  1. Re the pullers, I've never actually used a blind puller, but I do have one old HUGE OTC Silver Slapper slide hammer puller with a variety of good quality arms and attachments, if I can get that thing into position with good purchase on the material; I'm confident I can pull anything out,,, now damage free without carnage,,, not so sure about that, ;~) lol. Re the grease nipple on the U-Joints, I've never done it but I've read lots of horror stories. Fwiw, I just finished servicing my tractor, part of that job included greasing the U-Joints on the PTO shaft, 2 of the grease nipples I was able to get with a straight tip on the grease gun, but there were 2 others, absolutely no way. Thankfully quite a while ago I had purchased 2 different 90 degree angle tips for my grease guns, the first one I tried didn't work, but the 2nd one (designed to slide in sideways in a slot), if I held it just right, managed to work and get grease into the joint. It sounds like you may have a tough time getting a straight shot at this hidden nipple on the U-Joint on the driveshaft, you may want to pick a 90 degree fitting or something similar to give you a better chance at it. Good Luck Kelly
  2. I've picked up a blind bearing puller kit to hopefully aid in the event that I ever have to pull the wheel bearings from one of my guzzi wheels. I've never actually pulled a bearing from one of these wheels, but after extensive reading on the subject, one caution that I've read numerous times in order to prevent permanent damage to the wheel hub if the job doesn't go easily; is to preheat the hub area of the wheel, then apply cold rapidly to the bearing/race with something like computer Dust Off spray, just before you tackle it.fwiw. Following this thread with keen interest. Good Luck Kelly
  3. Wtbh, I've yet to meet a guzzi that I wanted to sell and part with. At one point I had a pinched nerve so bad in my neck I couldn't even dream of sitting on my Lemans CX100 and reaching down to the bars; but every time I walked by the bike in the garage, that bike put a smile on my face; you can't put a price on that. That was the bike that started my guzzi addiction, she'll never go anywhere. Health and pain & discomfort comes and goes, with any luck at all, time will help heal your wounds, but a bike like that may only come by once in a lifetime. To the OP, I sense your struggle with selling your bike, I've learned many times in life when faced with tough decisions, sometimes the best thing to do is absolutely nothing at all, perhaps holding onto it as living room or garage art if at all possible, is the best course of action for now. Good luck Kelly
  4. And then slaps your shoulder and calls you a dirty old man for looking down her top, js
  5. Well, I know I dodged a bullet on the bike; at that time any Ducati I had, would have to be transported 320 miles to Toronto for service, I found out through the grapevine later, the bike needed a valve job and that was why the owner was selling. I was coming off a 750 H2 triple and a KZ900, so the 860GT was underwhelming at best; straight ahead power was really the only thing on my mind at that time, it would be a few years before I came to appreciate a good corner. Kelly
  6. To the OP, "you're in trouble now" LoL Scud; What a man on a mission finding beautiful bikes,,,, Chuck called it right, sit down tightly on your wallets boys! I know the under seat pipe routing is over done, but omg, that red MV Augusta is one sexy looking bike. If it was my decision, that red Ducati would be in my garage already,js. I only rode one Ducati 860GT, 40 yrs ago, I wasn't overly impressed, but I was young and stupid at the time. The Ducatis have a great rep around the track, people in the know seem to love them, and I think that 1000DS model is one of the lower state of tune bikes, that's supposed to be very easy to live with, compared to some of the higher state of tune bikes. It looks sexy as hell, sounds "mint", has a good title so it's safe money, and it sounds like it's been well taken care of. I love the 70 yr old owner describing doing power wheelies with it. In the used bike world, it sounds like it has been very well owned. Good luck keeping that thing out of your garage, lol. Kelly
  7. WTD V11 Lemans MPH riser kit, Mistral Carbon Ovals, crossover I am in Canada, which can be a pita for stuff like this, but if you happen to have these items surplus to your needs, I can convert them to cash for you. Tia Kelly
  8. WTD Cal Vin Mistral crossover I am in Canada, which can be a pita for stuff like this, but if you happen to have this item surplus to your needs, I can convert it to cash for you. Tia Kelly
  9. To the OP, in all seriousness, from my files,7 ft/lbs or 1 Kg/M, be very careful in all the conversions that can take place from manuals/internet to the tool in your hand. Do yourself a favor and don't just use any big old torque wrench, that you happen to have lying around, especially the new modern click styles. I've got 3 old fashioned beam style torque wrenches, 1/2", 3/8" & a tiny 1/4" drive, I would only use the tiny 1/4" drive on those little screws. I used to make the mistake of over tightening those rocker valve cover screws to solve perpetual leaking issues,,, it was the wrong method,,, let the gasket do it's job, don't over tighten and compress it. You can always go back and tighten up a little if need be , but once the OEM threads are stripped they're gone forever, yes they can be repaired, but it's an unnecessary pita. Good luck Kelly
