My starter is getting intermittent. I can hear the relays click under the seat and hear some click from the main solenoid on the starter itself, but no rotation. Usually catches after a few tries. Did all of the stuff listed above already also. Guess it's time for a new starter.

Gratuitous Pics of Girls + Guzzi

Pretty nice for an old gal. The bike. I mean the bike. -

It's not just a Guzzi problem.

The 850 wasn't at the Long Beach IMS this past weekend. Not enough time to ship from EICMA according to the Guzzi guy. Did have the 3 new V7's.

Mike's a good guy, he will take care of the LeMans !

I've looked at that parts diagram picture 1000 times. I still can't tell from the pix which end goes where. I can tell you that from the state of the hose that blew off originally, I'm pretty sure it had been there unmolested since 2002. On that hose, the short 90 bend was on the motor. That said, I can see how mounting it the other way would keep the hose closer to the frame. But my bike is an external fuel pump model, and to me it looked like the hose needed to run along the engine until the filter was cleared, then go up. Maybe on internal pump bikes it goes the other way.

It's much easier if you remove one of the coils. I removed the right coil and then had good access. It doesn't really matter which way the hose goes. But the way I described matched my old one and keeps the hose more out of the way from other stuff under there.

Coincidentally, I just received the breather hose I ordered more than a month ago today. My heater hose substitute has worked just fine in the interim and nearly 1000 miles. Here's a pix of it. The right hand side (short sharp 90 degree bend) goes to the motor. The left side (longer 60 degree bend) goes to the frame.
-
One end has a 90 degree bend and the other end is a little less than 90. The 90 bend goes to the engine. The more sloping end goes to the frame.

The red "handles" in front mount the headlight nacelle. I think they are trying to steal sales from the Ducati Scrambler series. Good place to steal from. I like it, but it wouldn't find a place in my fleet.

Bike Palace is a large bicycle shop. I didn't ask any prices on the other bikes.

So, here's how I came to be at Century Motorcycles. Some of you may remember a for sale post on a Magni fairing, by Shinji. So, Shinji was the owner of the V11 Sport shown above and the Honda GB500 shown earlier. For whatever reason, he had to leave the country and return to Japan. He didn't want to box and ship the fairing. My daughters live in Long Beach, so OK I'll just pick the fairing up if it can be left somewhere. He was apparently a regular customer of Tim's so he left the fairing in a box at Century Moto. He also sold (or left, not sure which) his 2 bikes there. Tim says that Shinji rode both bikes to his shop. But when we tried to start the V11, of course we got a click, but not much else. I suggested going under the seat for a quick relay wiggle, hence the pix. Didn't help, relays would click, but no joy from the solenoid. Tim, knowing I have a Guzzi interest offered the bike for sale to me. He started at $2500. As I was leaving, he was down to $2000. Normally, I couldn't pass up a deal like that, but I'm a bit in the doghouse on the bike purchasing front anyhow. It's a bit ratty, but would probably clean up nicely.

So, I happened to visit Century Motorcycles in San Pedro, CA. They claim to be the oldest continually operating motorcycle shop in the country. It is now run by 3rd generation in the family, Tim Rutherford. Definitely one of the last "old time" motorcycle shops. Are the clean, well lit motorcycle Wally Worlds better than the old school? Speaking of gas tanks, is there any way to fully shut off the manual petcock. Mine slow drips no matter how hard I twist it shut. Rebuildable ?
-
Good. I hate being different.
-
Just curious to compare. On my bike (02 Scura), the tank vents are not hose bibs, but rather seem to be brake bleeder nipples threaded into the tank. Is that what others have?

I would appear that bearing 26 and 36 are somewhat redundant. Bearing 12, 30 and 26 bear the case to the axle. 26 and 36 bear the crown gear to the axle and case. I think the issue is that the case DOES move relative to the axle, it does that when the suspension goes up and down and case pivots relative to the arm.

Slow boat from Italy. Got a breather hose on the same boat. (4 wks since order and counting)
