The paddle shifts on the Audi TT 3.2V are awful- have tried them- a real slow pain in the arse.

The USA Iron Butt rally was won a few years ago on an old Tonti Guzzi (may have been a LM1) ridden by a mad Brit. I have never needed to do a 1000 miles a day although I have done 3000 in 6 days on my old Sporti Corsa which made me swap to a comfier Le Mans. 600 miles is my limit although I have done 300 enduro miles in a day several times which is a little harder depending upon the territory. I like to be in control of gear shifts- have only driven an automatic once and I hated it. In the UK, automatic transmission tends to be specified by only elderly and disabled people who want an easy drive. The performance of an automatic version of the same car is nearly always slower, although I can understand in the USA that your roads are different and auto trans may be better for you. Plus if I had a automatic I would not be able to do rolling burnouts on the empty moors so easily! Guy

Back to the fugly Norge- I am struggling to see why someone would sell their V11 to get one. Once you get a few accessories a V11 makes an excellent sports tourer- I already have luggage, GPS, comfy seat, nice fairing and nearly 200 mile tank range. Maybe the only advantage is 2 up comfort on the Norge. I understand that Guzzi will be charging about £9000 for the Norge- I think that unlike the Breva 1100 which is well priced at £7000 most of these will sit in showrooms gathering dust until they are heavily discounted. So far it seems that its early V11 sport owners who prefer it wound on and later V11 Le Mans / Ballabio owners generally like it wound off.

Its actually £15k for a new one but I reckon you could haggle cos there are at least 3 still unsold here. At least you would have an interesting ride home from the UK- I can see you riding off road on it in India heading down under! Guy

Yep the place I bought them from is now charging nearly £180 according to their website. Similar to Noggie my boots have scraped off a line of paint but I don't care and cant be arsed to repaint them cos they will only wear again. I also like the "used" look. Guy

The good thing about doing it yourself is that you can take your time and apply grease to where its needed and be sure the job is done properly. I had a bad experience on my Ducati 900SS about 9 years ago. I was really busy at work and a tyre dealer in Pompey was advertising fitting the tyres to the bike for £20 so I took them up on their offer. On my ride home I applied to rear brake to find the caliper rotating around the wheel because they had not located it properly in the bracket. Needless to say I went ape with them and got a big refund. With my Rosso Corsa I got the first two tyre changes done by dealers- firstly Cobb and Jagger because I broke down with a puncture then Agostinis because I was on holiday and neither of them seemed to have used a drop of grease on the splines or axle- I guess they just do it as quick as they can. You mean the MGS01 on EBAY? I have corresponded with the guy selling the MGS01 about 6 months ago and he seems genuine- he works at Kawasaki Newcastle. He bought it from the Guzzi dealer in Newcastle who raced it first. The bike has been raced in club events and maybe the discount of £2500 over a new one (several available) is not enough. Guy

I have mine permanently on its minimum setting- the bike is very stable anyway and never has slappers so I dont need any extra damping. Guy
