Gorgeous machine. Love the bar end mirrors. Well done.

True. I was shocked by the wide range of mileage on my V11. I thought there might be something wrong at first. In the city mileage can be quite poor, but on the open road it will return around 40mpg, which is acceptable to me.

Quite apt.

Help...shifting, clutch, and stalling in gear issues
Antiquar replied to bobbysworld86's topic in Technical Topics
I don't think the rear wheel really obstructs the slave cylinder. If anything removing the rear shock reservoir would ease bleeding the clutch; though you can definitely do the job without removing anything. Good point on the brake, however, and removing the rear wheel would also making greasing the driveshaft a bit easier. -
Help...shifting, clutch, and stalling in gear issues

The service manual calls for DOT4 brake fluid in the clutch line. -
I applied a small measure of Permatex Form-A-Gasket #2.

I addressed my TDC sensor oil leak/weep. The o-ring was very hard and stiff; it had probably never been renewed in the bike's 16 years. I added a touch of sealant around the wire as well. After a short ride there was no evidence of a continued leak. Here's hoping it will stay that way.

Nice flock you have there. That V50 is really something special.

Deja vu... again

Apparently the black V7s want to grow up to be Silver-Red-Frame V11s one day.

Check the Hepco & Becker distributor for your country. I believe they still offer racks for our V11s.

That is a great idea--not only for looks, but for heat. That area is probably the worst possible location for those electrics.
-
Perhaps you could drill through the bolts and fasten a cotter pin for additional safety.

Did a full tune up--valves, spark plugs, TPS, TBS. Everything was pretty close to where'd I'd last set it. There's nothing like a freshly tuned bike.

Looking sharp! I didn't know DMV was releasing the classic black plates for bikes, too. Very cool.

V11 on the Crest.

Wow, -27. My CO trim was at 0 but bumping it to +5 cured my V11's sneeze. Since then I've dropped it to +3 in a vain attempt to increase fuel efficiency. At +3 I will get a very rare sneeze, but much better than it was at 0. I have some slight cracks in the intake rubbers, so I may try the electrical tape trick for the moment.

If only that were so for me. My V11 has to navigate dense traffic and countless (ok... 15) traffic lights before reaching the slab... and then some nice roads. She spends far too much time idling. I overthought this one. I should just turn up the idle a couple hundred RPM. That'll probably be enough to get the idle charging to 12.6V when hot.

What did you dislike about the CRGs? I had a set of CRG Lanesplitter mirrors on my old Thruxton. They worked great (and they'd better given the cost). I bet the Napoleons look better, though. Any photos?

Good point Camn. My V11 is equipped with a manual petcock. And I replaced the R/R with an Enduralast direct to battery unit. I understand the behavior of this R/R might be different from the ducati version. I thought perhaps I am experiencing poor venting in the tank, resulting in greater draw from the fuel pump, but I've verified that the venting is good. Well, it's a Saturday morning. I'd better do some more riding as research.

After installing a voltmeter to monitor charging on my V11 I have discovered a curious behavior. When started cold, idle voltage (measured between battery terminals) is around 12.6V. Perfectly normal. A full charging voltage of >14V is achieved very quickly with throttle. However, after the bike has been ridden at least some minutes and miles, idle voltage will drop to 12.4V. The charging system will still achieve > 14V but it takes more time (on the order of seconds, something around 10s vs 3s). The fact that the charging system will output the full voltage has me somewhat content. But the voltage drop when hot confounds me. Is this a normal feature of the R/R, possibly to prevent overcharging the battery when it has been replenished? Or perhaps the ECU has leaned the mixture sometime after starting and the idle is lower? I haven't noticed a perceptibly lower idle RPM on my gauge, but the Veglia gauge is not reliable anyway. Curious what insight you folks might have. The charging system has been the only real PITA since buying my V11, so maybe I'm being too anal.

Installed an LED voltmeter to keep an eye on charging. I tapped into the headlight circuit. Not the prettiest meter but it'll do for the moment, and it will be easily removable. Next time I have the tank off I need to cleanup my electrical work and make a nice harness.

The bike looks pretty good fully loaded. Nice job.

How to prevent boiling out your rear brake....
Antiquar replied to Rox Lemans's topic in Technical Topics
My rear caliper can lock the rear surprisingly easily with fresh pads and a fresh (upside down) bleed.
