Marzocchi, yes. @bbolesaz I did not. I had to use that technique on a recent fork rebuild on my 1982 GL500. For the V11, I merely laid the fork on the bench, and it easily came out using an allen-wrench and an extension for leverage.
-
@bbolesaz see #11 thread post, where I confirm, yes to a DIY repair. In retrospect, it's rather easy, no special tools required.
-
@GuzziMoto thank you. I wish I knew about blocking the bypass holes when I had these apart, replacing the seals. Due to a continued seal leak, I still have the right fork apart, would only blocking this side help or hinder?
-
"Also, I am planning to create a pinned topic specifically for the 2003 Carryover Sport." …just for me!
-
Marchozzi, from the owner's manual, 3 clicks anti-clockwise from fully seated is the stock setting, as I understand it.
-
…mine (2003 V11s) is external fuel pump, tank pad, white gauges.
-
I'm going to change my signature to include this important designation, early. Thanks @docc.

Okay, I'll bite. What is the tranny recall and how do I know if my 2003 V11 had it done?
-
So on further inspection, I find the slider has a small nick. It's only about 2 inches from the top so the seal will not ride over it. However to insert into the seal, I'll need to not nick the seal, which is what may have happened upon my prior assembly, thus the leak. I'll smooth the nick out best I can, then carefully reassemble.

thanks for the link @footgoose. Your first link is exactly the size what I bought.
-
okay, sounds like I got the correct seals, 40mm for my Marchozzi forks. thx!
-
@docc, so I should be buying 43mm for my 2003. Listings have confused me, as they seem to suggest 40mm. I ordered 40 and installed 40. Confused. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803348185096.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.68231802nrnqfM&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CL3YNGG/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Being anxious, I ordered a set from each. Both list 40mm
-
Is this assessment correct? 43mm forks, but when ordering seals, some sites list the correct number as 43mm, others 40mm. I suspect some sites are using the slider measurement vs the tube measurement. So both are correct, 43mm/40mm.

Removed the forks and replaced the seals this past weekend, totally DIY for most of us. I spent far too much time trying to decipher the Factory Manual method. Basically, remove the fork, unscrew the allen in the base and apart it comes. The most difficult part is the snap-ring. It really took some bugging to get it out. Flat head worked on one, a dental pic on the other. I let the pieces drain overnight and am glad I did, big puddle in the morning. Upon resemble, I replaced the fork-oil saturated brakes pads as well. Took it for a ride and whew-hoo! Proper suspension and stopping! And to remain humble, the right side still leaks! I'm so disappointed. I really wanted to ride it to work this week. Especially after the terrific feeling test ride. So, I removed it once again, and inspected. Everything looked correct, nothing blatent anyway. Not sure why it still leaks. I reordered new seals (Amazon, $7) just to be sure and will replace the right one again when they arrive.

Wow, near new bike, no miles! Great deal for someone. Should anyone buy it from the forum, and want to sell the rear rack, please let me know. Thanks!

The top end difference is so noticeable when comparing the two. One would think at 80mph, nothing more is really needed, but in SoCal, we do. Since Covid (not exactly sure why), the fast lane is 90+, all day, everyday. It wasn't all that long ago, 7mph was my default for going over the limit, speeding ticket safe. It almost seems the police are never out any longer. On the V7, it's difficult for me to stay in the carpool/fast lane, as I don't like to go over 80-85mph. The V11, however …whew, love this throttle!

After reading this thread, I see now, it's not just me. I'll attempt this front Zerk again this weekend, maybe helping myself by lifting the bike to allow the rear wheel to hang down a bit. If this doesn't allow me to get in there, I'll use this as an excuse to visit fellow forum member @Scud as he is just down the coast from me.
-
Thank you all, non-adjustable! This is my second Guzzi and it snatches a bit more than my V7. Having already flushed all fluids, I'll start working on more delicate hand activity.

I wanted to mention once more now that they have arrived, my success with AliExpress. I wish it were an American company, but being honest, this is where so many vendors purchase their stock anyway. Going direct allows for a huge savings. I have yet to install these parts but once arrived, I was genuinely impressed with the quality of each. Complete brake pad set, $30 https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804604782807.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.3a6d18025VMQOQ&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US Fork & dust seal set, 40mm, $12 https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803348185096.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.0.0.79ea1802E2kpC4&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US

I spotted the grease nipples on the shaft and tended to them. I searched the other end (motor side) and saw nothing. Later when reading I see there is a nipple on the motor side. After wedging my fingers in there, I felt it. But how to get to it? Removing the shield for better access seems just as difficult.
-
When I release the clutch lever, it snaps into engagement. It's only a smooth transition if I feather the throttle. Is there a way to lesser the grab a bit? I looked and looked through the service manual, but no adjustment instructions what so ever.
-
I finally installed my shift extender, makes a difference, improves shifting for sure. I still have to dial it in though, I'm not sure which way, extend or shorten the throw rod.

@RacerX I love GuzziTech, seriously, such a fan! I did actually look at your store, but IIRC, there wasn't everything I needed, and I was hoping for a one-stop shop. I actually rode the V11 to work today, first time. Maybe I'll swing by, hope to see you! As for supporting you, until recently, I only owned the 2010 V7 and even now with 22k on the clock, it has never needed anything. As for hop-up parts, it had everything when I bought it; suspension, ignition, exhaust, tuning. I'd love the 850 cylinders you offer, but they cost as much as I paid for the bike, lol. If truth be told, I'm so disappointed with MG Cycle's customer service, I'm returning most everything. Their online selection and pricing lured me in, but I needed some hand-holding (I asked twice) and they didn't. They failed at getting me everything; I can't complete the forks or the brakes. Rather than make another order for missing items, I went elsewhere.
