Scud, nice results. Can I blame you when my wife sees the bill for the ultrasonic cleaner? Oh, wait, I got it. "Honey, I noticed that your jewelry was looking dirty." Tom M, wire brush is so old school. Plus, like the corrosive Simple Green, you removed 3 grams of alu material from the top of your piston, affecting the compression ratio by 0.00084% and changing the flow dynamics in the squish band.
-
Apparently Jet cannot get his center plug out. Gonna try mine, because it looks like a nice location for a mount.
-
I figure if the squish band is clean, that's good enough. That's where the crud could start detonation.
-
Where do you get an ultrasonic cleaner big enough for a piston from a twin? I've only seen little jewelry ones.
-
I've done a couple of BMW Airheads with the pistons face down overnight in the green Simple Green. Yes, it does "corrode" the aluminum, there will be a light patina on the piston where bare metal was exposed. It cleans right up and 60K miles later the piston is no worse for it. No pits, no erosion, no dimension changes etc. No, I wouldn't use it on a nice shiny bare aluminum skinned airplane. That would be bad. Very bad. Hugely bad.

Finally got my new Icon Airframe Pro helmet. Absolutely solves my problem with the helmet interfering with the back of my neck in the happy Scura pose. The cutout at the back is large and the head maneuverability is excellent. The helmet fits my huge cinder block head well. I haven't ridden with anything but a modular lately, so the full face is a bit of a squeeze to get my head into. Once there, very comfortable except for the "tight" cheek pads which again is probably more of an issue with my cinder block with chipmunk cheeks. Unfortunately, Icon doesn't have thinner cheek pads than the ones provided in this size. Maybe some make shift re-upholstery is in order. Vision is outstanding as is ventilation. Not as quiet as my C3 Pro, but I wouldn't call it noisy, just that the C3 sets a high bar for quietness. Fabulous helmet, especially for the price.

Scud, I'm thinking you are the kind of person who hates to put a dirty part back on a bike. I was shocked by how well the simple green worked when someone told me about it. I had used Berryman Chem-Tool soak before with less than satisfying results. I decided afterwards that simple green is neither simple nor green ! No more pouring that down the drain, it goes to the household waste collection now.

As a short timer on Guzzi's I'm no authority. But on Airhead Beemers, you wanted the wheel to fall to the side "gently". If the wheel didn't fall, that was too tight, and it would prevent a normal amount of self centering and exacerbate the "gummy cow" problem they had. If it just flopped over, that was too loose and the bearings could vibrate in the race and cause divots, which also messed up the handling. BTW, any steering dampers have to be dis-connected for this test.

Many thanks stewgnu ! I'm looking for something I can bungee a bag of clothes to for the occasional rally. I figure with only 4 bolts on the hangers, I'll leave it off most of the time and just bolt it up when I need it.
-
Leave the rings on. Get a small bowl. Turn the piston top down in the bowl and pour in some un-diluted simple green just up to the rings. Let it sit overnight. The carbon will brush off with a toothbrush in the morning. Flush thoroughly around and under the rings. Re-install.

OK, OK, we've established that the un-obtanium rack is prettier than this one. Doesn't do me any good if I can't get one. So - Can anyone answer the original question?
-
Hi, I'm considering purchasing and installing this rear rack on my Scura. http://www.harpermoto.com/rear-rack-moto-guzzi-v11-sport-naked-le-mans-from-01-cafe-sport-ballabio-scura-coppa-italia.html If anyone is familiar with this, where are the mounting points? Is it only the 4 bolts on the muffler/pillion peg hanger? Or is there a mounting point at the rear of the bike? TIA.

BMW Airhead guys live and die by Hylomar. Personally, I prefer Yamabond #4, I think it works better on Alu than Hylomar. Available from your local Yami dealer.

Stuff the case hole with paper towels before trying to place the circlip on the piston. DAMHIK. I have the ring compressor pictured and I mount the piston first, then slide the cylinder over the studs and piston. I don't use a hammer, a little oil on the rings will let it slide on nice and easy. Key is to keep the cylinder and piston aligned while mating.

Somebody else frequents Rare Sportbikes for Sale. Gotten me in trouble more than once. Just recently there was this Scura . . . -
Errr... I've never seen "different" size grips. Yes, usually it is much more of a stretch to put the right on then the left, but borrow your wife's hair spray and go to it.

bbolesaz here, yes please. I assume gaskets available from my local dealer?

Pete and Scud, yes please on the plate. Post up when available !

8mm 6061 plate is easy find on ebay. Have to wait for shipping from China though.

Thought about this a little more and realized that the problem is that the tank head pressure would probably screw with the fuel regulator. I assume the return line is vented to the air gap in the tank which would avoid having the head pressure change with fuel level. And if that is true, the return line cannot source fuel anyhow.

Thank you so much !!

Yam350 many thanks. That bag sits more forward than I would have thought. Does it have more than one location for the ring, i.e. can you remove the ring from the bag and move it to another set of screw holes?
-
For external pump systems, why wouldn't the return be T-ed into the line between the tank and pump? Does the electric petcock have a 1-way valve?
-
Yam350, I looked up the Givi Xstream 15L bag. Is the part number for yours XS307?
