  1. and a new rider to boot! A project I've been working on for a while for my nephew. I know, not a Guzzi... I guess I coulda put a bacon slicer on it... topside view I smile like that on my Ducati
  2. Mine was a regular backfirer until I got it semi-sorted. Would blow TB's off and would also blow the little capplugs zip tied on the intake ports. Now it just backfires here and there when down really low in revs. More sorting to come... Rj

  4. My V11, from the tip of the front tire to the end of the rear, is one big friggin Quirk. Rj
  5. You will have more success begging for forgiveness than asking for permission. If not forgiven, you'll still have the bike. Rj
  6. I don't know what you're talking about It's you and me vs. the world Ben - let's have some fun ya Bastard!! Rj
  7. The shop. Used to be a tennant room but after I evicted her the room was no longer fit for habitation. I'm much happier with the space as heated workshop. Especially since the small single car garage already contains: a 16' classic wooden speedboat and trailer, a 1917 Peterborough canoe, a Duc 750GT, a Duc 450RT, three vintage 50hp Merc outboards, a 6hp Champion outboard, air compressor, a 1962 Pontiac six cylinder 261, a 62' T-10 Vette tranny, workbench, shelving (stuffed), grinder bench, and other large things that I have forgotten and haven't physically seem in years... but I know there's stuff in there the Smithsonian will want soon. another view

