  1. You actually don’t want negative pressure because of that. Ideally you shoot for neutral pressure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Excellent vid and explanation. The Norton doesn't lend itself well to crankcase venting because it's a close-case dry sump. Is yours a Colorado Norton Works reed, or something you made yourself? (I have a '71 Fastback in the works, apart and researching) The Guzzi has a lot of places to put a vent up high where oil can separate before it reaches the vent- even the stock place isn't bad, but the limitations are obvious. A hosed reed like yours in the distributor hole or I think at the top of the timing chest would be great. Unfortunately a ton of pictures on how to do this on a Norton are locked up on Photobucket (may they rest in hell). I haven't dug into the Guzzi breathing yet but it's been well beat to death on the Norton. For the 71 if you don't have the frame crosstube interference you should use the Comstock sump breather. My brother has it on a 73 850 and it works great. On my 72 for one year only there is a stock breather off the back of the crankcase which makes an ideal location for a reed valve. I'm using the "XS650 Reed Valve" which never came off a XS650, rather is sold by XS650 Mike.
  3. You can see the effect of the reed valve on my Norton. On this model there is a vent off the back of the crankcase, then a very short hose, reed valve and then a long hose back to the oil tank. I drilled a small hole next to the reed to allow any oil that gets stuck up past the reed valve to drain back into the crankcase when it wasn't running. The hole is too small to affect the functioning of the reed valve. If you watch carefully you can see the pulses as the oil is pushed up past the reed. Then as the pressure drops the oil doesn't move as much. The Guzzi is definitely different but Ducatis and BMWs have run reeds so there must be some gains on V or opposed twin.
  4. As brillant as Phil Irving was he didn't have access to some of the modern instrumentation we do now. If so I'm sure he would have loved to play around with neutral crankcase pressure. For a racing engine you might be able to squeak out a smidge more power if you put a reed valve close to the crankcase. But if it's working to your satisfaction you probably shouldn't change a thing. The Guzzi configuration is less susceptible to over-pressurization than something like a single or a parallel twin. Those are just giant pumps.
  5. No reed valve. The high volume of the breather takes care of crankcase pressure That just helps the pressure out but you don't have anything keeping it from sucking back in.
  6. No reed valve in your setup to help depressurize the crankcase? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. How much are the wheels worth?
  8. To confirm you had loosened the TPS to test it? It’s very sensitive when you retighten it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. It would be interesting to see if these would work. About the same vintage. https://store.bevelheaven.com/Carb-Fuel-Related-etc/Electric-Fuel-Pump-Monster-SuperSport-ST-Superbike-etc/ https://store.bevelheaven.com/Carb-Fuel-Related-etc/Electric-Fuel-Pump-851-888-907ie/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Wheels are heavy. Plus you don't want them banged up so packaging is important. If the wheels are only worth $200 then I can see the consternation. If they are $2000 it's probably worth it.
  11. Making a drink is always the answer. What's the question?
  12. Normally I wouldn't consider venting the headlight but in your case... Why on high so much?
  13. The most likely suspect for anything leaking is too much pressure inside, failed seals or cracks. You can also have loose screws but liquid gaskets rarely fail.
  14. What is that black bar coming from the master cylinder?
  15. Chuck might chime in on this but I believe to hit a tighter tolerance on the angle of a spring is probably a matter of making a crapload of springs and throwing away those out of spec. You can imagine what that does to the cost. Or they have a crappy machine or the have a decent machine and don’t know how to use it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Yes, checked, clear. You have mail:) Excellent, but if I would do that, I would: - Weld the crack as well - Install the transmission bracket as well, but that is rather intrusive as my early black frame does not have the connecting plate, I would have to get that made/welded to the frame as well. For now that is not an option in the timeframe. Depending on the price, Rolf's transmission change-out can be. How about stop leak fluids? Any experience or do/don'ts? I believe stop leak additives are meant to swell rubber seals not gaskets. If you're just looking at a temporary fix and possibly a replacement then it can't hurt but don't be surprised if it doesn't work.
  17. The water-cooled Thruxton is a decent piece of kit. It's a little bit lighter and has more horses than the V11 so I'd expect it to do a good job. It is almost 20 years newer so there's that. Too be honest I wasn't giving the older Thruxton all the beans.
  18. Um, who wouldn’t? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I can’t see the tach but since he got it up to 90 I’m assuming he found the cam. The Thruxton just couldn’t keep up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I’ve ridden his Thruxton before. It’s narrower, feels lighter although it’s not by much. The brake doesn’t compare to the massive brakes on the V11. Handling is not bad (I went from a 2009 Bonneville to the V11 so have a good reference). The Thruxton handlebars are way shorter and the rearsets are actually further back (tank is a bit shorter). And you sit higher. Engine-wise the Thruxton is really smooth up to about 5k, then gets buzzy. And it really doesn’t feel faster the higher you rev it. My V11 always has a little vibration but I’m use to it. But from 5-8k the V11 is a hoot. What else can I tell you? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. To drag up this old thread and to confirm the flow:
  22. Any idea of how they "opened" up the exhaust?
  23. Nothing like someone's first ride on a V11 Sport!
  24. You don't think they could wash it before taking pictures?
  25. Any chance you have pictures or even video of the exhaust?
