  1. I think it's extremely bad business & counter productive. Manufacturers spend a lot of money on advertising,endorsements,movie placements etc,trying to develop brand recognition and hype & buzz about their products. As Docc mentions above, enthusiasts,forums,custom shops create a lot of good free promotion AND excited paying customers. I never did read Dave Richardson's books as Lucky Phil recommended,to get an understanding of the difficulties working with the guzzi factory/owners;but from the outside looking in,they seem to take pleasure & excel at pissing in the wrong people's corn flakes,jmho
  2. I've never ridden a Stelvio,but lusted for one for quite a while;I actually made a decent offer on a NOS 2014,but thankfully the dealer turned my offer down. With all the taxes,prep,freight charges etc,the price would've been 3 X what I paid for my V11 and at this point,that tall & heavy a bike really isn't what I need. From all the reading I did,the Stelvio owners,describe it as a tall heavy bike,that handles far better than you would think it should. Many describe it as the most comfortable touring rig they've ever ridden;IF that's what you're looking for in a motorcycle. fwiw

I take it by that comment that it's a bucket & shim setup,,, mea culpa,,,I'd be in the wailing and gnashing of teeth group I realize it's a more precise and long term stable adjustment once done,but for a home mechanic living far away from a shop with a supply of shims;that was a job I grew to detest. My bike had apparently spent it's whole life? 6K kms with the tank vent line T'd off to the vacuum ports on the TBS,for whatever reason,when I changed the baseline tune up settings,it didn't like it. I cleaned out the 2 gas tank vent holes by the cap iirc 6 & 7 o'clock with small wire & eliminated that T and the hoses connecting the TB's,capped the ports off with vacuum caps,eliminating that wildcard completely. I'm not sure indexing is the proper term,but the first balance set up I had was perfect, but when I replaced the throttle linkage rod,in order to get it to snap into place smoothly with no right or left movement,the plastic cup on the end of the threaded rod at the right TB had only a couple of threads into that cup,I wasn't comfortable with that. I disconnected the whole rod (circlip on left side don't lose it btdt lol) buried the threaded rod completely into the plastic cup on the right side,readjusted the white knob on the left,so when I reattached the threaded rod linkage,I now had lots of threaded rod buried into the plastic cup when it was adjusted to snap into place with no movement on the throttle linkages.

I just went through this, my bike ran fine, but the air screws had been completely closed & my trim was at -26, I redid the decent basic tuneup with air screws opened one turn,that changed my baseline tune a lot. I redid it a few times,because I had to re index the throttle linkage to give me more space on the threaded rod part when I dropped it down into position. I changed my trim to +26 When I finished the tuneup & balance I reattached the existing tank vent T connection to the vacuum ports on the TBs. It ran great,but developed horrible tank suck issues. Cured my tank suck rough running issues by removing the T tank vent line,changing it to a straight atmosphere vent, & capped off the vacuum ports on each TB. Was your throttle linkage indexed,so it dropped down smooth with no movement? What is your trim? Are your vacuum ports capped? Did you start off by adjusting the valves as a baseline?
  6. Spine frames are a bit of a challenge lining up mechanics, not old enough for the vintage guys,,not new enough for the modern guys. I'll throw 2 names out,they probably wouldn't want to do the work,but they're both highly respected and might know of someone close to you that's capable. Charlie at ACC Antietam Classic Cycle in Maryland does excellent tranny work, but I've only ever seen him touching Loop & Tonti frame bikes (301)432-2275. Jim Hamlin at Hamlin Cycles in CT is highly respected as well,but to my knowledge modern stuff is his main business 203-942-2232 I'm not an Ebay guy so I don't know how to search it properly;but I know within the last year, while searching for other parts,I've stumbled across salvage dealers down in the US who were parting out a V11 on Ebay,you might get lucky. fwiw idk fyi.   7. I'm interested in your KD 1" lowering pegs, but I tend to ride with my boot in tight to the frame sometimes almost on top of the base of the peg mounting swivel pin/frame. I'm on limited bandwidth (satellite connection) so I don't venture over here very often,I noticed Footgoose posted a tune above by Beth Hart;I'm always going through my vault of songs and I just happen to be working on a nice old Bobby Bland classic tune that she covered and inspired me to play "I'll Take Care of You" fwiw I'm always looking for new/different gospel style tunes to play and I stumbled on this extremely sweet tune that's gone viral just recently. The original song "Beautiful Day" was composed by Jermaine Edwards, but about 6 yrs ago a young 10 yr old Jamaican boy by the name of Rushawn had someone record him a cappella in his classroom and uploaded the tune. Recently a mix master artist by the name of The Kiffness stumbled across it,worked his magic,overlaying new vocals,harmonies,rythm,reggae bass lines,trumpet solo and the video even has a cameo appearance of a dancing cat This song has a raw innocent soul touching vibe that is resonating with the world right now,1st 24 hrs it had 2 million views, 3 weeks later,iirc 20 million views, it's viral for a reason.

