Someone needs to rescue that V11 and give it a home. The price is certainly right. Check to see if it has the tranny MG warranty work done on it - can someone please put a reminder post below as to what that was for this model?

My V11 tracks fine with no hands. Is there another ruder you know and trust (pref. a Guzzi owner) who could take your bike out and see if it pulls for him/her? It is staring to sound to me like you do have a problem. The brake pads are not bound up on the right front are they....?

Yeah, I rode this morning. Warmed it up for about 5 minutes before taking off to be nice to the engine. The engine cranked right up with the new orange Odyssey battery, I must say. It had previously been suffering from starting problems due to use of an electric jacket on the V11. Am looking forward to seeing the Nicky Hayden interview on SpeedTV here today (Dec 13th) in the States. New Pro Grips to be installed on the bike later today.

*riding technique topic* I am always open to learing more about riding technique. I am just wondering if people have used "trail braking" (apparently it is the application of front -or- rear brakes under power on a turn) on their V11's? I do know that use of the rear brake on a turn without power being applied is a quick path to a low sider. Specifically I am curious if the careful application of the rear brake (again, under power) it is a way to cut a faster corner in situations where you, um, suddenly need it. Thanks

I am a die hard MG fan but having waited for a speedo part (angle drive) now for 5 months wouldn't anything be an improvement here in North America? BTYW, the last time I was in NYC, I noticed a big Moto Guzzi sign, was probably a dealer though. And I actually found New Yorkers to be exceptionally "nice."

Re; Seattle show. Yes, I will be there on Friday morning to help the VME set up their annual display of vintage motorcycles. I was hoping to see a Griso - sounds like this will not happen from your post. I will try to stop by and meet you. I live in Ballard, have a 2001 V11S. I also want to see the Paul Smart Ducati and drool all over the MV's. Uh, what shop are you referring to in your post? Bob

Still riding in Seattle this time of year - nowadays I cheat with an electric jacket under the leather (and yes it does push the electrical system to its limits). As long as it has not dipped below freezing you'll fine me out there whenever I can get away. The trick is to warm up your left hand on the left cylinder when you get cold! I do not like the crud getting on the bike but I figure they were made to be ridden after all. There is no salting on the roads here that i know of either.

Last night at Thanksgiving here in the U.S. I took a friend out to the garage to admire the V11. He asked to sit on it (no problem) and then said he "used to ride a bike when he was 15" and would love to take it for a spin in a parking lot sometime. I made no reply. He persisted and said "aw, I would only ride at a 5 mph". That caused me to clarify the situation and say "not with this bike - you can try that one over there (a '75 CB400). He ribbed me about 'finding the true limits of our friendship' for 1/2 an hour after that! So I ask, when would you let a buddy ride your bike? Even I would let my V11 owning buddy trade bikes for a few miles.

make sure the bike is not in between gears and is truly in nuetral I once thought my nuetral light was intermittent and could not get my bike started - turns out it was the above problem - rather embarrassing way to spend 5 minutes

I almost did not buy my V11 due to the lack of a good turning radius, and the fact that I hear a scrape when the bike is against the steering lock. I a mtold this is a design defect. To be fair, I do not think the V11's turning radius is bad compared to many other bikes - but I am still often against the locks - should prob grind 'em down

I never use the damper on my 2001 V11S One time after a 6 hour ride at high speed thru the mountains and plains, I used it on a very bumpy stretch, and pulled into a gas station (forgetting the damper was cranked on) and unceremoniously dropped the bike at zero MPH cuz the front end did not respond as expected in the last foot of fwd travel. I have always blamed it on the damper....fortunately no damage to bike. I suppose it could have been high speed hypnosis that caused the drop as i exited the freeway but that was the only time I have ever used the damper. have not bothered to remove it tho. Bob

There are almost no fences on the route up Mt Baker Washington (USA) and I could not help thinking what it would be like to go off the road when alone [as I was] and just land (even if OK) out of sight of anyone passing by. Good reason to carry a cel phone. Re: my earlier post. Somewhat ironically the fatality this summer near that picture occured where there was a fence - actually a 3/4 meter stone wall - on the apex of a near 180 degree hairpin turn. The poor fellow hit the wall at speed and was launched. Of course if there had been no fence the result would have been "briefly" even more dramatic. Needless to say I took this particular turn at a sober speed and walked back when I saw the flowers and notes on the damaged wall. I recall I did not encounter a single other vehicle going down the mtn that day and the road surface was so fresh there were no stripes yet painted. In places it was like a track out in the middle of nowhere.

Van - don't forget the route up Mt Baker here in Washington State (it is a volcano) - it gets fairly steep too. I do not mean to be macabre but this shot was taken about 50' from a fatality that occured when a young fellow missed a turn by himself. BTW, I finally replaced the Mickey Mouse ear mirrors - still seen on this shot from July however.
