Apparently during the test drive the technician was ran off the road by another car.... What was the Murphy law for this? if anything can go wrong, it will?- 111 replies

Just for conversation' sake; does anyone know why we need to check the oil level warm? In the old days, the recommendation was to always check when the engine was cold and the oil fully collected in the sump. With a wet sump of course. Dry sump required to have the engine running to check the oil level, as for the Honda CB 750. Why would Guzzi recommend running the engine for a few minutes, stop it, and then check the oil level? I am thinking, and correct me if I am wrong, synthetic oils expend a lot more than mineral oils. My guess is, that dipstick is calibrated to be accurate with synthetic oils, meaning with a cold engine, the oil level would be shown lower than if you followed the recommendation to check with warm oil; making you possibly top off the oil when it is not needed.

Having a black engine does not help the trouble shooting. I did check the tightness of the hoses connections to the oil radiator.
-
These worm-screw adjustable collars.... Thanks, I have now an idea at what I should be looking for.
-
I found that hose on MG Cycle, and found another topic in the forum. The oil coat is on the right end side of the engine. Bottom only. I took some pictures let me try to find them.
-
Anybody has photos of the intake of that hose? my engine gets oil slicked when I ride on long run. Only the right end side. That breather hose was indicated as a possible culprit.
-
I have a permanent tendinitis in my left wrist. When I spot a slow down or a red light, I slow down hoping to not have to stop and use the clutch. Typically, I would not run that slow.
-
Is it something like an oil return? like carrying excess oil back to the sump? there is a technical term for this, which I know in French: "retour de fuites"; is leakage return line sounds correct?

I just heard that Suzuki will officially announce its departure from MotoGP at the end of the MotoGP 2022. This is going to set the pilot musical chairs in turmoil. I regret to see Suzuki leaving when they seem to be performing well. Apparently a business decision after the hard times experienced these two past seasons. I would pretty much think Pol Espargaro's seat at Repsol Honda could suit Johan Mir pretty well. Not sure about Rins.

The one on their website does not require a tool to remove. It is the same as the stock one, with an aluminum cap and a black rod to gauge oil level. I was wondering if the oil level is easier to spot.
-
Did you like Max Biaggi? Confidence for confidence, I am not a big fan of the "Escargots" brothers either.... I am really wondering about Maverick Viñales. I was expecting him to come out now that the Aprilia seems to be going well. He got a brand new crash helmet painted as his Top Gun alter ego, which got him a tweet from Tom Cruise: -From one Maverick to the other.... Nice!

I fished this thread from the medieval times in case anybody has something new to add to it. I check my oil level before any trip as everyone else does. On my first attempt, I immediately noticed how difficult it was to get an accurate level on a dipstick that needs to be rotated, with ridges, grey colored, with level control to be carried out when the oil is warm, so less viscous. I did not really care as long as I could tell the oil level was above the minimum. Now, I have an oil leak. It is a seepage, and I am having a hard time finding its origin. It coats the right side of the engine on long rides. I wanted to take differential measurements in order to find how much oil I am losing per trip. That proved almost impossible. I browsed all the threads on this forum, with "dipstick" as the key word, and checked them out. This thread seems to be the closest in description to my issue. Has anybody tried to make the part of the stick top and bottom level as an eyelash brush? My rationale: Using a hacksaw, I would make some notches at regular intervals to help retain oil better. It would also help as measurement vernier. MGCycle sells an oil dipstick with the rod in blackened steel. (Please check your dipstick length prior to ordering.) were there V11 with different oil dipstick lengths? Are the MGCycle oil dipsticks easier to read than the grey plastic stock ones?

And leaking oil too.... I can't find the origin(s) of the leak(s). I clean the engine, do a run, and come back with the right side of it coated with oil and nothing to lead me to the culprit.

The other one is... France! Remember le Sieur de la Salle? he had the French flag flying over Texas. Not the actual one, but the one who bore the Fleur de Lys. Once France reclaims the Louisiana Territory, you will be French too...- 111 replies

I am willing to listen to the reason why it happened before I make an opinion. However, this is the second incident and that does not bode well for the future.- 111 replies

Moto America was kind enough to make the two rounds available to watch on YouTube. I have a different take on Gagné's crash. Petrucci had just beaten the lap record, and Gagné was feeling the heat from behind. He set his own lap record and then went down. This is what happens when you are under pressure from a pursuit. We could agree that Gagné would not have crashed if Petrucci had been off pace. On a side note, Gagné is the past participle of the verb "Gagner", "To win". -Jake Gagne: Jake wins. -Jake à gagné: Jake won. The proper way to write Jake' surname would be with an accent on the final e. "é". Else the pronunciation would be like a silent "e". But as I discovered myself, in the US the administration can't put accents. Anyway, I am eager to see what happens on the next race.

@PJPR01 Took out the 911 this afternoon to run an errand and another piece replaced by Einer's fell off. I am going back to Einer's tomorrow to get an explanation. This is rather disappointing, but I will wait to get the rationale before I decide what to feel about it. In any case, my time is precious and that would be my second run for a fix.- 111 replies

Francesco Bagnaia seems to have found his old self again? at least he kept Fabio Quartararo at bay during the length of the GP. This is the first victory of the GP22, so Ducati must have had a sigh of relief. From pole too. I personally think that if Fabio Quartararo had managed to be ahead on the first curve, he may not have gone away. We will never know. It seemed that Marc Marquez did better than expected too. Not yet fighting for first podium, but improved. That elbow save was him, 100%. Personally, seeing Aleix on the podium again was very pleasing.

Tellico Plains Cherohala Skyway Trip-Last Weekend.

Bumped into a "911" enthusiast while my car was at the Doctor's, and he absolutely wanted me to enroll into their club. They have reunions every Saturdays, and a lot of outings. I lost him when I said I was a V11 enthusiast and all my free time accounted for. I think he did not understand what could be better than driving a Porsche 911. I told him have you ever ridden a V11? crickets.... there you go! -
@Kiwi_Roy I have absolutely no idea on what were the requirements to get the V11 family together in Guzzi under Aprilia's Beggio. We know that Aprilia was in financial difficulty that resulted in the Piaggio Group's take over. Before Aprilia, De Tomaso was running the show. The Moto Guzzi design bureau had a budget, and the sustaining engineer (if there was one), another to solve whatever issues that came after the industrialization. This would have been typical. What we know, only the show stopper problems were remediated. I would propose they were trying to get by with minimal or skeleton budget. Even today, we do not hear anything about the V100 Mandello. We are in May now, and no pre-series bikes have been released, there is no schedule and no information about it. I only found one obscure Italian journalist who said the V100 will come out at the end of 2022, for a 2023 release. He did not say where he got the information. The fact that Guzzi/Piaggio are not saying anything is actually very edifying. But you are correct fuse wise. Before the surgery, my V11 would consume 15 Amps fuses like there was no tomorrow. Like there was a fault.
