Hi docc. I have just re-read the decent tune thread that GuzziMoto posted to remind myself what exactly that entails. I've got a bit to look at; I'll keep all y'all updated when I get onto it.

Yeah, that's on the cards, & exactly the post that I was referring to regarding the tune up. I have had the bike serviced relatively recently, so one would hope that this was undertaken when that occurred. It's this excess fuel burning that has me scratching my head. And I don't know if it's in my head, but I can swear that I can smell unburned fuel, especially as I am blipping the throttle when changing down gear. Thank you for your reply. Any thoughts re the lead issue? Cheers

Good evening, comrades As some of you know, I have a faulty V11, the writing on the body says it is a Le Mans, but the ECU declares it a Sport. Is this a Schrodinger's cat scenario? I'm always up for a philosophical discussion on quantum physics, however, at this point, I'd like to have your attention on the following: My V11 Whatever has a rather poor fuel efficiency. I filled the tank the other day (said in a Wayne from Letterkenny way). The odometer read 190km, & the 21-litre tank took 19 litres to fill — a disappointing return, to be sure. I had balanced the throttle bodies, & altered the CO trim from -90 to 0, however, the mileage from a tank of guzzilene has not changed. I contacted a fellow member of the Moto Guzzi Club of Victoria, who is a great source of knowledge & information. I believe he cut his teeth on a Tenni... Anyway, one of his suggestions was to take the leads off the plugs to see what the response was, in terms of engine cutting out. I took off the right lead, & sure enough, the engine cut out after about 10 seconds. Having replaced the lead, & restarting the engine, I removed the left lead, & whilst lumpy, the engine continued to idle without cutting out. What gives? And what does this mean, if anything? Other things that have been suggested (leaving out the tune etc that have been posted numerous times (with a nod to Pete Roper)) in the email reply that I received, & posted below for your consideration. So far, I have only done the leads thing. I routinely put in the fuel cleaner & give it a bit of a blast. I will value any input people have regarding this issue. Cheers innesa

Further to my entry post the replacement, there is still no leak, & we've had some warm days here in Melbourne, & stop/ start traffic being a feature of city driving, but no issues. Yet to tune, however the first tank yielded 190km before the orange light of anxiety came on. Pre breather replacement, it was standard for this to appear at the 150-170km mark. Pushed it out until it started to cough, which was at 210km. Fortunately, I was only about 100m away from a petrol station. Filling the tank saw 20.3 litres go in! Terrible economy, but better with the pipe replaced. I will say too that the orange light was not a very bright one, & in full daylight, was actually difficult to see. I would hate to be out & about, completely miss it, & find myself stranded, but I think now my sphincter starts to pucker around 170km on the odo!

Hello my friends. I’d just like to update y’all on my progress: Thank you for all of the information, & for putting me on to the oil breather hose issue. I referred to the technical issue also found on this forum, & essentially replicated somebody’s idea about the rubber hose, copper angles, & hose clamps. Sprayed some engine degreaser to remove the leaked oil, & went for a bit of a spin. There is no oil leak from the cooler, & I don’t know if it’s in my head, but the bike seems to be running better than it ever has since I’ve owned it. Now for the decent tune!

Thank you for all of the replies, comrades Aussie Guzzisti will likely know who I'm talking about when I say I placed a call to Mario @ Thunderbikes yesterday, re parts, &, I guess in some ways reassuring, also asked if I was sure it was the cooler, as he'd never heard of anybody having an issue with one before. So I will delve further, & find out if the breather hose is indeed the culprit. You are right though - it looks like somebody has slit the throat of something that has oil for blood! Excellent timing too, as I was going to look at it either today or tomorrow. Thanks again, everybody

Thanks guzzler Yeah, I'm getting 150-175 when the orange worry light appears. I had it recommended to me that I should carry around a tin of petrol, & just drain it (the tank) on a ride to see just how far it gets me. Of course, I'm quoting city riding, but I find that I don't get much better on the open road. Do you have a particular mechanic you go to? Are you a member of the MGCoV? Cheers

Hi Gmc28 I have a V11 LM that seems to drink petrol - to the tune of getting ~ 100 miles on a 5 gallon tank. That strikes me as pretty crap fuel economy. It has Agostini pipes on it; I have no idea if it has been chipped or any other voodoo worked on it. When you say a tune is required with the laptop magic, is this something that could potentially rectify the situation? I've had somebody tell me that it should be taken to a dyno, etc, but that's $$$ I don't have. Thanks in anticipation.

