A project years in the making...finally tackled it...but not happy with results. Having finally decided to tackle the TPS setting, despite having no issues, I figured it was time to do the 1 thing I have never done on the Tune up list, after having done absolutely everything else on the list with meticulous attention. I connected the new Casper cable (so that's how it works...aha!), connected the voltmeter, disconnected throttle linkage and see the TPS is registering 0.350mv...well, that's supposed to be .157...hhm, I wonder why the bike runs well despite that, I ponder. Thinking, well surely it will run even better when I set it properly! Premature delusions of grandeur dancing in my head! Ok, remove the old TPS, look inside, pretty oxidized with some crud, so I clean it out thoroughly, re- connect the TPS, back out the idle screws on both sides so they are not touching the cams, snap the RH throttle several times until it's well and truly seated and get it set on the nose at 0.157mv, and snugged in tight. All good, put it at full throttle still disconnected from the linkage, and it reads 4.70...sounds like I'm in the right range. Ok, mission accomplished on the TPS. Connect it all back up again, remove and clean air screws, blow some throttle body cleaner into the TB's, then set the air screws 1 full turn out each, reconnect linkage, get idle screws touching, bike idling like crap, and tons of flat spots and coughing. Put a fresh set of plugs in just for fun also. Cranked it up, idling low, and start adjusting as per the write up here. Played with it a few more times, getting it nicely balanced with the Carbtune, idling beautifully, air screws 1 full rotation turned out, and I still have a flat spot/cough at low rpm's (1.5K to 3k RPMs') that was NEVER there before. Disconnected everything again, and go thru each step methodically, recheck TPS with linkage and idle screws backed out, and still seeing 0.157 closed and 4.70 at WOT, hook it all up again, but no change in behavior. I'm thinking do I have something clogging up fuel lines or something so I take it for a short ride, but not at all happy with the flat spot/cough. So...decided to buy a new TPS as recommended by Docc...came in a few days, installed it today, and noticeably smoother and I can see it moving in increments of 0.01 easily as I gently tap...so here we go again, set to .157mv and full closure with linkage and idle screws backed out...and 4.70 at WOT. Figure it will run better, and it does...but bugger all, it still has a cough. How is it possible that I could have had NO flat spot or cough ever in the prior years of running, with a TPS obviously set at the wrong point, and now with every thing exactly on spec (or obviously I'm overlooking something), I have it idling perfectly, Carbtuned and balanced to perfection at idle and 3K rpm's and I still have a flat spot/cough. I even went around and snugged up all the new rubber intake boots 3 clamps each side, snugged up exhaust headers (no movement), connector pipes (2 each side). It runs beautifully on the highway, but now, every time I come to a stop I know it's going to stumble when I take off again...until I get above 3 k RPM's again. I know it's not relays, since I had no issues before, no exhaust leaks, fresh rubber, valves set, fresh plugs...WTF? and just for fun I went and put a fresh full tank of new gas in it...no change. Back to the drawing board here...surely I'm missing a step somewhere...

A nice day of riding both the V11 and the 2V Norge...perfect weather to ride, nice and cool. Nice to be able to toggle between the bikes...each a great riding experience.
-
A 2V Sport or Norge is a fine stable mate for a V11…along with a Griso! They are all different enough to provide a unique riding experience! Get them!! I love the trio combo…but ultimately I think it depends more on if you are planning short to medium rides vs…long ones, based on ergonomics.

Always on the calendar for me...see you there again this year Leroy! 630 miles door to door...maybe I should do it on the Scura this year...but the Norge is so much easier for carrying camping gear and the long distances.

I don’t recall seeing this item for sale last year when we visited the distillery picking up several bottles of heart warming liquid!! That will have to be corrected with a return visit!

The World's Quickest Cars
PJPR01 replied to Joe's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Just thinking how fun it is to ride 100 mph on a bike, and then imagine how fast 200 mph feels on a Moto GP bike and then another 100 mph on top of that - that's truly insane - must be a hell of an adrenaline rush! The Bugatti is just an amazing piece of art...couldn't agree more! I wonder what the highest mileage Bugatti in the world has...probably not more than a few thousand miles I should imagine...it's difficult to add the miles when you're just doing Sunday drives around Monaco or Dubai! -
I have found using a speed bleeder on my Norge works wonders...much easier to use, it's like having a 3rd hand when bleeding. Keep filling the reservoir, pump gently a few times, watch the fluid/bubbles move thru until all the bubbles are gone, and you're done!

Tire pressures? Cold tires due to temps dropping?

Now this is too funny! Absolutely mimics some of my recent activities! I have now added not only US Ebay, but also Canada Ebay to my recent list of providers (for the Griso I might add, but anyway). Both MG and Harpers have been great to work with...sometimes there are lags in getting items shipped due to worldwide supply chain issues, but they eventually show up. I was pleasantly surprised however the other day to get a couple of items within a day or two of having placed the order... Stein-Dinse has the most amazing shipping speed of any vendor, honestly they must have their own planes with door to door delivery service...it's that fast!