    Bollocks

As requested - finally remembered. Was ready before classes started this semester, for once, so knocked another project off the list.
  9. Thanks for the responses! Yup. It was as easy as it looked. Four bolts and it all came apart nicely. Easiest disassemble yet! Found the grease nipple - I think you're right Steve - I see no way of lubing this without removing stuff... Saw the white marks on the shaft - assumed what they were for, but noticed they did not line up... a tooth or two off perhaps. Not put back correct after warranty trans service?? Made my own marks anyway. So next question - Do I reassemble so the white marks line up (ran like that the first half of its life) or line up the marks I made (ran like that for the second half)?? cheers, Rj
  10. Thanks Bill, Got the rear wheel off - have done that several times! Taking the rest apart now. I've stuck my head and fingers everywhere I can, and can't find that front zerk anywhere. I found an old post by Steve G that his 2001 v11 had its front u-joint installed backwards. Since he and I both bought our bikes at nearly the same time from the same dealer, I figure mine might be too. I pretty much expect it knowing how poorly they put my bike together... I need to take the SA off to grease it and the shock eye (nothing was greased from factory so far...) and while I'm at it I may as well find that front nipple and see if I can mill out an access port in the guard. cheers, Rj
  11. Hi all, I've searched the "How to" and Forum for info on taking apart the rear of my 2001 Sport. Not much there so I'm guessing it might be easy... Is it as easy as it looks or are there things I need to know before I take it all apart? Need to remove drive shaft to grease the front U-joint (I can't find the damn zerk to save my life), grease up the swing arm (and shock eye!) and take out the front U-joint guard and mill it so I can grease the thing up nice and easy later. cheers, Rj
  12. Reading high isn't necessarily indicative of a problem. Need to know more about type of meter you are measuring with... The last statement says something though. IIUC, when you use the reg ground as a reference for your measurement and the battery ground (sorry, earth) as a reference for the exact same measurement, you get two different readings (HOW different??). There should be very little (no real discernable) difference. I would run the wire as you suggest. Failing that I'd think the reg/rec has shit the bed. If there is 25-50Vac going in and only battery volyage coming out, the problem is here. Wether it is a bad reg or a bad wire requires investigation... cheers, and good luck with your problem child... I feel your pain, Biggy! Found out over the weekend part of the reason why my Guz fell a few months ago. Seems the floor in the shop has a few "soft" places - he says limping slightly. Wobbly floor and a full tank of gas (I don't remember filling it...) pitched her over. I also installed the head guards I just made (looks good to me), as I discovered when it fell, that the spark plug breaks.... This has me inspired to get working on it again. Start taking apart front end. Notice puddle formed below steering damper. Pull it off - yup - gravelly. So I'll be needing one of those. Look up on Forum - HOLY CRAP they're HOW much???? Go back to taking apart front end. Notice oil all over the top triple. Inspect - Fork oil is leaking out the TOP of the cap - right around the adjuster screw. How the hell is that possible??? Wonder what's waiting for me in the steering head... Shite, I'm not even using the thing and it's going to hell in a handcart. Hope my newfound enthusiasm lasts long enough to get something accomplished before I get discouraged again. cheers, Rj
  14. Taken to heart? Never. It has put him on my list of unreliable sources though. Rj
  15. Well said Martin. Waving a so-hailed "bible" of gun control at me isn't going to do a damn thing. It is only one book written by one man and his opinions on the subject. Using "scientific" in the same sentence with "gun control" just gets my head shaking. Very rarely does one see both sides of the story in the same book (any subject). We all make our decisions and form our beliefs from our experiences, from what we read (each of us determines for ourselves what is and is not a credible source), and from the experiences of others. I would think that with the vast majority of folks on this board (seemingly) being educated, intelligent people, our opinions and views should be respected by our fellow listers. I doubt that most of the people here would believe anything and everything that the "conspiracy theorists" are jamming down their throats without questioning it. Just because one disagrees with another's point of view is no reason to belittle and chastise that person, or their opinion. To do so shows a distict lack of character. As Martin has pointed out, having a handgun in the house is a dangerous thing. You are only 2 mistakes away from someone (likely you or a family member) getting hurt or killed. This is my point in the discussion. So far I've been belittled, berated, scoffed at, told to look up simple words in the dictionary, and ridiculed for that opinion. Not a single word on point. Time to hit the G&T - I gotta catch up to Martin. Rj
  16. Don't worry biggy. I'm positive that that .0001% will likely be me. I seem to have the bike that was the last one off the line, Friday afternoon, right before the place shut down for the big holiday. Rj
  17. Don't feel too bad Jon - from someone who recently had his V11 fling itself mercilously onto his finally finished 74 Duc... Whilst I cannot argue with Mr. Hack on his prescription of a snifter of St Remy and a stogie, I do know that there are certain times (when Mr Murphy whacks you TWICE with the stick) when a much stronger solution is required. My situation took a gallon of the cheapest tequilla to be found, along with a little "skunk in a rug" before things could be set right again. Counselling is a waste. Keep killing brain cells until you get the one who's making the most noise. Rj
  18. Sooooo.... when ya coming to Canada Pete?? I promise - no weed whackers up the arse - unless that's your kind of thing... Rj
  19. I'm with Ben - heat on my legs has never been anything I have ever noticed on my V11. Can't say anything about the Breva though as I've never ridden one. But... I think when he said the grey was hot, I don't think he meant the heat from da pipes... but I've been wrong before... quite regularly actually. Rj
  20. No argument there. I am just making the distinction that a handgun in particular has no purpose except to kill people. A rifle or shotgun has an intended purpose in the killing of animals for food. In this case it functions as a tool. Filling the freezer with non-steroid, non-mad cow, non-bird flu good eatin' meat. This is the purpose my guns serve, as they have since I was very young. Rj
  21. So you have nothing to say on point. As I have come to expect. Rj
  22. I'm Baaaaack! If you read post #63 (which I posted) you will see that you have misquoted me again. I said the only purpose for a handgun is to kill people. I said nothing about homicide. In all your posts you have said nothing that counters this. Bill has been the only one who has answered any of my questions "on point". Thanks again Bill! What other designed purpose is there for a handgun?? Please tell me. Kill people, practise killing people, or threatening to kill people (criminal, military or police). I see no other uses. With the exception of competition shooting (which does not require the gun to be in the home - it can live in the gun safe at the range) I see no real reason to have one in the house with family. Bill has made points here, which I find disturbing about American views on their safety, but I can understand knowing both what transpired on 9/11 and in New Orleans. I am not saying that the police should not have guns. I am not saying that there is no place in society for a handgun. My point is only that the very real downsides to having a handgun in the house far outweigh the potential pros. I am very sorry that the current state of your country leads to fear in your own home. The fact that you have spent serious time practising getting your gun from your bed at lightning speed speaks volumes of how real you percieve the threat to be. I hope that you never have the need to shoot at anything but human shaped silhouettes on paper. Rj
  23. I have a vehement aversion to such things, but I will certainly offer you and Helen the utmost happiness in your lives together. Congratulations! Rj
  24. I'm not sure which I find more threatening - handguns in the house or mail order haggis. Rj
