  2. Whew. Just finished Hacko's latest rant on gun control. Once again, a one sided discussion. Who'da thought. Just a couple of questions. Do you agree that, statistically, one's odds of being shot by a gun kept in the house are far greater than if one has no gun at all? I'm sure you won't need any study quotes for that one. Add children to the equation and it gets a bit scarier. Forget about home defense and only contemplate that picture. I am a very responsible gun owner. Shot from a very early age and had some military training. Safety is always demanded, yet every once in a while, there is an oops. Just enough to keep dilligent. Secondly, how many times have you felt that you have been threatened in your own home? Thirdly, if someone were to force their way into your house, how long would it take you to a)get to your gun unlock gun safe c) unlock trigger lock d) load weapon e) aquire target. OK, more than a couple of questions. If you were in the intruder's shoes and saw your victim getting his gun together, would you not shoot him immediately? I can't say that I am for gun control. I can't say that I support the "gun in every hand" philosophy either. Any time this subject comes up, both sides start quoting this study, that study. Statistics and studies almost always come up with proof of one side or the other depending on who is doing the studying and why. (please no Relativist drivel - you certainly pick and choose which studies to believe. Sorry, by your own definition that makes you a relativist. You choose your truths based on your own criteria of what is acceptable and what is not.) I cannot believe anything that either side quotes from statistics. Both sides have their points and flaws in thinking. Here in Canada we have tried a few control measures. The latest cost us 2 billion dollars to reqister every LAW ABIDING owner and their guns. Didn't make any difference to two separate Mountie slayings since. The major flaw with gun control is that it controls the people who follow the rules and control themselves. It does absolutely nothing for the control of crime. I do not believe that a handgun has any place in the house. If you feel scared in your own home, scatter some large dog shit on your front lawn and put up the beware of dog sign. You'll feel and be safer!! Rj
  3. But it does have a patch of mint growing under the seat. Rj
  4. I've heard that about him. He should try some of Jason's ointment. Rj
  5. They wouldn't be making them if people weren't lining up for them. I've read that the only vehicles that GM is making money on are the Hummers. Chrysler can't keep Hemi powered cars on the lot. Nevermind that my Guzzi engine is closer to being a Hemi engine than what they are calling "Hemi". The Americans see their car as status symbols. Bigger is better - and better still if you can tell the world that you can afford a 10mpg vehicle. Sales of Cadillac's behemoth SUV for eg. And the Hummer. Every rock/movie/sports star buys one of the two immediately on signing their first big contract. The car is a symbol of success in the US. People buy what they want (or are told they want) and vehicle manufacturers build what they can sell. Rj
  6. Vapor lock was my first thought too... Was it a real hot day? Rj
  7. Plow that furrow, Noggers, Plow It! I think we should be supporting someone's venture into unknown territory. If Noggles wants to try out an air shock, why argue?? I'd like to hear how it turns out. No need to get into partial pressures and such nonsense. Strap it on and take her for a spin! I always thought "ploughing my own furrow" was a lesbian term... perhaps you meant "pulling my goalie"? Rj
  8. I have no use for a handgun. They have only one purpose. Kill people. Home defense? I've always thought this was a ridiculous excuse to own a handgun. To be useful it needs to be loaded and dangerous at all times. How many people shoot themselves or a family member without ever taking aim at an "intruder"?? If somebody comes in unannounced, you'll grab a club of some sort long before you get your gun together. Now if you see them coming? Different scenario. Give me my 30-30 lever and my 303 and a couple buckets of ammo and ten guys with handguns ain't getting close enough to use them for a looong time. Immediate home defense is provided by big black dog. Always loaded and always on the job. Strikes far more fear into bad guy than brandishing a pistol. That doesn't mean I won't punch holes in paper with my buddy's .45 auto at the range. It just gets boring fast. Rj
  9. When a man with a pistol meets a man with a rifle, the man with the rifle wins. Rj
  10. I agree! Laguna is a horrid track for GP motorcycles. Too short and nowhere for them to stretch their legs out. I like that there is a race in the states but please have it on another track!! Rj
  11. If the fuse is physically hot (as is obvious from photo) the problem is always where the heat is. I would expect a poor contact right at the fuse holder. A poor contact has resistance. Add 20 amps of current and you have heat. There should be no resistance in a fuse or in the wire itself (OK there is but it is negligeble). This is a bad connection somewhere and I would sus the connections themselves. Going to a larger gage wire or a shorter wire will not fix the problem unless you happen to fix the poor connection when replacing the wire. Only one side of your fuse is melting - I'd start right there. Rj
  12. You guys take everything too seriously! Seattle has some ecxceptional beers. So does Oregon. My current fav beer is from Calif of all places. Just a return shot for the bad canadian beer comment! Americans are in no position to be dissing CDN beers when they're producing so much shite. And to put us below that mexican swill, well that can't go unreplied! Stay away from Kokanee and Molson's, but at least they aren't made from corn and/or rice. In a pinch I'd drink them. Bud/Coors/Miller? No thanks I'll have the water please. Rj
  13. Scura's always make me laugh. So do their owners. Speaking of - where's ole' BatsintheBelfry?? er... I wasn't really laughing at the joke, just trying to avoid that uncomfortable silence...
