, not familiar with 2T racers in NZ.
  22. Has to be Italian, some 2T racer, so Aprilia 250?
  23. Do you need new sockets for 5 pins where 4 pins used to be?