Thank you so much for your descriptions and photo documentation,excellent! It's beautiful to watch At some point I'm hoping that there will be a discussion/confirmation re Baldini's post on the driveshaft alignment issue;especially in light of your recent work in that area. This is all above my pay grade,but I'm doing my best Sponge Bob imitation trying to absorb as much as I can. Patience,fresh eyes when needed & sage guidance; Carry on Sir!
  10. That's nasty looking. You're very lucky that didn't happen unnoticed on a long ride. What type of filter is it? I've never experienced problems with them myself(Other than whole gaskets coming off and being left behind out of sight) but I've read lots of negative comments on UFIs fwiw

  12. "If" there is a possibility of a method of repair using known quality supplies, you "might' want to consider it,idk. I'm definitely not a cable expert,I've only ordered & replaced a few over the years,but even buying from respected suppliers specializing in MGs, there's always been issues with quality or fitment. I've purchased throttle cables for one of my Tontis from a well known US supplier;the cable & casing was of a low quality, slightly smaller and I had to do a mcgyver shim job to make it work,because the inner cable was too long. Recently I purchased a throttle cable from Germany for my V11;same deal, cable and casing were inferior quality,slightly smaller and the inner cable was so long,even with creative shimming and adjustment,,, I couldn't make it work. I ended up mcgyering my old oem cable instead. All that to say,buyer beware when it comes to cables. If there is a quality repair work around that you do using oem pieces with known quality parts/supplies, that "may" be an option to consider. fwiw fyi

I lusted for the CX100 way back in the day, but although I was a bike fiend and hit every shop I could for a number of years,in all that time and for many decades after,I had never actually seen a guzzi in person. The first guzzi I actually saw in the flesh was approximately 15 yrs ago,while outside on a smoke break,a guy at work rides into the parking lot on an RM that he had just picked up on a bus & ride deal from Chicago? I love red guzzis, and there's something special in the RM red that doesn't always show up in photos. I think there is some type of Candy Apple Red thing going on in the mix. Imo it's the nicest red I've ever seen on a bike. RE considering the clutch/flywheel angle;I'm just glad it's not for sale close to me,so I don't have to worry about it being my issue,lol
  15. Even though I've read lots about tank suck here,I only ever experienced it recently when I took my V11 for it's 1st extended hard test run. The bike ran great,but when I went to refuel,took great effort to open the tank lid and the tank sides shook very harshly as the vacuum let go. Was lucky the paint didn't crack. The bike ran like crap for the 10 miles home and would barely idle. I cured it by re plumbing the tank vent line from the existing T connector/lines to the vacuum ports on the TBs to a single line open to the atmosphere;then capped off the vacuum ports at the TBs. I also cleaned out the 2 vent holes by the tank lid opening,iirc located at 6 & 7 0'clock. I used a small plain metal wire I had handy, but the next time I change guitar strings, I'll be keeping an old wound G string for the tool box, I think it would work perfect for opening/clearing those vents. The bike has run like a top since. fwiw
  16. Being winter and you have time to play around, I'd let gravity & time work for you. I'd bungee the lever down(per Docc's suggestion),fill up the reservoir,remove the caliper put it down low on the floor,open the bleeder,put tubing on the bleeder extending over the height of the reservoir. Every now and then cycle the lever or move the caliper pads in & out, and tap along the reservoir/M/C/brake line/caliper to loosen any surface tension on bubbles blocking things. When I had such a biatch of a time bleeding my new clutch line this year, it took me probably 3-4 wks of dicking around on and off like that before I got a good firm pull. Once you get the air & fluid moving and the system filled up with fluid, it should start to firm up much quicker, at that point I'd move the caliper up higher for the final bleed. fwiw

