Well my spark plug trick won't work on the front axle of my V11...too big. I have the 14 mm allen it needs though. Won't have time to put the tires on until after Christmas. Hoping for some sunny days to heat my tires up.

I'm talking about the old style with the pointer on a graduated gauge...remember them?
-
Agree. I just thought that was a nifty way to MacGyver it if you didn't have the right allen...if it was the right size. I'm set on torque wrenches, the only way to go. I wish I had my old Craftsmen torque wrench from the 70's. Would like to see how accurate it was compared to todays preset and digital ones. Lent it out and never got it back.😞

I have an axle removing tool with various sizes for big allen sizes. Haven't done my front tire yet so i don't have it in my head what size the allen is, but would this work? https://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/removing-female-hex-on-an-axle/

Saw a You Tube video on changing oil filter. Had me scratching my head. They used a Bosch filter with an applied sticker on the can's painted exterior finish. The filter I got from MG cycle looked like it had a plain zinc coated exterior, which seems very suitable for being bathed in oil. Also they lubed both sides of the filter gasket, which goes against what I read here. Dont believe everything on YT.

Whoa Nellie! After reading that 2006 post I think I'm going back to just working on Briggs and Strattons.

Lagrasta, When I change the tire I'll be doing everything I can on the rear before installing wheel again. I'll get grease in there one way or another...I hope!
-
Red...guess I'll find out why.

And now for something completely different...I did my first V11 oil change...nice ritual doing the filter. Also drained all the fuel and put in a couple gallons non E. Who knew how long those fluids have been sitting in there with the bike last registered in 2015. Google is my friend. With no manuals yet I questioned how to check oil level on this bike with no center stand. Many old posts from this site popped up. Got it dialed in because of all the info here. Can't wait to tackle the driveline zerks. 😳

Is it too late to get in on this?

Back from DMV...guy looked it up on his screen and confirmed it is a 2004. I mentioned the tenth digit on the VIN...he said that isn't always right. Alrighty then...new title will have 2004 also. Can't fight city hall. It is all legal and registered to me now.

Ok, found some 170's...some distributors were out of stock, found one that had them. I will consider the 160...need to do some more research.
-
Interesting...i did a search on this site for info and nothinig came up, but searched the web and got two old post here. Both stated 170 tire. Why cant I find one available now? Looked at Pirelli first, than Michelin, no go.

My 2001 V11 has a 12 year old 170 60 ZR17 tire on it. In looking to replace it, I find that size is not available. Since I have no user or shop manuals yet, what tire size should I be purchasing?
-
I'll probably do my version of that. I have a length of 1" braided nylon line that I loop around the fork head tree on my Ducati and attach it to a come along attached to barn truss. When the bike is on the center stand I can pull the front end up for a tire change. No center stand on the V11, but the BT will do the job of that. I have Pit Bull stands, but it's nicer working with nothing in your way.

Also got the order in from Stein Dinse for the Becker Technik stand. This seems like the best way for a rear tire change.

Shop manual and parts catalogs are on their way! Still looking for user manaul and original key blanks.

Srike my last sentance from the record. As I previously noted, the 10th digit is a 1, and we all agree on the year. I might find out Monday at DMV why the title was printed 2004. They know what the 10th digit means... one would think... and they issued the title.
-
Dont think he is like that, not with the business he is in...but still a lot to untangle.
-
Yep, exact match. Date on headstock is 6/2000. So model year could be 2001, but no later. I wonder if it is really a 2000. [ Haha, well: successful "strike my last sentence" edit! I'm giving myself a raise! ]

There is a story to this bike and i wont get the straight story from the seller, that's for sure. He bought it 4/08, per bill of sale, and the title is dated 3/09, but the title is still in the original sellers name. The mileage typed in on the front of the title says 9843, but written in on the back where it when it was transferred is 11,283. Registration expired in 2015, so how did my seller register it without a title in his name? I dont have a clue. And even more bewildering is the title says 2004 bike, but both VIN and you guys say it is a 2001, which I agree with. How did that happen? Don't have a clue. Front tire is from 2004 so that is maybe just a coincidence, with the milage on this bike idk if it was changed after just three years of minimal riding, but could have been a road hazard. DMV says I am good to go with my bill of sale which I have. They will retitle and register it for me with normal fees. I will ask them about the year though. A lot of questions about this thing but it sure is pretty. Hopefully getting it for $2700 will soften the pain of any surprises.

Is the real thing still obtainable?

I never had a bike without a center stand, sure makes it harder to perform service. What is a paddock stand I can consider? I can harness the front end to a truss and raise it off the floor for front end work, but the rear has to be stabilized to do that. Tires and fluids are first on the list. Blown away that the front tire is original...and the ad said good rubber. That was some BS. I'll do a search but a shop manual is also first on the list, so I am open to suggestions. Thanks!

Bike is now home with me and I got it for what I think is an unbelievable price. Guy wanted it gone and nobody was calling...except me. Has me wondering a bit if there is something I didnt catch. Is there a tutorial for posting pics? Keep getting message the pics are too big.