IMG_8350.HEICHello V11 Brains Trust I have a 2001 V11 LM, that appears to be haemorrhaging oil from the oil cooler. I am wondering if there is any issue with simply disconnecting the hoses at the sump, replacing them with sump plugs/ similar, & binning the oil cooler altogether? A mate has a Griso, & he decommissioned that bike's oil cooler, however, replaced the hoses with a single much shorter hose, between the two sump ingress/ egress points due to "one-way flow". Is there a similar issue with the LM? Thank you

Hey there p6x. Now I feel like a double goose! Only after re-reading my post after receiving yours, I meant to say gear selection lever, not clutch lever! Sorry. Broke just 'cos my left calf knocked it as the bike was on it's way down! Wha?!

So, there's this thang called Occam's Razor which is sometimes inaccurately paraphrased as "the simplest explanation is usually the best one." Without further ado, is that in this particular chapter of Dead V11, fotoguzzi wins the Occam's Razor award for nominating the kill switch as the culprit. I would also like to nominate myself for eejit of the year award for not checking the kill switch until suggested. I would like to apologise for wasting everybody's time, particularly that of Weegie (Bloody Hell, but those Magni's must be special machines!) for wearing his puir wee fingers to the nubs for typing his essay-like response. And of course, docc, for his input into either my 2nd or 3rd post that he has responded to. My thanks to all, along with that apology. If you need me, I'll be over in the corner, self-flagellating for my stupidity for not checking the kill switch... Ffs!!!

Howdy y'all. How big of a goose do I feel? Was riding out of an alley which serves as a driveway to the apartments that I have recently moved to. Had feet on pegs, which was a problem when I came to a stop, & the bike promptly fell on its right side - minor damages - broken indicator lens, & rocker cover, as well as a broken clutch lever. I know, right? That's the left side of the bike. Turns out that Guzzi clutch levers can be stomped on & cursed out due to the infinite false neutrals, however, when they encounter the mighty innesa calf muscle, it just simply snaps. WTAF?! Anyway, these relatively minor issues have thrown a smokescreen whilst another more sinister issue came to light... Bike dead. Usually when I turn the bike on, there is a noise that emanates out from under the seat, that I've been led to believe is the priming of the fuel pump or something similar. Ignition is in the on position - appropriate dashboard lights come on - however there is no underseat noise. I can hear something like a click (I call it a click, but it isn't a click) from the appropriate area when I turn the ignition on & then again when I turn it off. Fuses & the relays appear to be intact. Managed to get gears into neutral (not a false one). What am I missing, if anything? I look forward to the input from the brains trust of V11 Guzzisti...

I will get on to the main ground immediately, if not sooner. docc, I hope that you didn't take your bike apart just for little old me! But, thank you, as always, for the detailed response. I reckon I could rebuild the thing, if ever I needed to, from your information alone! Cheers everybody.

Hello Tinus89 To answer your questions as asked: No; no; no; yes (I am assuming that is the noise from what sounds like under the seat sort of area); yes Checked what I think you mean about the main ground, which seems to have rectified the problem. The bike starts again!!! I thank you very much for responding.

Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears... I have a non-starting Le Mans. I have recently charged the battery, all the dash lights up, the electrical noise under the seat makes its usual appearance. Press the starter... crickets What the Hell?! Thoughts? I look forward to your input. I had a long ride recently, ~ 1000kms, then parked it. This is now 2 weeks on. I have started it since the ride, but just to turn it over.

Guzzler & Pete Roper, I really appreciate the heads up about those two gents. I will most def check them out. A bit hesitant to take it to PS after I was talking to a Triumph rider who told me they overfilled his oil to the tune of 700mls, & their response to his complaint was basically no response. Pretty damned poor. You trust them with Precious, & it's clear that it ain't so precious to them. Cheers lads.

Thanks docc. Yours is one of the threads that I'd read, & it is certainly comprehensive! I'm just a wee bit nervous about doing stuff that is potentially beyond me, without a watchful eye over to me to stop me from making a terminal error! I'll have another read, go see the Wizard for some courage, & go from there... Wish me luck.

Hello everybody. Long-time reader, first-time poster. Hoping to tap into the wealth of knowledge found through this site. I have recently purchased my 2001 V11 Le Mans, with ~ 81000kms on the clock. Picked it up at a motorcycle retailer. I am unaware of the service history, including any potential mapping. It has Agostini pipes that had the baffles in them, until I located a set of circlip pliers. There is a USB cable up near the dash - already installed (Read: I don't know what function it provides) I have changed the engine oil, gear oil, & Cardan drive oil at this point, with a subsequent reduction to valve/ tappet noise, however, on the first ride, pulling up at traffic lights, the idle would occasionally become "lumpy", almost to the point of stalling. Revs were ~ 1000 on the clock. Did I do anything to contribute to this? And, what can I do to sort it? I've read various forum threads on tune up, etc, but I don't quite feel confident enough to tackle that by myself at present, in case I then have to load it onto a trailer, take it to a place, point to it, & say "Fix that"! Thank you in anticipation.
