  1. Exactly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxoTSqWgJhk
  2. I have not; now ride testing a V85 will most likely be less challenging than tracking a Quota, or so it seems. I can easily go to AF1 in Austin and check out a V85TT in less than two shakes of the lamb's tail. I have ridden "Trail bikes" before. Honda dominator, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki while I was in Sicily. My bike was an Harley Davidson at the time, but my colleagues liked to ride on the beaches. I have been drawn to the Quota because of its oddity. I also like that the engine is very similar to our V11s. I had the opportunity to see a Quota up close and personal last year in Boise, and I liked it. If the seller had not tempered with the clutch and brake levers by removing the balled ends, I probably would have gone ahead and purchased it, despite not really liking the color.
  3. @Speedfrog the Red Quota from Arizona transmitted his phone number via Facebook Messenger. I was already setting up to travel to see the Black one. I guess I am going to have to see them both.
  4. For 2024, Moto Guzzi introduces a new variable distribution on the 850, with new cylinder heads design; Power goes from 76 hp @7500 rpm to 80 hp @7750 rpm and torque from 82 Newton.metre @5000 to 83 N.m @5100 A new entry too with the Moto Guzzi V85 Strada; This model is aimed at those who will never venture off the asphalt. Non spoked wheels same dimensions though 19" front 17" rear, smaller windshield, 4 kg less than the V85 TT. 11,000 Euros and available in April 2024. Also, for 2024, Moto Guzzi has revamped the dashboard and incorporated a six axis IMU. I am starting to think that I should rather consider a V85 rather than chase this illusory Quota. Here's an article you can consult: https://ridermagazine.com/2023/11/10/2024-moto-guzzi-v85-range-review-first-look/
  5. It took a little while for my email to return as "undelivered". Or the seller may have classified me as a fraud, given my haste to set up a meet. This is the issue with those free to use selling apps. Sellers may be overprotective, depending on personality, because of all the information about the bad people trying to take advantage, they may identify anything genuine as dangerous. At least the other Quota I identified in Florida on FB got some traction: It only has 4.7 kmiles, was brought from UK by its first owner. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/653848136729846?ref=saved&referral_code=null
  6. @Speedfrog It is frustrating as I had time to go and check the bike, even drive it back home. This window closes on Monday, as I have other engagements. I also contacted him on FB, just in case. I found some other Quota, but none of them Red. I am still monitoring some Stelvio too, including one which price was recently dropped; It is ok, I am patient.
  7. I am guessing you have not, because I sent him another email now that I am back in H'town, and I got an "email box full" automatic message from Craig's list email relay system. I cannot make sense of it; usually, the relay server pushes every email to the recipient, so they keep internal storage to a minimum. However, I don't really know how Craigslist email server works. Unless, you need to log in into your Craigslist account in order to reply using your unmarked Craigslist email. The guy is currently offline then. Updated: I found the same Quota on Facebook Marketplace with the seller's name. He has a car for sale too.
  8. It seems to be the preferred way for many (just saying), tow your bike and ride it there... I may be missing something; to me, going to the rally on your bike is kind of the purpose of it all, no? I did come to the conclusion a Trail/Adventure bike is the natural companion to a V11; different enough to provide a different kind of vibe. Likewise, I would really like to be able to get a red Quota.
  9. @activpop This is what you need!! CaVa?
  10. I thought I had, but it seems to be another stab in the dark. It has been one year since I started my quest, and Craig's list or Facebook Marketplace are more misses than hits. Unfortunately, there seem to be no Moto Guzzi Quota ever on CycleTrader, because it is not free to list. Sellers on CT are more reliable than those on free platforms. So far, the only good experience I had was the Craig's list Quota seller in Boise. We even kept in touch. All my other attempts were negative for multiple reasons, either sold, no reply, only selling to local.
  11. Just in case, if you click on any stop, the stop number and address comes out on the left of the map! For the record, stop #39 was correct on this map right from the get go. I don't use the addresses provided by the tour; I search and confirm before. I suppose you got the double email about 39... I was hoping to register a Red Quota as a second motorcycle this year....
  12. If the bike is prepared properly for the display, as in removing all liquids, it would not make a sniffing difference. Besides, as you know, the sense of smell is easily lost because it works on comparison principle. After a while, you would not notice any difference. I had a friend who lived with a companion from the weasel family. You would enter is home and immediately notice the odor. But after some time, it would subside. Obviously, back home, people would ask you where you'd been, because the smell would stick to your clothing but you would no longer be aware of it.
  13. Approximate tip angle? as in, how far did you go to not tip over... Although I don't zero my partial trip, each time I refill, I make a mental note on actual mileage + 150 miles = next approximate refueling. My amber alert glow can easily be missed if I ride with the sun above me. It is also sensitive to inclination, so it may light in certain situations. Personally, I don't put too much trust in it. In 2021, after I acquired the motorcycle, I never ran long enough to check if it was working. Even now that I know it does, I do not take the risk to rely upon it. Last summer, riding west Texas by 110 degF, I was very conscious about what it could mean if I broke down out in the sticks... I decided that running out of gas should never be an option. The "actual mileage left" would be the only concession I could be prepared to make to modern technology. In Europe, on highways, they have signs that inform you about the distance to the next gas stations, so you can easily decide where you should stop. This and free air make life easier.