  10. Torque? I used that a couple of times on those little screws, not a good idea ;~) Allen keys used like screw drivers, and then snugged just a little more, that's one spot, I like to err on the side of caution and med lock tite. I think the newer engines might have a harder alloy, the old round heads were made with some type of Italian cottage cheese lol. What made the biggest difference for me was going to the real good Valopini sp? valve cover gaskets, so I wasn't tempted to over tighten them trying to stop leaks. Go gentle and good luck Kelly
  11. Lovely bike, I had a '76 KZ900 in a very similar color,, being young and foolish at the time, I had to trade it in on the new Yamaha XS1100, oh well hindsight. I'm in a similar boat in regards to mechanics, I don't do it because because I love wrenching, I love my bikes and I want somebody that cares about the quality of work and care that goes into them,,, I've yet to find a mechanic that fits the bill. Yes I take a long time to do some jobs, I spend more time researching than wrenching, but at least I'm confident that it's done well at the end of the day. Tks for sharing, that's a sweet old bike. Kelly
  12. As much as I'd love to race a bike, there are a bunch of valid reasons I don't; but I have spent a fair amount of time around the track volunteering with the VRRA, so take my opinion with a grain of salt and that in mind. Find out what bikes/classes racing clubs are active in your area, it's no use setting up a full size modern race bike, if most of the races locally are smaller or vintage classes. For myself, as much as I'd love to have one of my big guzzis out on the track, I know that much weight and power would get me in trouble, I'd much rather throw around a light weight single or as someone already mentioned Ninja EX500 (great race track rep). It can be more fun to ride a slower bike fast. Dependable, tough and easily repairable/cheap would be my prime considerations, race bikes go down, it's a fact of life, not the type of thing I'd like to do to one of my guzzis or a real nice Ducati. If you're intending to do real racing and not just track days, it usually makes much more sense to buy a race bike that is already built and prepped, imo. Whatever you decide, don't skimp on protective gear. If any of the clubs hold racing schools, the riders seem to get a lot out of them, it not only improves their skills and confidence, but they are so much more comfortable and seem to have more fun out on the track, fwiw. Good luck with it, I envy you, they all look like they are having a blast out there! Kelly
  13. I just tripped across the original post on WG where Mike Haven of MPH had listed some of the Guzzi OEM paint codes. I snagged it in a format this time, that could be re posted here so there would be a record of it in case it may help anyone, fyi Good luck Kelly Paint codes are a national secret. You wont be getting any calls back. 14. As the winter sets in and I prepare to address a few outstanding jobs on my list, get parts together for my bikes, etc, I'm also mindful of paying some of my debts. When I downloaded guzzidiag a long time ago, I wasn't sure I would ever be able to get it to work or have a need for it, so I didn't hit the donate button at the time, promising to go back at a later date. I finally used it on my Griso this summer, and once I got it fully hooked up with the proper drivers, it worked like a charm. I look forward to tuning my new to me V11Lemans with it later this winter. I recently corresponded with Beard, the "generous genius", behind guzzidiag, he's now working on ways to improve the stock guzzi ABS systems; the man obviously is very dedicated to helping us guzzi owners. Even though I couldn't seem to navigate my way back to the donation button, it was very simple to send a donation via Paypal (to a friend) to guzzidiag@gmail.com , I had to be careful when I converted to Euros, rather than my intended 100 Euros donation, I almost sent .01 Euros, apparently it's an easy mistake to make. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to everyone, ride safe and often Kelly

  15. I think the large number of spirit flushes taking place and being reported, aren't always due to improperly adding gear oil through the timing inspection hole. I think it's usually due to leaking push rod seals or as in my case, the previous owner of my CalVin, adding too much gear oil to the transmission. I think the thought process is,,, if the manual calls for 750ml and a full bottle is 1 litre,,, adding the whole 1 litre jug of gear oil would be more of a good thing, what could it hurt ? The flush saved me from a huge job on my, new to me CalVin, and the clutch has been working great since, going on 3 years. Kelly
  16. Hey Mark, Welcome aboard, It's not my gig and I don't want to speak out of turn, but I think if you follow SCUD's PayPal instructions a few posts back, you should be in like Flint. Kelly
  17. Hey Scud, I just sent a pay pal for 2 springs. I was hoping to add enough extra so you could have a good beer or Starbucks while you were packing my springs; but by the time the international fees and the exchange rate kicked my Canadian dollars around, you'd be lucky to get a stale coffee at the 7-11, ;~) lol js. Thank you so much for taking this on again, and very obviously doing a hell of a fine job Very much appreciated Kelly
