Aircraft/ piloting analogies
JRD replied to docc's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
One of my other expensive hobbies is sailing. While learning how to sail it was explained to me that a sail works somewhat similar to an aircraft wing. High pressure on one side, low pressure on the opposite side which creates "lift" and provides the forward momentum for the vessel. Helped me understand why so many aircraft pilots were interested in sailing. But I never met a pilot that could understand why I liked sky diving! -
If you take care of it properly you will have gray hair and still be riding it!

Docc-You need to buy that puppy! Just imagine how that would look if you took the fairing off and installed in on your Sport. The color contrast between your silver tank and the green fairing would take everyones breath away!.
-
If you have been storing your gasket between the pages of a Triumph calendar you better check before installing. It may have already absorbed the oil leaked by the Brit Bikes. I can say that since I have one :-)

Im going to date myself here (almost prehistoric), that reminds me of the puzzles in the "Highlights for Children" magazines. Can you find the_________ in the picture.
-
Chuck- I have seen you guys refer to "the pink milk shake" on several occasions. Would you please explain exactly what this is... Jerry

*Polished wrenches for polished things*

I have a Sears/Craftsman, pretty sure its a 2-1/2HP, 20gal tank that I paid around $200.00 for umpteen years ago. Sorry I cant provide exact HP rating and tank size as we are still in Georgia. But it is big enough that I use my 1/2" impact gun to remove lug nuts on the cars, or run my cutters and polishers. You might check local pawn shops for a used one in good condition, or your local Lowes/Home Depot. Or................... Dear Santa......all I want for Christmas......... -
Scud-When you get a chance, can you please post a picture of the Maxi Fuse holder and how it is installed on the bike. You guys have me paranoid now and I think Im going to upgrade my bike just to avoid any possible problem.

What was that I said in the other thread about someone cornering the market on used V-11's? Nice catch Tim, I followed the previous owners thread over on Wild Guzzi. It was obvious by his threads that he really enjoyed that bike and it was a difficult decision to sell, only motivated by his job opportunity. Has California given notice that you will soon be required to obtain a dealers license? ;-) Jerry

Great, thanks much- Jerry

Scud - do you have a link to the MRA website or the retailer you bought yours from?

George- Did you put a postage stamp on it?! Bill H - HHHmmmmmmm, well do you know how to read?. Plausible deniability....... Bill, Hope you dont mind me having some fun here. Please pass along to George and Dennis that we really did miss them.....really.....Im serious now.....really :-)

My '02 LM just turned over 7K while I was on my failed iceberg run this past weekend so Im not in any rush to start looking for a replacement. Now Czakky on the other hand......and the one in LA is a twin to his current ride! He would have alllllllll kinds of inter-changeable parts!!!! :-D
-
Wow that '02 LeMans out in Los Angeles is a beauty. And this is a great time of the year for a Fly and Ride from LA to Tx. Hope it goes to a good home.

New member is looking for a V11. Did you guys buy them all up? Docc, were you peering over at Scud when you asked that? I think he is starting a collection of them so he will have a never ending supply of spare parts.

Like I said, I cant ever recall being that cold. Just before I arrived back home I noticed how cold my chest and upper torso was getting and I was actually starting to shiver. Thats the closest I have come to hypothermia. After I got home and peeled all my clothes off I was amazed how damp everything was. All because I took my hard luggage racks and bags off and thought my two piece suit would be too hot and no where to store it on the ride home. Lesson learned.

Probably a welcome sight after seeing nothing but Hardleys. And you probably smelled better too HHHHaaaaaa

And looking at the crew in that photo two thoughts come to mind- Do I really want to ride 175 miles to go for breakfast and be seen in public with THOSE GUYS????!!!!!!! Did the women grab their kids and run for cover while the clerk locked and bolted the doors? Looks like you guys had a great time, really wish I could have made it.

OOOOHHHH KKKKaaaayyyyy!!!! Very funny! When I woke up at 06:00 this morning the thermometer on the front porch showed 43 degrees F. Hmmmm Not THAT bad, weather reports say its supposed to warm up into the mid 80's. After all, I was born and raised near Buffalo, NY. I KNOW COLD. Put the insulated liner in my jacket, slipped on my heavy riding jeans, tee shirt, long sleeve jersey, heavy socks, & boots and gloves. Im ready to roll. Leave the house at 07:00 in pitch dark and before I make it one mile to the highway my face shield is streaked with water droplets, WTF? Ok I ll Leave the shield open a bit so I can see where Im going. Damnnn its cold out here today. Make it seven miles from the house and pull over, put on the neck/chin warmer along with the glove liners to block out some of the cold air. Close the air intake vents on the top of my full face helmet and back on the road I go west on Ga. Hwy76. As it undulates up and down along Lake Chautaug I notice the damp fog hanging in the low lying areas And water coming off the fairing and windshield as if Im going thru a rain shower! As I turn north on Ga Hwy 17 into North Carolina, then West onto US Hwy 64 I realize I am starting to feel REALLY COLD! About half way between Hayesville and Murphy, NC my knees are starting to ache and my fingers are going numb! Stop the train, GPS shows I still have over two and one half hours to go before can meet the guys. Maybe if I can find a restaurant I can grab a cup and warm up. Wrong, its Sunday morning and nothing is open yet. At that point I made the decision to turn around and head for home with my tail between my frozen legs. I wanted so bad to go for one last fall ride and meet everyone. I have been cold before but I cant ever recall being this cold. Lesson learned- If you have an insulated full riding suit, wear it, its easier to open the vents and cool off than it is to try and warm up when your man marbles are frozen!

That final drive came out great!!! That looks better than the original factory finish. Keep up the good work!!!

I am still considering re-locating my reg/rec just to clean things up. My bike has the oil cooler, reg/rec AND fuel pump all stuff up in the front of the bike. And the Reg/rec. sits partially over the timing cover. Drives me crazy everytime I look at it!
-
Tim are you going to re-install it in its original location under the oil cooler or re-locate it, possibly under the battery/tool tray? I checked on my bike again and looks like there is plenty of room between the underside of the tray and above the tire/fender, and still get plenty of air flow. Seems like it would be much easier now with all the plastic off and engine out. Just thought I would plant the seed....busy hands are happy hands! :-D Jerry
