  1. Finally moving in. I left the wood natural, and taking docc’s good advice for an acid wash, gave it all a scrub with a vinegar/water/soap solution and a final rinse. It still smells like an Easter egg but I feel pretty good about the state of the old wood. I’ll put in some pegboard and bring more stuff in next week, but it’s great to finally have a workable space.
  2. I recall hearing that if the stock ECU is remapped, eventually over time it will restore itself to the factory settings. I don’t remember the source for this nor the details, and I may be misremembering anyway as this was when I first got my bike. But is this factual, and if so what happens and how does one maintain for it?

The venerable green body and red pork chops, and those trick valve covers.....Oh Momma!

A beautiful bike! Are those polished pork chops?
  6. How so? Could not a LeMans do with the shorter frame? I thought the V11 was basically a naked LeMans? btw, thanks all for the encouraging info on an Ohlins / red frame marriage. I’ve not ridden a long frame bike, but I find my short red frame bike stable enough and fairly nimble considering her weight. The suspension feels a bit harsh at times, and I am sure that when I finally get around to sorting out what ever it needs it will perform better. But perhaps an Ohlins equipped red frame V11 would be a grand thing!

    Birthday Cake

In this case, I guess you can have your cake and ride it, too! What an awesome cake! Who made it?
  9. Just curious for reference sake if the Ohlins forks and shock like these from a black frame V11 will be a simple swap and work well on a red frame V11? I’m sure that has been covered before and I’ve overlooked it. Thanks
  10. Now that’s something I haven’t seen for a long time!
  11. Marco69, welcome to the party! Some real gems in your list. XS650 a first hard tail.....I’m a fan of both.
  12. That’s fine, docc. Thanks as always for your steadfast attention to this well sorted forum!
  13. Here’s the Green Muse in her soon-to-be-pimped lair. Finally got this space cleaned up. I hope to paint and start setting up this weekend.
  14. Informative and fun. I would love to go to Sammy Miller’s museum.
  15. Nice. I also like your shortened rear fender. A nicely sorted bike!
  16. Thank you, footgoose. I went to Home Depot today and rented a 2000psi gas pressure washer. Dang . That sucker kicks. Your 3800psi one must have been like wrestling an alligator! A lot of gunk got washed off and flushed out, and I feel pretty good about the cleaner state of the walls and floor. I’ll let the garage air out for a week and proceed next weekend. cheers!
  17. After doing a good vacuum and sweep of the garage, I think I want to pressure wash everything to get the dirt etc off of the wood. I know I can rent a pressure washer, but are there decent pressure washers to buy for not too much, like around $200 or so? Any recommendations? It seems like that would be a handy thing to have around, and I can find other uses it may be a good thing to just buy to have around.
  18. Thanks so much for everyone’s excellent input and sharing. I’ve been distracted and consumed by work all week, but have the next few days to get down to cleaning a prepping the space. It’s great to read and see what you all are posting! I hope everyone has a great weekend!
  19. That sounds pretty handy. A lift of some type will be a must now that I have real shop space. The hospital bed solution sounds pretty cool.....would you post a pic, please! Thanks!
  20. Thanks, fotoguzzi. This home is overall pretty “rustic”, and that’s putting it euphemistically. Keeping the raw wood look is cool, but how would you go about giving the wood a deep cleaning? This room saw a lot of interior humidity with mushroom spore and other crap floating around. I was concerned that the wood may been damaged from this, but it looks ok, however it’s dirty. That was part of the appeal of vacuuming away the cobwebs and giving it a coat of paint. Is it safe to hose down the walls, or is that a bad idea?
