He gets criticized for some designs... but he also gave Ducati the MH900E, the Sport Classics (including the gorgeous Paul Smart version) and the Hypermotard. So one decent bike (PS) and the others are shit. The MH? The swingarm us fascinating but who doesn’t want to vomit at the fake Bevel sump hanging off the front?

  14. Is this issue isolated to the V11s? Has anyone looked inside a later six-speed box and see if it’s the same? Looking at where th springs are breaking seems to confirm the incorrect boss/spring relationship. In the examples provided have you confirmed the boss or spring size? Fixing a problem sometimes requires looking beyond the parts in your hand.

  17. See? That's what I'm thinking. Something to take down the rough, dusty backroad shortcuts that I don't want to subject my Sport to. As pretty as the show bike is (to me), I would still likely opt for a satin Tenni green and all else matte black. How 'bout it, Swooshdave, wanna do a visual mock-up? Don't have enough time to take off the stripes right now. Maybe later.

Obviously a typo or bad translation but we know it can't have 2 AND 5 cylinders. So it's either valves or speeds. Or it could all be wrong.

  21. That helps but you also need to know what material and tempering you want. One of the things you can calculate on a torsion spring is music wire.. that's what Scud is looking at.   23. Either there is a quality issue, a design issue or both. For a 15+ year old motorcycle sometimes it's easier to re-engineer (which typically means over-engineering) a solution.
  24. In this thread alone, there are pictures of the spring breaking in different places. That hints at a metallurgy/heat treat problem to me. A simple spring like this should be able to be wound from music wire, and be bullet proof, I would think. There is actually only one picture of a broken spring in this thread that I can find. It's good to gather the data on where the spring is breaking (if more than one location) before solutioning.
