Srike my last sentance from the record. As I previously noted, the 10th digit is a 1, and we all agree on the year. I might find out Monday at DMV why the title was printed 2004. They know what the 10th digit means... one would think... and they issued the title.

Yep, exact match. Date on headstock is 6/2000. So model year could be 2001, but no later. I wonder if it is really a 2000. [ Haha, well: successful "strike my last sentence" edit! I'm giving myself a raise! ]

There is a story to this bike and i wont get the straight story from the seller, that's for sure. He bought it 4/08, per bill of sale, and the title is dated 3/09, but the title is still in the original sellers name. The mileage typed in on the front of the title says 9843, but written in on the back where it when it was transferred is 11,283. Registration expired in 2015, so how did my seller register it without a title in his name? I dont have a clue. And even more bewildering is the title says 2004 bike, but both VIN and you guys say it is a 2001, which I agree with. How did that happen? Don't have a clue. Front tire is from 2004 so that is maybe just a coincidence, with the milage on this bike idk if it was changed after just three years of minimal riding, but could have been a road hazard. DMV says I am good to go with my bill of sale which I have. They will retitle and register it for me with normal fees. I will ask them about the year though. A lot of questions about this thing but it sure is pretty. Hopefully getting it for $2700 will soften the pain of any surprises.

I never had a bike without a center stand, sure makes it harder to perform service. What is a paddock stand I can consider? I can harness the front end to a truss and raise it off the floor for front end work, but the rear has to be stabilized to do that. Tires and fluids are first on the list. Blown away that the front tire is original...and the ad said good rubber. That was some BS. I'll do a search but a shop manual is also first on the list, so I am open to suggestions. Thanks!

Bike is now home with me and I got it for what I think is an unbelievable price. Guy wanted it gone and nobody was calling...except me. Has me wondering a bit if there is something I didnt catch. Is there a tutorial for posting pics? Keep getting message the pics are too big.

212-380-4400 Piaggio customer service. They can give you all the info on open or closed service campaigns. They were very helpful for me on in investigating three 2001's. Scott is who I dealt with the most.

Sorry for the redundancy. I found this bike indirectly through Joe by accident, and coincidence. Joe posted about that greenie for sale in WA on CL, and I searched for the ad again. I entered CL Tri Cities, where it was advertised on, and Tri Cities TE came up and there it was. Who knew that two low milage same year V11's would come up for sale...one in WA, one in TE, both with the Tri Cities moniker. I spoke to both owners and have both VIN's if they are wanted by anybody. If I remember correctly neither one had warranty work done, or at least work that was recorded.

I spoke to the owner a few times, asked him if he could give me the VIN to check on recall. He never knew anything about it and sent it to me. Piaggio said no recall work was on record. Front and rear tires were original and bike wasn't run since 2006. He cleaned injectors and tank, put new battery in and started it up. He said he has had it on the the road and it runs fine. I asked about the tires and he said they're fine, good rubber and he doesnt go fast. I asked whether he changed the oil and he said it has less than 5k on it...wow! I'm a bit of an oil and tire nut so I was blown away by his answers. Each to his own I guess. The bike was purchased by him at an estate sale. I would have made the run to get it but not without recall being done. Four hour drive. And in spite of it having good rubber and oil, I would have brought the trailer...lol.

Some are dead, some are not able to be located. What blows me away is all the present owners I talk to didn't have a clue about this. Are the majority of V11 owners whose bikes fall under this campaign just gambling? I dont want a bike for my living room, I want to ride it.

I have been looking for a V11 to buy and have found a few close to me. One seems to have had the service done, Piaggio is still digging on that one for better confirmation and one does not have any recorded info on the service, just warranty registration in 2002. Is the tranny repair something that still can be done? I would figure parts might be hard to come by. I could pull the trigger on a low milage greenie, but wont take the risk without the repair.

And while we're on it, there is a low milage V11 on CL near Tri Cities TE. Dont have the link but you can search it...it has Rizoma bars mounted in place of the clip ons. I guess that required some drilling and tapping?

You guys are something else!! Thanks for that, but right now I'm waiting on Piaggo to get me some info. Coincidentally, I'm checking out that greenie up in Pasco. Same problem...VIN falls into recall catogory. I'll check that number with them tomorrow. That one is a few hours away and comes with a story that I will fill you in on when all this is settled. The greenie is in much better shape, at least from the pics. The Nero is a little tired looking in person.

I did not. Combined tire age of 40 years with wet roads and 40 degree temps was out of my comfort zone. He rode it up and down by me and almost lost the rear pulling out of the driveway. IDK if i would have noticed anything unusual since Guzzi has the reputation of clunkier trannys than a Ducati, which is all I have to compare it too.

Called NHTSA...no info on work performed. Called Aprilia...they have minimal info but guy is digging further. He said he will call Italy to possibly find more. The only campaign info he could find so far is something performed in 2004 and the term "flexible coupling hose" was used. He said he should report back tomorrow. I think that part is in the tranny, so we'll see.

I filled out required info. Said no recall campaigns are pending for this vehicle. I assume that means that they have been taken care of? I also assume if it was the original purchaser they would have been easier to notify.

Why? Isn't it a risk without knowing if recall work was performed? Might have to wait until Monday for that.

OK, I have VIN and will need to check out tranny recall since the opinion is this is not a 2004 as advertised and maybe a 2000 or 2001. The last seven digits are M113182. I think that falls in the range of the recall if i am reading all the info and numbers right. Can anyone confirm that for me? Does that confirm that this is not a 2004?