  18. I'm relatively new at this FI tuneup, only done my Griso(very different), CalVin (very similar?), but I'll throw a couple of thoughts your way. It sounds like you had a variety of symptoms, replaced a variety of parts and it still doesn't want to run, are you sure it's not something completely unrelated ie plugged fuel filter, line, fuel pump etc or an electrical connection short or bad relay, side stand, neutral ignition switch etc. I thought the 150 mv TPS reading was for the baseline setting with everything disconnected and the throttle plates closed, then once reconnected TPS adjusted to 486/487? mv for idle, I remember adjusting the idle, TB balancing and going back and forth adjusting the TPS a few times to get it running sweet. I don't understand your comment about the bike being able to run with the TPS disconnected, I would have assumed that if the TPS was disconnected nothing would run. Fresh eyes in the morning may solve it for you, sometimes works for me,lol. Good luck Kelly
  19. I agree with Rox Lemans, might be worth taking the pieces into a decent paint shop to see if they can salvage the original paint and refinish with some type of clear coat, if it worked, best and cheapest solution?. I have heard of decent paint suppliers making up custom, quality spray bombs, but I don't think anything like that is going to come cheap either, and from experience, painting is a learned art. I not only hoard motorcycles but info as well, lol. I snagged this enclosed document that Mike from MPH had posted somewhere with valid paint codes for some of the modern guzzis, I don't see any V11s on the list, but I did notice a few greys that MG has used in the past, might be worthwhile comparing against yours for a possible match with greys on other models. Ps, due size limitations I can't post the doc, if you want it, pm me an email add, and I can get it to you. While searching for Mike's original post I found a few posts that may help you out, I copied the link over for one that seems to have a lot of links and info, fwiw. Good luck Kelly
  20. Hey Chuck, I know time is precious, it's going to be a long winter, plenty of time for things to fall into place, if it's meant to be. Hopefully Scud is able to get the spring shop to run another batch off & if he's sick of boxing and mailing, perhaps there is someone close to him that may consider taking that over. I could forward some cash for beer & pizza, if someone wanted to throw an improved spring boxing/mailing party, lol. I can appreciate that all the little details required for something like this to float are a pita. If reengineered spring part 2 takes place, great, if not; I'll make sure I have a couple on hand from MGCycle by springtime. Thanks for your expertise and time that you've already invested in this; this 42 page thread is a testament to you,Scud & others that make this guzzi world, a special one. Kelly
  21. Higher mileage, but sounds like it's well loved and set up, in the UK as well, fwiw
  22. I put the word out on WG, done. https://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=103615.0 Tks for rallying the cause. Kelly
  23. Well to be fair, I remember my first guzzi and as I was getting familiar with it, I looked at the plug for the timing hole and figured that was where the tranny oil must go. Luckily I did rtfm, and I got the oil in the right place, but I thought at the time, I'm sure that others have made the same mistaken assumption, there's probably been a few out there, they're just being shy, lol. I've done the Varsol flush before on my CalVin for a slipping clutch problem, worked like a charm, my best ever mcgyver fix. I'll file docc's tip about removing the starter for next time, that sounds like a good plan. To the OP from experience, when you're whittling your wooden plug, don't use hardwood, I couldn't get it to seal well,,, the wood that worked was a piece of real cheap softwood, so the fibres swelled as it absorbed the solvent and sealed the hole. After I did two good rinses working the clutch, I took the bike out and abused the hell out of the clutch (fanning it many times)to get it good and hot and burn off any residue. Good luck Kelly
  24. Hey Tom, When I tried to jam my order through, it defaulted to their standard international shipping $40-50, I wasn't willing to pay that, so I left the shipping section blank and jammed my order through anyways and mentioned in the comments to ship it cheapest, USPS if possible. Their customer service contacted me and it went smoothly $15-20? shipping. Caspers were a treat to deal with, I've been trying for a frustrating month to deal with Nelson Riggs for a simple set of replacement straps that were missing from the bags when I got my V11. I can't believe that in this modern world, a line on a map can bring all business and common sense to a complete stand still, lol. Good luck with it Kelly
  25. Hey Tom, I enclosed a pdf copy of the Casper's product description of the breakout cables that I had saved for my own records. Hopefully this goes through and you can read it ok. Fyi good luck Kelly Breakout cable Caspers V11Lemans forum 109172 TPS Breakout (Dense 3 way Metripack).pdf
