  1. Jimbe's response is NOT the norm. Most adapt to the ride and can comfortably tour, but NOT 2-up...(that'll cause another s#$tstorm).
  2. 90 degree tire stems..............I wonder why ANY motorcycles are delivered without them. It's the FIRST farkle I apply, usually at the first tire change. Don't leave home without it
  3. If Veck didn't say it, i was gonna. That's the first thought I get seeing that pic. Get a later apex going dude and practice it. you only have to not see ONE guy coming the other way that tight to the centerline to have a bad outcome.
  4. I'm 6'2" and have toured plenty on mine. I have the pegs dropped a bit and the bars raised, and only ache I ever had was in the left shoulderblade.....dunno why. But on my Honda I get some lower back aches from long touring so on balance I don't think the MG is any worse in terms of capability. Usually do 300-350 mile days when I'm touring, generally little to no highway work. It's not the best long distance highway mount, I'll say that. I'd rather be on my Honda to do long days slogging it out on the interstate.
  5. Well put. I'm sure anybody willing to deal with Guzzis will find a KTM, with whatever issues it comes with, a relative breeze.
  6. take that deal! I also have the full ventura system. It is fabulous, doesn't throw off bad weighting like other systems and holds a lot. It is plenty ugly, so you need to be touring enough to make it worth the esthetic problems, but I use the small rack when I'm not going long..... Which is more bearable. I think the picture of my avatar makes clear how much it messes up the lines of the bike. You'll get a good idea if it's for you from that.
  7. I got pegged for a Hog too..........Bleech. Never say never, but a Harley just ain't in the cards. Dumb test.
  8. been eyeing one very seriously since it came out........have a dealer in the area, he claims he can't get them, they're so in demand. If the the 950SM is so good, I'm wondering just how GREAT the 990 SuperDuke must be......... Should be out by the end of the year here in the US. I'd love a test ride on both...........it seems to fit Guzzi guys very well, these KTM's.
  9. Lotsa balls, and some of the guys on this forum have 'em. Dunno whether the suspension mods will do it all for ya, but it'll help. Scrapin' hard parts of this baby requires cujones larger than mine..........i've scraped some pretty neat bikes, but can't seem to lean this one that far, not even after close to 10K miles. Meanwhile, I'm still plenty fast on it, even without the knee down, spark-flyin' histrionics. Lotsa fun...........
  10. Lovely. enjoy it.
  11. Sunday: choice of bike for morning ride -- V11Scura vs. ST1300. only question to ask -- is it over 50 degrees F. ? The ST is more comfortable, more confident to ride, has more capacity, is faster......... The V11 is entirely different ---- sure, it hops a bit in fast, bumpy stuff.... the engine pinks while passing But i start out at 7AM and go 150 miles on the Scura, and i want 150 more......... F$#K the analysis, that's the truth -- I'll never again sell my Guzzi. It makes me smile. I've never gotten that feeling from really anything else. If you do, that's what you should ride. Most of the guys on this board have the same feeling about their guzzi's, (except of course, for Pete Roper, who just loves a bike that he can get x-country with only duct tape and a pair of pliers) Now, how you gonna compare that to anything ?
  12. Not Ohlins....Not. I spent to have my ohlins rear spring replaced, the shock revalved and the front forks fresh oil.....went to a race specialist to have weight taken with gear, sag and damping front and rear set by the genius and still.......STILL........I can ride my fat ST1300 MORE CONFIDENTLY (if not faster) on all manner of bumpy stuff you speak of. With my Scura, I've got to always trust that it'll stick and ignore the 'feels' I get but with my Honda (and previous BMW), I've never gotten any other feedback but security and a confidence to lean it further. You're missing nothing........unless I'm missing it too. but if you find out.....let me in on it, willya??
  13. I owned an RT and a '95 R, so the ergonomic difference with the Guzzi is very great. It's not nearly as cramped as your standard Japanese sportbike crouch but still a big move from a BMW GS. But, if you're beyond physical problems, the Guzzi should be no issue in comfort. It's a pretty nice all day ride.
  14. I lowered the pegs. When my seat came back from Rich Maund a little raised, I felt uncomfortable and too much "over" the bike. I had the seat reduced to stock height and lowered the pegs, bringing it's own problems but solving my cramp. If you can get 'used' to the stock position though, that's your best bet. Ride until you're absolutely sure you need a change.
  15. you can also drop by the Marcus dairy early sunday morns. Plenty of guzzi nuts there. If you guys are looking for a Guzzi NY ride, count me in!!! Dan
  16. Scura screen is precisely the same with same issue. I was about to add that the laminar lip is NOT the way to fix it, but Miles beat me to it.......just adds ugly, as he says. If you find an aftermarket fix, let the rest of us know.........

    R1200S

I dissent from the crowd here. I need something alternative to the Guzz, and usually have something in the garage that is less 'interesting' to ride.......but also more versatile. I like the new R1200S. Looks like a hot bike with controllable power that'll be dependable. I've owned a couple of BMW's.....they usually got a lot going for them. If I was in the market for a sportbike to add to the stable (I'm not, unless I lose a gear and rid myself of my Guzzi), I'd put the Beemer real close to the top. It's the kind of bike that usually gets me .... Fast enough, comfy enough, weird enough, dependable enough, and big enough for me at my age. dan
  18. great time. I'm jealous. Get a new pair of tires before you go out again. That pair look shredded.
  19. You said it, brother........... Couldn't agree more.
  20. Number 381. First spring went at a bit over 5K. Actually replaced the pawl arm at that time WITHOUT checking the boss size. Turned out I replaced the arm with another incorrect 16mm part. (Lucky guy...........) HEY! What's the chance!! You got a ST1300 as your second bike like me! I think it's the PERFECT pair of motorcycles..........you got the above 70 degree bike and the below 70degree bike. The long distance mile crusher and the fun curve crasher. How many people in the world you think have a V11 and an ST together? Must be a long shot! Dan
  21. Ok , 2nd spring went with 9K on my SCURA clock, this one lasted only 3k. this time, put in pawl arm from the parts list of a ballabio, on the advice of Todd Haven of MPH cycles. checked for sure...15mm boss instead of the Scura 16mm. Also, as overkill, installed the Racetech guzzi spring.....whether it is 'heavy duty' or not, it looks a little more substantial. IF that spring ever breaks again.........I'm calling it quits.........but by all accounts, it should be permanently sorted. Dan
  22. Oh Morris! I had an '85 T5 as well!!! wow, what a good 'un that was................ Welcome and best of luck with the 'new' one.
  23. Lemme know if you need another voice at MG or MGNA. I'll gladly add my concerns
  24. that's bee-yoooo-ti-ful
