  1. The rod didn't fail, the lack of oil caused a seize and then it cascaded from there. The stock rods are actually quite stout.
  2. I'm finally getting around to my Norton. There was a bit of an "incident" a couple years ago so I parked it and have been enjoying the Guzzis in the meantime. Let start out. Oh, and if you're squeamish, don't scroll down more... This fell out. It's a piece of the connecting rod. See where we are going? Getting the patient prepped. Upon further exam we may have a small problem... I have a replacement engine I've been working on. But at some point I'll try to rescue this one. Of course the side with the hole has the serial number on it. If you want to follow along you can here: https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/heart-transplant.25880/
  3. There are two things the Italians lie about... horsepower and weight. Published numbers from the factory for either should be first laughed at and second ignored.
  4. Heck, I'll send you some if you want just a couple. I bought a whole set at one time.
  5. Dave was out here in Oregon for a bit a year or two ago, I guess it sounds like he's back in Ohio? I literally didn't make one Guzzi event last year. How sad is that?
  6. It's a shame all the Moto International original owners and staff have retired, and MI itself then shuttered after the new owners didn't maintain the same customer service and passion. Or they actually looked at the books and decided they couldn’t make it work.
  7. I would not use actual weatherpack connectors. They are way too bulky. http://www.cycleterminal.com/amphenol-at-dt-connectors.html
  8. What type of plier / tool is used to crimp these terminals ? https://www.amazon.com/IWISS-Weather-Pack-Terminal-Crimping/dp/B0732W6HQR/ref=sr_1_57?ie=UTF8&qid=1546212291&sr=8-57&keywords=crimper+terminal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07476C1LD/ref=psdc_553392_t1_B0732W6HQR
  9. You are definitely in the wrong place as encouraging collection expansion is a competitive sport here.
  10. NADA is particularly horrible about pricing. I’d insist on comp values and an appraisal and not go off a book. And insist on an estimate. Remember Progressive isn’t there to help you. More importantly how are you? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  11. I can't. Won't clear the fairing. https://www.amazon.com/Oumurs-Motorcycle-Cylinder-Reservoir-Universal/dp/B0799JT9D5/ref=pd_sbs_263_7?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0799JT9D5&pd_rd_r=12d3b707-066c-11e9-a7c6-2fa816d9f586&pd_rd_w=WvrAQ&pd_rd_wg=JvKkU&pf_rd_p=7d5d9c3c-5e01-44ac-97fd-261afd40b865&pf_rd_r=5NC91F6BX5K7WY9P2RZ7&psc=1&refRID=5NC91F6BX5K7WY9P2RZ7
  12. Not possible to have it too clean. But one particle in the wrong place can be deadly. I'd take off the oil cooler and clean the crap out of it. Anywhere that oil has been should be suspect.
  13. The only reason to use carbs on a bike build is for the retro look.
  14. It depends on if you think the added complexity is worth the benefits. I think using a MOSFET regulator makes sense, clear benefits for the same price as a the SCR ones.
  15. http://www.vintageconnections.com/Products/Detail/151?fbclid=IwAR14g6bIYTXMPj2ZtP4rxBwrKcYqPBIRg8_WoVFkWkr_7oLlRCH-86Zw_xc This guy I know now has the plugs available for the Shindengen type regulators.
  16. Regulators, due to the fact that they work by generating heat are going to fail at some point. So you either treat them as a wear item and replace them with a plug and play option or you replace it with a MOSFET which should last longer, although you may have wiring and mounting issues. Just a case of calculating out the cost/effort/miles ratio for yourself.
  17. You may have much better luck on Wild Goose.
  18. Look very carefully at the pictures. I swear it seems smashed. There are certainly some dents.
  19. I had an experience last month on the interstate that has me agreeing. Heavy traffic, changing lanes to pass at 80 mph, car came into my lane and hit the brakes. A too quick grab of the brake locked up the front tire long enough for a loud screech. Scary but reassuring. how's the foot Dave? Here is the thing, better brakes aren't just about more power. Better brakes can give you more control as well. A stiffer, firmer brake lever that gives you better control of how much brake you apply as well as offering more braking power can be a good thing. On a side note, do you brake with one, two, three, or four, fingers? Four. I find l have less control with two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Purely wishful thinking. Too much work to make it happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. That's why I have an LED bulb in my 850T, the poor alternator barely puts out enough to keep the bike running with the light off!
