Thanks for the great advice! Just to be sure that I follow, butt connectors are the metal tubes that are crimped down to join the ends or wires? Do you also solder them, or is crimping enough? Where is that? I’m guessing that it’s not Radio Shack.

Thank you Cool. It sounds like these are an improvement over other relays. Would they be used for other bikes’ needs as well? like older Guzzi’s, Ducatis, et al? When I finally win the lottery I plan on having a stable of crazy Italian iron......perhaps I should buy more of these relays before the remaining stock of 2500 is gone!

I would crimp or solder a spade connector to the wire. But other than that, is it reasonable to assume that just moving that one wire out of socket #2 and back to socket #1would do it? I guess there’s no harm in trying. I can always put it back to where it’s at now.

To put it back to stock is it simply a matter of removing the wire coming from the ScotchLok connector from the socket #2 light relay and replacing it in the middle connector slot in the #1 starter relay socket?

Wow. Thanks so much. You guys are amazing! To me it just looks like a bunch of spaghetti. Why would they do this? And should I leave it be or put back it to the original configuration? The bike starts right up as is. The bike has an LED headlight, perhaps that causes less of a load?

It’s a little hard to get clear pic, but here is the bottom of the socket strip. #1 is on the right. Only four wires going in. The wiring looks really clean.

Hi gstallons, all five relay sockets have four spade connectors; none of them has a fifth connector. I posted a picture of the relay sockets a few posts up. Thanks

Actually, I just put all new OMRON’s in today. This was how I noticed the lack of the 5th connector in socket #1. The headlight flickers, or perhaps it’s more of a quick dimming action than a full off-on flicker, when the starter first cranks. This is a quick event as the bike starts right up. The light stays on, though. Perhaps Luigi had a second glass of Chianti with lunch the day that he wired up my bike.

Thanks very much for that info! My light flickers a little while cranking, but it stays on.

Here is more information to add the mix regarding relays: My bike is a 2001 V11 Sport, with a production date on the VIN plate of 5-2000. After changing my relays I see only 4 spade connectors in relay socket #1, i.e., all of the relay sockets in this bike have 4 spade connectors, including socket #1 which should have 5. I have not delved into a detailed schematic diagram for the bike’s wiring, but according to the parts catalog the #1 relay is different than #2-#5, which suggests that #1 is a 5 blade. But on this particular bike no 5th connector is included for socket #1. Does anyone know what the 5th connector in socket #1 is for?
  11. Replaced the mix of Chinese relays that were in the bike with new U.S. made OMRONs. The OMRON relays are no longer made, but there are still about 2500 available from onlinecomponents.com (https://www.onlinecomponents.com/omron-electronics/g8he1c7trdc12-42670683.html Thanks docc!) One thing that I discovered is a suspect socket in position #4 (counting from front to back). If I wiggle the #4 relay the fuel pump goes on and off. I suspect that this has been like this for a while, and I’ve never had a problem, but I think I’ll pull and check out the relay base.
  12. Man, I’m really sorry to hear that. I have family on the peninsula and they’re hurting. Stay safe. Nice. For the scores of times that I traveled over the Bay Bridge, I’ve never stopped off on Treasure Island. Next time I’m stopping.
  13. The Scura always looks fabulous, but a bit sinister, too. The dark Scura’s emerging presence upon a peaceful scene, with the juxtaposed balance of it against the white building in the background, and the shaft of light falling betwixt them, adds tension and mystery to the picture. A very nice picture!
  14. KINDOY2, hope the fires up there are not impacting you. That’s a cool mural. Where is that? The Mistrals are awesome, btw!

Makes sense. Docc, for the link you provide above for the OMRONs from OnlineComponents, those relays are STDP, but also available as SPST. Is the STDP the correct version? Thanks

I pulled mine to see what type they are, and to my surprise all of them are 4 blade relays. Should not the #1 position (counting from front to back of bike) be a 5 blade relay? I have had no trouble as far as I know in around a year of ownership. Here’s a pic. #1-#4 are the black LKK, and #5 is the blue. Are these the originals, or more likely replacements with using the same 4 blade for #1? As far as having 4 vs 5 blades for #1 (if that’s the correct position for the 5 blade), what I’m I missing with having only 4 blades? As I understand it, a good 30A 5 blade will work in all 5 positions? I think I should probably upgrade to be safe. Looking at the links for the OMRONs and the GEIs on Dan’s site, OMRON is U.S.A. and not sealed, GEI is Chinese and sealed, and about half the cost of the OMRON. Is the OMRON worth the extra cost? Thanks!

  18. Ahhhh...so that’s what’s underneath all that plastic! Well done on the red powder coating. Looking good!
  19. From the recent run of these great photos, it looks like a lot of you guys are ditching the long rear fender and doing some sort of “tail tidy”. I’m all for striping things down, but how’s it riding in the wet?
  20. Beautiful, unique and a very classy bike. Never seen one quite like it or nicer. Yours is a very inspiring story....well done, Tom!
  21. Our beloved V11s and ol’ Doc Watson have something in common: Rough and Rowdy Ways!
  22. Changed out the stock mufflers for these nice Mistrals. These have a bit more rumble and pop than the stock mufflers. I really like the sound of the stock pipes, a rich deep tenor and smoother than these. These are more open sounding, and they suit the V11’s rough and rowdy ways very well. The bike seems to like it, she’s running with a good spirit, like riding a Mustang horse if-ya-know-whadda-mean! Also: the stock mufflers weigh 9.89 lb each, total pair is 19.78 lb. These Mistral conical carbon fiber mufflers weigh 4.65 lb each, total pair is 9.3 lbs.
  23. Awesome, bridge! Please share pics as you sort your bike along! This may be something that you are totally not interested in, but using grip pads on the tank may help as an interim aid until you sort the seat out. I put a set on my V11’s tank (TechSpec has a V11 templet) and they do help me to stay where I want on the seat and I get an easier grip on the tank without squeezing so hard.
  24. Thank you, guys. I’ll take another look and try cleaning the drain.