I'm not a cheese expert,I don't understand the science that well,so for sure I couldn't explain it,but I think that cheese curds are formed on the surface of some type of cheese process and scooped up floating on the top of the whey? They're curly rubbery little pieces of salty cheese about the size of a frito chip. A regular Poutine is just good french fries,covered in a hot brown gravy with a bunch of fresh cheese curds sprinkled on top. What makes a great Poutine for me,is that halfway point where the curds are melting into the hot gravy,but still have a bit of firmness to bite into. This Pannhass or Scrapple you guys are talking about,sounds similar to what we'd call fried hash up here. Whatever leftover meat or veggies happened to be around,tossed into a hot oiled cast iron pan with garlic & onions for a base and usually buffed out with potatoes.
  18. It sounds like the seller "may" be what we refer to up here as a curbsider. Guys that make a little bit of money on the side flipping vehicles on the side, but never registering themselves as a business. They usually have to pay tax if they transfer the title into their name,so to keep their profits higher,they like to leave the title in the name of the person they got it from. It may take a little work to figure out exactly what you bought,but it sounds like you got a smoking bargain on it
  19. I love Mexican food,but it's a rare treat. We don't have a lot of that around here and I'm sure the quality wouldn't compare to what's served down south. I'm not that big a poutine fan,it's gone crazy now with all the fancy gourmet types. I used to work with a guy and his favorite was a big platter of fries covered in spaghetti sauce with mozzarella cheese.eeww There is one famous poutine place way up in Barry's Bay, Charlie D's, that I sometimes ride up to for lunch. I've always wanted to try his OktoberFest Poutine, which is Sauerkraut W spicy German Sausage over the fries, curds on top,,,but I get up there so rarely I have to go with my favorite standard order; The Hunters Poutine, which is, big chunks of onion w big tender chunks of venison, stewed up in a burnt dark brown gravy, heaped over the fries covered in snapping fresh, salty curds,,,uuummm,,,it's to die for.

  22. I try to mention Docc as often as I can,and I did at the top of my post,but I agree with you,it would be impossible for me to sing his praises and accolades too often or fervently. This place & our bikes wouldn't run as smoothly as they do if it wasn't for Docc,the master craftsman and resident expert of all things V11. For an electrical luddite like myself,Docc's intimate knowledge of the V11,and his patient methodical analysis and eagerness to help us work through problems and gather and organize the right information, and point us in the right direction,is invaluable. The V11s are a new motorcycle mystery to me,it's extremely confidence inspiring,knowing that Docc is there to hold my hand and spoon feed me the right stuff to keep my bike in fine running order. Words can't express my gratitude for Docc's sage guidance.

  24. When I was researching the MPH risers,I read a lot of Todd's posts,he seemed like quite the character. Paraphrasing Mike's words, "He was the best damn parts guy I ever knew,I feel at a loss without him around helping to keep things on track" At one point I needed a sportier ride around,life always has a way of connecting dots when needed,and a smoking deal on that very well set up 2 valve 2007 Griso crossed my path. I agree with Pete Roper, they are excellent roadsters. That waterfall backdrop for the Griso photo, is my favorite spot to stop for lunch when I'm out riding back country roads in that area. It's at the 4th Chutes on the Bonnechere River,right across the road from the Bonnechere Caves,SE of Eganville, Ont. If you open this google map link and click on the camera/photo icon on the map, you'll see a better view of the falls. A street view from that link will show you the abandoned old water mill site across the road and a wide angled shot.   25. I know that a lot of riders, especially some of the vintage racers with odd sizes,love their Avon tires.
