Have you ever owned a BMW R100RS ? Fairing question.
billgreenman1 replied to arveno's topic in Technical Topics
Put around 18k mi. on a '91 K100rs; it had a Luftmeister windshield extension on it and I took it off after about 6 months and sold it at a swap meet to a k-bike guy who wanted it more than me. The aerodynamics of the bike would kick in about 85-90 and would be solid and relatively quiet. The mirrors blocked out the wind and rain. I really can't decide if I regret trading in for a '95 GS 1100. If I could have afforded keeping both I would have. The GS ended up getting an Aeroflow and I put 100k on it. I think the ideal scenario would be something akin to the HD Electra glide removable rig....maybe...to each their own... -
I guess I got lucky a couple years ago when I replaced mine, but I wouldn't have minded because every one of those on any bike I've had came on way too early. Even my 2022 RE 350's light comes on with like the better part of a gallon left...

Got my replacement zadi pl336 ignition switch bolted on to the lock plate...the wires are different colors and I guess I'm more color blind than I thought...
-
Ok,so I have finally gotten around to replacing my ignition switch (I broke the housing in a ham-handed attempt to take it apart, ) and have actually found a zadi pl336 replacement from Aprilia rsv1000. But instead of being truly "plug and play" the plug fittings and the wire coloring is different. Strike one, I suck at everything electrical, and strike two, I guess I'm a little more color blind than I thought I was. I really don't want to F(mess) this up, it is only four wires, and I'd rather never deal with this again. So, the original wires are (remind I'm a bit color blind) Brown (Orange?) Yellow and red Blue and red Brown (orange?) The new part is Yellow Grey/yellow Orange/(green?) Orange Can any of you fine folks help me out with matching the wires? Yeah A little lazy relying on others, but hey, isn't that what forums are all about?

Maui mountain dew
billgreenman1 replied to ScuRoo's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
'97 or '98 I was on Skyline Drive and the East sides of the mountains were bright sunshine and the west sides were rain and fog. Kinda exhausting with the hot/cold transitions, even with decent Aerostich gear... -

Amazing! But I don't think I saw a hammer anywhere on or near the Guzzi workbench...ððĪð -
Finally got around to moving the bike to a more favorable position to mess with. Drained the old gasoline out getting ready to remove the tank when I was promptly swarmed by a cloud of mosquitoes and gave up for the day...

ANSWERED V11 for sale online/ Craigslist and all others
billgreenman1 replied to chamberlin's topic in 24/7 V11
Relay bypass surgery, Roper plate, evap garbage removal, what else? I'd like to work towards "priceless" ...uh yeah mosfet, etc...I imagine that it is like an old world cathedral; when the work is completed the world ends. ð -
I wouldn't know what it was worth or how to use it. The 1st of these I've seen was on the V11 on BaT last week. ( I haven't even pulled off the evap garbage yet either)... So louder and richer?

I think I read somewhere that the average driver's depth perception doesn't register the single headlight of a motorcycle as accurately as the two headlights of a car, and helps contribute to the frequency of the cross-lane T-bone. I've experienced this myself at night with both oncoming motorcycles and cars with a burnt out headlight! One of the bazillion "danger flags" that bubble through the cauldron of my safety zone thoughts while out on the road...

The Perfect Vehicle book
billgreenman1 replied to 4corsa's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Read it years back, and thought it spoke well touching some of the intangible elements and sensations. Gonna have to take a look at it again and see how time has changed my feelings about the things it brings out. If I remember correctly it briefly bounces into T.E.Lawrence and his Brough Superior also! -

Agreed! There's some kinda weird nostalgia in my twisted sense of aesthetics that stirs my soul when I see a square (rectangular)-ish headlight! -
Greener than blue, but the model is correct, with the twin discs... quicker revving than the bigger airhead boxers, black valve covers and silver "snowflake" wheels. Fun machine. Since I basically started out with a shaft drive opposed twin, the torque twist is natural to me and I adjust to it and counter steer even when I'm on a "traditional" chain drive!ð

No pictures. After taking the ABATE class I traded my 1978 Saab 99GL (with weeping $900 brake calipers and rebuilding kits unavailable and a failing cold start switch) for a "bottle fly blue green" 1981 BMW R65 with around 9500 miles. The dude I got it from had put a matching color Windjammer on it, and once I pulled that off and replaced the original headlight and blinkers it was fun as hell scraping the foot peg feelers and peaking out the Ronnie Reagan 85mph speedometer on the curves and hills of southern Indiana. After about 3 years I traded it in and got K100RS and the person who bought it crashed it a few months later. Still keep an eye out for one, but the exhilaration of the younger me probably paints the memory of that bike a little brighter than the reality of actual item. I do remember the right side Bing carberator dumping gas on my foot occasionally...

I did my tank after seeing how bad the original material was, cutting multiple templates and modifying the shape for a better fit. I don't remember exactly where I got the stuff, but it pretty much matches what everyone else seems to have. One thing is for sure: simply taking the time to fit the pieces correctly will be immensely better than what I found under my tank! ( figured it must have been a five vino lunch break on a Friday when mine was done in Italy)...ðĪŠ

Days like this....

When it ends well it's great to chalk it up as a satisfying thing. I seem to miss shifts & such when I'm about 15 minutes in after not riding much, and the inevitable "is it me or the bike?" is more often me..... -
It is worth what someone else will pay is what I use to rationalize almost everything on BaT. ð Some of my brother's friends who are deeper into the car world half-jokingly describe BaT as the money laundering and fantasy valuation site!ðĪð

Love F9's content, even though sometimes he comes off as being full of himself ð. "Look at the color scemes" works better with the new 650 cruiser for me! -

I've always lusted after one of these, now partially sated by my RE 350 single. Every time I think about lower bars and more rear set pegs though, I remember my age, arthritis etc. and settle back to the fat ass seat and stupidly easy egos. I'll save the aches and pains for the v11... -
I've been told that it is "bad" to run a fuel injection car or bike out of gas... when I did a tank-off maintenance I ran the pump a few times before hitting the starter; is this an old wives' tale?

I'll be curious about the dealer network and, of course, the MSRP. I'm kinda turned off by current Guzzi dealerships as I'd have to go from Indianapolis to Cincinnati to reach the closest one... As with any new type I think I'd wait a while to see about the bugs getting worked out...