  14. I wasn't serious... Hell carbon fiber looks ridiculous on these fat pigs anyway. I always laugh when I see a V11 with Cf on it. Like shaving a couple pounds off a Mack truck. Rj
  15. But I digress... Back to riding in BC. Best to do the Sea to Sky/Duffy Lake during the week. Although this time of year you'll always have the Alberta Winnebagos to deal with. Construction isn't too bad right now and the road is pretty good. Traffic is moving mostly on the completed new stuff and they are busy twinning. It is only a couple of spots and you'll get through pretty quick on bikes. The Federales... yes, they may catch you. Speed traps are prevailent on our highways in the summers. Gotta collect that revenue! Watch for cars parked on the sides of the road up ahead. Also watch for the blaze orange. If your spider senses are tingling, slow it down... Try to find a "rabbit" - a bike or car who wants to go faster than you. Then just keep him in sight. When you see his brake lights hit yours. I've successfully used this early warning system many times. Meth heads?? No worse here than Seattle. How comfortable are you leaving your bike alone in Seattle? I've never heard anything particular about Quesnel being a Meth Head town though. I certainly wouldn't worry about going in to eat a meal or leaving the bikes outside the motel all night in any BC town. Disk lock on everywhere I go though. It is a great ride - enjoy our province and hospitality! cheers, Rj
  16. It's an American thing. Millions have been brainwashed by billion dollar ad campaigns into believing that semi alcoholic piss water brewed out of CORN (MGD!) is proper beer. Unfortunately we have nothing of the sort to offer them here and what we do have is just simply beyond their palates. It would seem that the masses have been convinced that only beers made from corn or some other cheap but plentiful ingredients are proper beers. They do make exceptions for beers brewed using recycled Mexican water. A wedge of lime provides a distraction from the fact that the major ingredient was once (or more) passed through a urinal. I am very happy to see that many have broken free of this deadly ignorance and allowed free thought to introduce them to real beer. Rj
  17. Bummer you couldn't afford an LCD. Maybe we could take up a collection or something. Rj
  18. Stainless? Aluminum? Wot?! No carbon fiber option? Rj
  19. Sounds like the model of relativity to me. Watch out, you're gonna be in Ratchet's bad books! Rj
  20. 6 hours of televicsed M/C racing on Sunday! Woo hoo! Just need to figure out how much beer I'll need to get through it. Kentucky Fried Kid to Podium. This is his track. He's raced it more than anyone else on the grid. Homefield advatage to Nicky. Rossi to win or place. Needs the points and knows the track better now. A hungry Rossi is hard to beat. I want to say Pedrosa for the last podium spot (cause I like how the kid rides!) but I think it will be Melandri. Rj
  21. Macio - I like your Quota! I hadn't seen one lower with street wheels and tires. Is this a conversion? I liked the Quota when they came out but were too high and heavy... cheers, Rj
  22. No, not your posts... just the GW thread. That is an argument fuelled by speculation on both sides. It's a waste of brain energy. I've said before that I enjoy MOST of your posts. I'll trust your math, Dave might want to double check it though I figure this is one of those things that has potential upsides, fairly inexpensive, and no real downside. Greg and Pete know far more about these machines than I do and if they both are in agreement, that's all I need. Rj
  23. MBD, like madness, is a snowballing syndrome. The step to a second bike is scary. Twice as much money, twice as much time, twice as much space etc. But when you move to a third bike, now it is only 50% more, the fourth is only 30% more, the fifth a mere 25% more. Soon it really makes little difference if you bring that next wreck home or not - so you do. Rj