Plus one here...excellent news.

Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas - 2022 edition - Repository -
PJPR01 replied to p6x's topic in Meetings, Clubs & Events
Hello @p6x…still out there! All Ok? Today I completed the required 25 stops to earn the patch for the 2022 tour! It’s been spectacular riding weather these last two weeks so I was able to get a little time off work and knock off many stops! I had previously covered Navasota (with you as well), Texas Sidecar in Donie (I missed getting Lone Star rider at that event!!), Camp Hearne, Lufkin, Terrell, Paris (3 stops), Gladewater (3 stops) and in the last 2 weekends covered Cuero, Buda (Creedmor), stop for BBQ in Lockhart with Galveston Dave, Burnet, Llano, San Saba, Brady, Mason, (Luckenbach…unofficial stop!), Center point, Bandera, Alamo BMW San Antonio, Johnson City, Texas City, Bolivar and Red Roof! What a fun tour!! Will see if I can get Beaumont next weekend! I'm not sure I'll have the time before mid November to make it down to South Padre or the valley, would like to try to get 30 stops, no way this year to get the full 50 however.- 111 replies

hi Paul...I'll take it! What other goodies have you got for the Griso...I have to get the mudder installed next weekend! Thanks again! Paul

Or keep in the tent at night when camping if you don’t want to find a nearby tree!! 😀😀

Was that because he pronounced it Puh Kahn instead of Pee Can? 😀😀 Some people mix a little pecan with mesquite…also quite tasty. BBQ is so particular…have to agree on leaving the sauce off or just using a tiny bit for a dip or two. Proper brisket, bark done right is an all day job…I appreciate the time people spend cooking it, it’s much easier just to eat it! There was no BBQ at our Texas Guzzi rally this past weekend, but we had good pasta and meat sauce! Headed to Black’s BBQ in Lockhart Texas next weekend to bag another 10 stops on the Tour of Texas…two years ago we had 10 Guzzi riders show up in Lockhart on a whim just for the BBQ!

By the way, if it hasn't already been done, cleaning out the fuel downspout is a necessity, with the bike sitting for 10 years, it's likely to have accumulated a lot of sediment or rust in the fine mesh filter...but again, not sure if you have already done that part already?
-
Sorry if this was mentioned earlier, but how old is the gas in the tank? Did you try draining it completely, and then put in fresh gas (non ethanol even better if possible). Given that the starter fluid works, but the gas doesn't leads me to believe this gas is not igniting...maybe full of water? Any chance the fuel filter is blocked somehow, the tube is clean and has been inspected?
-
Aha...that makes it crystal clear then!! Sounds like you have spark...no problem. Just out of curiosity...is the fuel injector model for the V11 the same as it is for your V7 (single TB, not double right??) If so, you could do an easy swap of one, then the other from the V11 into your V7 and see if it runs or both if your V7 has a double TB setup. Considering how reasonable non OEM injectors are on Ebay, and I know others here will not support buying non OEM injectors...but it's worth a shot. For what it's worth, I bought non OEM injectors for my Norge several years ago, and they work perfectly...no issues at all.
-
That’s going to be a wonderful trip but I think your neck may protest after the first few hours…unless the riding position is more upright? Does the bike have clipons or a more upright setup? if you can swing it, try to get in as much of Colorado as you can off the interstate, the roads are much more fun than I-70 although that is a scenic ride as far as interstates go! Taking any spare valve cover gaskets, tire plug kit or air compressor just in case? Fresh set of plugs installed before leaving?
-
How long does it run after you spray starter fluid? You can take it for a drive and it will not die? If it will run forever and idle (with a fan blowing on it to not overheat the bike sitting and idling for 10-15 minutes), then you're getting spark, fuel delivered, so you're saying the problem is only in the ignition phase, i.e. getting it started. I assume you haven't hooked up Guzzidiag yet to it to see if there are any other faults being thrown? That has to mean that injectors are working, plugs/wires are working since you're burning off the starter fluid almost instantaneously, if idling decently, TPS is OK enough to let it run etc. The "choke" isn't really a choke per se...but you've figured that out now. Bugger...what else could contribute to the lack of starting? I take it the process for trying to start with starter fluid vs. standard process involves the same parameters, side stand up or down, clutch lever in or out...all the same?

All of this beautification…May have to rename this event the Concours d’Elegance de Tellico! One day hope to get there!!

2002 Moto Guzzi Scura FB Marketplace $9000
PJPR01 replied to obliviousmonkey's topic in Personal Ads
Wow...that's quite a markup...Moto flipping at its best! -
Another plus for these, I've recently also installed them on my V11 Scura...very nice quality. Docc will be pleased too since they are made in Tennessee!
-
The perfect route for a Guzzi to run...not jealous one bit...nope, not one bit at all! Bellissimo giro!

Is it possible you don't have original injectors and the prior owner had replaced them. New ones are not expensive, and new non OEM after market ones are available on Ebay for very reasonable prices if buying OEM is not desired.
