That Quota has one helluva shine on it, it's like a mirror. Must be a ceramic coating.

Mick, as far as I know, anything goes here in the US. If you can put apehanger bars on your Harley, all else is just just a mild tweak.
-
Just got back from hiking three Utah NP's. Did a fair amount of driving and noticed all the bikes. Great cruising roads! Most of the bikes were Harleys and BMW's. Lots of of dirty GS's. Never saw a Guzzi.

I've never had a passenger on a bike with clip ons, so I see your points about adding more weight when your arms are already loaded a bit would not be good. Sitting upright on a BMW RT or a Stelvio seems to change that a bit. Does a pillion find long rides comfy with a bike with clip ons? IDK. Or even the rider? I know I never did, that's why I got the Beemer way back when, and now a Stelvio.

Clinching the legs goes without saying. The hands anywhere never bothered me. I had a pillion for years that was quite busty...didn't matter where her hands were, I always felt her on my back...kinda liked it.

Has she tried to put her hands on your shoulder blades during braking? The component of force she exerts is braced by the line of your arms on the bars and might be enough to keep bodies colliding. Panic stops might be too much for this tactic, but with regular braking it would help. I ride completly different with someone behind me because of necessity and to make them as comfy as possible.

Yeah, that gearbox has an odd patina. Tire age would be another good indicator. 2k miles might have originals on, and date stamp could confirm that.

Meaning of the markings visible throught the right hand side viewport?

Pulling the plugs is also helpful because you can use a straw to zero in on TDC proximity. -
What's really sad is these bikes always pop up 3000 miles away.

Thats one way to get those unis greased... -
Yep, I agree. Right now I am just brainstorming what to do...can't put it back the way it is now, there is not full articulation. My hunch is possibly the manufacture and dimensions of these zerks has changed a bit since the 2018 link. I'll work it out somehow.
-
I'm going to try these. No doubt about it, the ebay ones rub the inside of the yoke at the tip of the nipple. I'll post up a pic to show. Maybe someone can spot something I did wrong. https://www.fittings.space/ssg21-m8x10m-90 If they swing too close to the cross recess, I'll grind down a nut to serve as a spacer.
-
Very kind offer, but I think I ordered the same ones as you...from fitting.space, right? They seem too big, and you can't use the old ones because they are smaller threaded holes in the original Unis. I got the ebay link off of your post from 2018 I think.

Well I got them done. One cross was done the barbaric way with a 4" steel cutting wheel. The other i got out by pressing the cups side to side three or four times and lubing them so they had less resistance. I then drove the cups as far apart as I could with a hammer and punch. You always have a hammer on the bench, right? I still needed a tiny bit more room to slip the cross out. I was able to knock the needle bearings out of place with a small screwdriver and let them fall in the bottom of the cup. That provided me with some more space to press the cups further apart. Then the crosses came out. The rest was easy. I couldn't have done this without the press. Cutting them out was faster but needed precision cutting on the first cut. Pressing, hitting and fiddling took longer. The press was needed for both methods. Now my next dillema. The grease zerks I got are still too big. Can't use those old ones because thread is too small for the new crosses. I have to find smaller ones, not sure if they are available., but I'll make something work. Don't want to go to plan B. Don't even want to tell you what plan B is.

Any way to lube that stuff when its out? I have always used DriSlide for cables, still have a can from the 80's with a bit in it. To my surprise, they still sell it today. Good product.

The swealtering heat in the Southwest....
activpop replied to p6x's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Hey, you're cooler than us! 104° today with smokey haze from fires. Yesterday was 106...a nice cooling trend is upon us. -
I got one done yesterday, had to cut one joint side with a cutting wheel. Then the other half of it cut easily because nothing was in the way. The first cut needs to be precise otherwise you can nick the joint body. It certainly was no fun. 106°today, too hot to work in the shop. The other one needs to get done in the AM tomorrow before it heats up. Wish I had a Norwegian shop.

This one is back up again. Unfortunately gearbox recall was never performed. https://albany.craigslist.org/mcy/d/sharon-springs-moto-guzzi-v11-sport/7652340506.html

Ironically that was going to be my next move. Seems a little barbaric. Even the shop manual ignores this. I tried drilling through and end cap. I think they were made on Krypton...no can do. Thanks docc! You've given my weekend purpose. I'll be glad when this is behind me. Somebody wasn't thinking ahead on this one.