  14. Not really, because of the corollary: "Don't let the door hit you on your way out".... still requires an inward opening door...
  15. @PJPR01 I got the quote, I will pay tomorrow and will let you know when I get the goods; Box V2 taglia 2XL color black carbon 24,59 2 49,18 Box6 V2 taglia 2XL color black carbon 51,64 2 103,28 TS1L taglia 2XL color black carbon 53,28 2 106,56 TS3L, taglia 2XL color black carbon 68,03 2 136,06 TBX, color black carbon 18,03 1 18,03 Short Logo, taglia III 16,39 4 65,56 Merinos Socks" taglia II Colore rosso 20,49 2 40,98 Merinos Socks", taglia II. 16. The 2025 "find your next riders" has already started, even before the 2024 season debut; while Ducati has been playing it low-key, having Marc Marquez in the factory team would obviously work wonders for fame. They already have the best bike, putting the most notorious man on it would be a marketing coup. KTM is also on the war path. After all, Marquez was reportedly testing the waters, since he and KTM are Red-Bull people. Marc Marquez is, at least before the season starts, the hot potato everyone is trying to grab. We had a disputed 2023, at least on the pilot side, and 2024 is looking to be an even bigger challenged one; at least on paper. Time will tell.
  17. I have never come across home doors opening outward, and I have been living in a lot of places around the world. It makes sense to have an outward opening for safety in places that have to privilege an emergency exit with a mass effort, for safety purposes. All the doors that have been slammed in my face were always opening inward...
  18. Well, after what I thought was a promising debut, the seller has gone into complete radio silence. I have sent multiple email in an attempt to set a rendezvous to check out the bike, without any reply since the initial one. Given that I only have a relay email generated by Craigslist, and no other form of contact, I would like to ask your collegial favor: Could you email check if he is only ignoring me, and you get a reply? since he answered from his phone the first time, I am guessing I may have spooked him by being honest and telling him I was currently out of Houston, but wanted to already plan ahead. thanks in advance!
  19. There are some traditions around the world about the 1st day of the next year; for example, some seaside cities have the 1st sea swim of the year. I think we should have ours; the first Moto Guzzi ride of the year, to celebrate. Mine will have to wait, unfortunately, I am far from the damzelle. So instead, I registered for the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas 2024. Let's see what flag number I get this year.
  20. @activpop What changed in 25 years? Before: After 25 years!
  21. There is a follow-up article in the Washington Post today, about the software update deployed by Tesla to address the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration concern with crashes while on autopilot. The journalist verified the upgrade after it was uploaded on his own vehicle. During his drive, he verified that he was still able to activate the autopilot in an urban environment where it was not conceived to operate in. While the update was supposed to force the driver to keep his hands on the steering wheel and his eyes on the road, he was able to have the autopilot on while keeping his hands off for longer than one minute at a time, and obscuring the interior camera that checks that you are paying attention. The journalist's conclusion is: (snippet from the Washington Post dated 31-Dec-2024, author Geoffrey A. Fowler)
  22. I can share my own experience, since I stopped being a motorcycle owner at the end of 1991; I resumed riding when I purchased my V11 Le Mans in December 2020. Now, I did rent bikes along the time, but it is not exactly the same as owning and being able to ride as you wish. Your friend should first and foremost go for the bike he wants to ride ultimately. The one that is going to bring a smile to his face each time he thinks about his next venture on it. There are no other considerations to be taken. Getting a bike to get back in the saddle is not a proper reason. I will explain the rationale latter. What I did, is to take a safety course, so I could verify my ability to handle the motorcycle. However, it was not a real trial by fire, since the motorcycles we used were small 125cc bikes, which did not present any challenge for someone who has ridden before. In April 2021, I went to Pensacola to get the Le Mans; the plan was to bring it back riding. An easy ride on I-10. I am not going to lie, I had a little apprehension as I exited the parking lot. The few traffic light stops before I-10 got me right back in, and I was easily cruising the highway when I suddenly realized the odometer did not increment. I then proceeded back to the dealership and left them the V11 to be sent to me, as I did not want to ride home not knowing if the low fuel light would come at all, having lost trust with the dealership who had previously ensured me the bike could be ridden back to H'town. Bottom line? once you have ridden a bicycle, you will always be able to pick up where you left off. The only difference is your physical aptitude. This is what you need to ascertain and find out. When I mean physical aptitude, I mean strength; muscles; shear force! The only exception to not buying the bike you really want, is that you are NOT certain you will enjoy riding again. An analogy is when your kid comes and says he wants to play guitar. You buy him a cheap one first, because you don't know if he will drop it after a few strums, like he did with all that he tried before. A few three thousand miles on his dream Guzzi will put him right back into it! trust me!
  23. @Speedfrog Bingo! the guy answered; it has 31,000 miles, one owner. The actual seller bought it from the owner's estate, so he does not know anything about the bike but he said it looked in good condition. I believe that he is some kind of liquidator? his wording led me to believe the owner passed away. I am planning to go to Arizona to check it out the first week of January. If I like it, I will drive it back to Houston.
