Mine is identical to Ben's. Rj -
Check your side stand switch too and its connectors - they have a propensity for collecting crud just because of where they are. It can also be bypassed to check. Rj

Hate to say it, bud, but my moneys on either the oil filter coming loose or the oil level is down, exposing the pick up. Either way it would mean a new crank and rod bearings at least... Pull the pan (or even just the manhole) and check the status of the filter... If she's come loose expect the above. If tight and you've been keeping on top of the oil level, you might just be lucky enough that it is the clutch. Would the oil pressure indicator come on if the clutch goes?? Don't know but I don't think so... Think I'll be watching epay for a spare crank, just for karma... cheers, Rj

Yup. Hard to foresee what today will be worth money in the future. I remember as a kid destroying Wayne Gretzky rookie cards. Sticking them in spokes, throwing against the wall, starting fires etc. Nobody liked him, too small to play in the NHL, never hit, never fought etc. You couldn't trade them to anyone then. Now (last time I checked) they were worth $1500 US each. I must have wrecked $100K worth of them. Of course part of the reason they are so valuable now is that so many were destroyed back then... who knew he would become the greatest player ever to play the game. Rj

Antonio's desperate to show off his banana, so I had one of his coworkers send me a shot of him at the beach.

Yes, Pete, it arrived Friday - bungled by customs as I expected... I think they still have my relays too. Plate looks great Thanks! Ryan -

Dealing with Telemarketers
badmotogoozer replied to helicopterjim R.I.P.'s topic in Special place for banter and conversation
The way our phone system here works (or used to work, I haven't had a telemarketer in a long time) is that the connection is only terminated when the callee hangs up. When I get a telemarketer I just put the phone down in front of the radio or TV and wait for the screams when they realize their line is stuck open no matter what they do. I'll let them wail and scream for about a half hour before I pick it up and say "thanks for holding, all our operators are currently busy" and hang up. Could be why I don't get telemarketers anymore. No offense at all Greg! We both had that comin'... Oh, and Martin - the sock goes in the FRONT of the Speedo, not the back. Rj

Tighten Up Those Filters, Boys . . .
badmotogoozer replied to Greg Field's topic in Technical Topics
I sure enough know this for fact! I have a rather lengthy list of bolts, nuts, footpegs, brackets, etc etc etc - which have elected to abandon ship. Some were even loctited. The blue stuff mind you, not the red. Learned to only use the red on things that I never expect to take apart again... There seems to be a certain RPM which causes bits to resonate - I watched all the nuts on my windscreen screws as they all spun off in unison - fast! Had never taken it apart, it happily went 5K kms. One morning, left the house, two blocks later - screen drops. Saw the nuts start to go, thought I could get home before they fell, but the nuts came off like something out of "Poltergeist". Some who have met my bike believe it is possessed... Rj -
Blithering idiot... yes, well, I do resemble that on occasion. Not the first time I've had that one tossed at me. "Snivelling little weasel" was a new one though! Rj

All you needed to say was "we have investigated it and found that it does indeed force the fluid down" at which I would have responded in kind. I'm surprised that there is more than one on the board anal enough to actually go to that depth... well, now that I think about it, it really isn't that surprising. I believe it is quite evident what sort of chap you are. I'm sorry if I missed the whole "archemedes screw discussion" in the plethora of info here. It's hard to keep track when your posts all begin with a lengthy discussion of how you are at the top of the intelligence ladder and all who might disagree are idiots. If I can make it through the crap, quite often you have something interesting to say. I just can't be bothered to wade through all the self important shite to get to some meat. The POINT of my response was that WHAT one uses to lube is not particularly important. Certainly one should not be labelled a fool for using a lube other than Redline. Rj

