Yam350, I would love to see pix. My eyeballing let me to conclude that the tankbag would be too far back on the tank and would interfere with my (admittedly too large) belly. BTW, also on the same thread - I mocked up some magnets and some steel under the carbon fiber tank pad piece. The magnets didn't work at all because the N-S was on the edge vs. the flat. So the magnets in the tankbag couldn't align. Then I tried the steel plate. The tankbag would hold on, but not at speed and not with much load. So, experiment failed. The tankbag is an Oxford M1R Micro in Black. Really nice bag if I owned a bike with a metal tank. I'll give it to someone if you pay for flat rate shipping.

Collector insurance is cheaper, but the reason they are cheaper is there is an assumption that the bike is not a rider. The policies usually have a mileage limit or a clause that states that the bike is only to be ridden to / from a display event. That display event phrase has a wide legal berth. Some people simply carry around a list of bike shows across the country and if they have an accident, report that they were on the way or back from an event. There's no requirement that you cannot go to a bike show in LA by way of NYC.

Yep, that's it. Nice map site BTW !

Jet ski'ers use ABS repair kits when they ding the hull. Go to a jet ski shop and get one of the kits. It will include woven fiberglass mat and the right epoxy for ABS and instructions.

I believe this road is in Italy, Passo della Spina. Can anyone point it out on a map? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGOmGnEwWls

My $ is still on a timing problem. As someone in the computer chip industry, I wouldn't rule out that the ECU itself has a failure. Anyway to do an ECU swap with someone?
-
Don't understand the 6V thing either. It's my understanding that while the injector is never continuously opened, still at WOT, the injector is generally set up to be at 80% duty cycle. I assume that the factory didn't want a ham fisted service tech to apply a 12V ohm meter and leave it there overnight. Not an issue these days as most ohm meters are way less than 12V, usually the same as the battery in it, either 9V or 3V (2-AA cells).
-
12V won't hurt the injector. The ECU signal is 12V.

Again, newbie thinking out loud - But would the Guzzi Diag software shed any light on the status of the various sensors? Fault codes? Or am I expecting too much from early 2000 ECU's.
-
Backfire always makes me think timing issue. Do V11's have a peephole to put a timing light on the flywheel? That timing sensor should be a hall sensor and a resistance measure may not mean much.

Good choice. That Garmin unit looks like a good one. I may have to trade in my Spot Gen 1. I occasionally get my F800GS out in the woods. Haven't been off road riding as much lately as I added a Polaris RZR to the garage so La Reina can come along.

Timing sensor? Disconnected?

BTW, I've restored some old Honda Goldwings and Vintage Connections is the shizz for working on old Japanese electricals.

FAA also doesn't allow an unsupported crimp. A crimp will vibrate and break just like a solder joint if unsupported. Like what most folks would do with butt crimps to splice 2 harnesses together. Truth is that a bike is unlikely to vibrate enough to bust either joint. I used to design oil patch equipment way back when. Our boss made us buy these connectors that were used on the 747 because by golly they were the best and most expensive connectors available. Of course he neglected to realize that on a 747, the connectors are only removed and re-connected a couple of times in the life of the aircraft. In a swamp in Indonesia, being re-connected several times a day, they went to shit in no time. Aircraft doesn't mean good ! I like solder joints with heat shrink over them because it is less weight and BULK than butt crimps, therefore easier to bundle up into a harness where everything is supported against vibration.

I've had a spot almost as soon as they came out. We had 2 incidents happen to solo off road bikers here in Zonie land. One guy went down hard and got a concussion. He could ride, but his bell was so rung, he had no idea where he was. He rode around sporadically in circles for nearly 2 days before finally dying. He was within a couple of miles of the I-17 freeway and Carefree Hwy the entire time and reports said his tire tracks were within 1/4 mile of the freeway at one point. Another guy broke his leg just above the ankle about 30 miles out into the desert. He couldn't ride or walk out and didn't bring water with him and was gone within a few days.

I looked at the Ghezzi-Brian website for more into. What a worthless fountain of dis-information. So, may i ask - I assume the speed is digital in the LCD desplay? Do they provide the speed sensor or is that purchased seperatly from somewhere else? It mentions fuel level, I assume that is actually the fuel light? It looks like they gave you a stock dash harness that you have to connect to the digital dash, yes? Can't help on the harness Q, I'm a noob here. My only $0.02 would be to solder all of the connections, no crimps.

Saw this on Rare Sport Bikes for Sale (dangerous site !!). Anybody here? http://raresportbikesforsale.com/alternative-transport-1983-moto-guzzi-lemans-iii/

Curiosity ?. V11 LeMans Long Distance Tire choice?

You live in Oklahoma and you wonder why the center of your tire wears down? -
Looks like you are riding solo, hope you are carrying a Spot.

Check with MotoDiscovery.com. They set up a custom off road tour for our club in the Sierra Madre Oriental south of Monterrey. You need 8-10 folks to do a custom tour. Personally I'd love to do a mostly dirt tour of the Baja Missions roads. I've been up and down the Baja on the paved roads several times. Be sure to do the Copper Canyon before it all gets paved over.

My other main ride is a BMW K1600GTL, a bike with a lot of mass, minimal engine braking and a slipper clutch to boot. The first time I rolled off of the freeway on the Scura, I just about pitched myself over the handlebars. Needless to say, I had to drastically alter my downshift points. That said, I've never had the engine stall or even sputter on a less than graceful decel. Does it have a modified ECU or Power Commander? Maybe a bad timing map?
-
Many thanks ! I'll have to give that a try.

I think Owen's issue is that he is downshifting when this happens. So pull the clutch in, pop it down a gear, the engine stalls abruptly and then dump the clutch. Probably a combo of being in a lower gear than appropriate and too sudden clutch release or maybe a worn and grabby clutch also. Maybe carrying a little more throttle during the downshift would help keep the motor turning. You could test the situation by pulling the clutch and chopping the throttle, but then leaving the gearshift alone. That might help diagnose the engine stall.
