  1. I have only missed one of these over the 10 years. I can't believe I didn't go to the first one, my cousin called me from the show and I was like, meh... Needless to say I haven't missed one since.
  2. I have a question, when you plastigage the big ends do you reuse the conrod nuts? On some bikes this is a no-no. Of course those are the ones with the expensive nuts.
  3. Connectors were loose. I expanded the connector tips which helped and then used heat shrink to secure them. Started up the bike and it's charging. Was tempted to take a test ride but it's dark, 29˚ and I thought better.
  4. Hey, there's no pushrod tunnels in the barrel!
  5. Dunno but if I were to guess: https://www.electrosport.com/collections/regulator-rectifiers/products/esr515-regulator-rectifier-ducati-1-phase-charge-light-output
  6. Which one is that? (OEM?) https://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20451&p=235432
  7. Instead of trying to figure out the regulator options I just got a lightly used one from @czakky When this one wears out I'll think about other choices. I have too many other projects and I can't have the Greenie down if the weather turns nice.
  8. I think earlier in this thread they said the 6 speed clutch was no longer available.
  9. Just about every engine faces the same issue, having to put the valve somewhere in the port. At some point in a traditional valve train that valve is going to bisect the port. Given that working on the Guzzis you're starting with anything but a clean slate you are limited. You can either throw a lot of money at the head or you can enjoy it for what it is.
  10. I don't think Pete sells them anymore.
  11. So with a parallel twin the pistons are typically symmetrical... Good indication there is a problem when they aren't level.
  12. I still haven't found this reference wire. Which one is it coming into the regulator? When you say downstream of the headlight relay, where exactly can you check it? At the headlight?
  13. I'll provide a list of where to see the films in a bit. We compile it and send it out.
  14. We just held our 6th Annual Festival this weekend. We've sold out six straight years at the historical Hollywood theater (384 seats). We also hold the beer sales record at the theater (probably pizza too!). In addition we have raised about $70k in the six years for safety equipment at Portland International Raceway for the motorcyclists who race there. It's a fun event to host as the motorcycle community is very supportive and eager to get together in the winter to see their friends. Here's a short video from my buddy showing a little what it's like.
  15. It’s actually quite easy to change the pickup location on a 72. Grub screw in the front hole and some light grinding to the windage spur. Look at the notch at the bottom of the crankcase. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I have a saying, education is expensive. I’m getting educated! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I have heard stories of that same seal splitting even when installed correctly. I was on borrowed time without knowing the oil pressure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. The seal between the pump and timing cover fell off when I was refitting the cover. It fell into my oil pan and I never knew it. Until it was too late. Failure had nothing to do with the rods. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. There were a bad batch of rods in 1974, I think. You also have to keep in mind that Commandos get ridden way more than Triumphs or BSAs so they are going to have more reported issues. Bikes don’t break if they don’t get ridden. I’d always been against an oil pressure gauge but due to the recent expensive lesson I’ve changed my mind...
  20. Do you mean the crankcase or the con rod? The answer is no. I was flying down the freeway when it went bang. Eerily it was rush hour and that freeway is always packed, for some miraculous reason I was all alone when it happened. I safely got to the side of the road and the freeway filled back up again.
  21. I think I know where the oil leak is coming from...
  22. Yes, plan is to see if the hole can be repaired so I can save the original engine. I have plenty of spare crankcases if I need a different set.
  23. It's going back to full boy racer spec this time. I mean after I sort out the engine thing...