One man's idiocy is another man's awakening. Rj -
Once again, when cornered, Ratcho resorts to personal attacks. Is that the best you've got?? I think it is quite clear to anyone with half a brain who the idiot is. Your pointing finger leaves 3 more pointing right back at you, the king of self proclamation! Keep up the humerous posts! Your self righteousness is extremely entertaining! God forbid the plug ever drops from your asshole. Rj
-
Once again you show your ignorance, Ratch. The Archemedes Screw was designed to draw water UP from a well, against all forces of nature, as you have spewn. Depending on how the coil is wound (and I admit I have no idea and am not about to investigate) it may be forcing fluid UP the cable. Surface Tension (another Force of Nature) also plays a part in the wicking of fluid UP the cable. A blocked breather COULD also cause pressure in the trans to push fluid UP the cable. Likelyhood of that... well that's moot. I don't think that anyone who has wrenched a bike would argue that lubing of cables is necessary, but your OPINION of what to lube with is certainly not the ONLY choice. WHAT to lube with is far less important than the lubing itself. To insinuate that your way is the only way and all others are spawn by blithering idiots is completely ridiculous. If the day ever comes that you post looking for a new speedo as yours is chunked with thick red goo, I will laugh like a hyena. Rj

Tighten Up Those Filters, Boys . . .
badmotogoozer replied to Greg Field's topic in Technical Topics
Well, I'm not naive enough to believe that only idiots and morons have had their filters come loose. For whatever reason, filters HAVE been coming loose lately. I can't see a downside to the filter clamp, especially if one of Pete's sloppers is installed. In the unlikelyhood that it (clamp) did come off - seems to me it would be kept clear of the munching bits by the slopper. And if no slopper - where is it going to go?? Gravity will keep it in the bottom of the pan until it sloshes up to the magnet on the plug, where it will remain until next change. I can't imagine a force while riding that would cause it to jump out of the oil and into the moving bits. Too big to get sucked into the oil pick up. A bit of "belt and suspenders" seems warranted in this case as the damage from a loosened filter far outweighs a two dollar clamp. I really don't get all the hostility over this. I'm with Pete and Greg - have not heard one reasonable argument to not lock down the filter. Rj -
ducati 1098, lookin desmoRR
badmotogoozer replied to DeBenGuzzi's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Aguy at work bought a Classic Sport. Sold it recently as he couldn't ride it. He's about 6" shorter than me (makes him about 5'8) and a real bean pole. Loved the bike but couldn't ride a tank of gas without being crippled for a couple days. Same universal complaint with the MHe. Gorgeous bikes, rideable by nobody. Ducati took a fabulous idea and botched it up proper! C'mon MG - where's the V7 retro bike??? Make it perform, make it rideable, sell to the masses! How difficult can that be? Rj -
No worries!! I have it on good authority that it will all be over Friday. They're sending TX and his buddies in. Rj

Hey Pete, no sign of my plate yet in canada - but Customs seems to have me on their "Red" list suddenly. The relays I ordered from Dan (USA) have yet to arrive either (sent a couple weeks ago). This last Saturday I went down to the US to pick up some ebay purchases (old Triumph bits) and got the full "treatment" on the way back. I've always declared everything and paid all my taxes so not sure why I'm suddenly a problem with them... Wish it was the little cutie that gave me the pat down but no, I get the gorilla... At least I didn't get the cavity search! Maybe they are concerned that I'm building some sort of terror device with your slopper and some relays... will keep you posted when it arrives. cheers, Ryan

Number 6: Fill forum with evil clowns. Better still, have some 12 year old kid hack into his computer and put Pennywise up as his wallpaper. Rj I see Amsterdam already has their anti-Noggers system up and running. Rj -
Sorry Jim - Since I've been a goodmotogoozer this year Santa has already promised to bring me that 750SS. You could try asking him for the Sport... But there is still more than a month to go... and I'm not sure I can keep being good... Rj

Going to a 160 rear tire was THE best mod I've done to my bike (with the Stucci crossover being a close second). Can't remember if I have a 60 or 70 profile... IIRC it is a 70. Running Avons as well (AV45/46). Good in the wet, good in the dry. Stock size on the front. Rj Nope, I didn't recall correctly... It's a 60 profile on the my rear. I added 1.5 turns to the rear preload to get the ride height up again. (Needed a bit more back there anyway) Hoping my new front springs will be as good a mod or better (as so often crowed about on here ) Rj
