I bought this bike new in 2002. It’s only been ridden by me and has been garaged all of its life. After about 32K miles I decided to give it a complete rebuild. Since the rebuild I’ve ridden less than 2000 miles. It's now a unique machine - an 8-valve engine (ex-Daytona) V11 extra dark Scura. For a V11 it is seriously swift, and the exhaust tone is awesome.
The work consisted of:
• Complete bottom-up rebuild
• Engine swapped for a re-built ex-Daytona 4 valve (per-cylinder), upped to 1105cc
• Oil pump replaced with Das Motec billet item (with needle roller bearings), gears replaced with steel items by Joe Caruso
• Front frame modified to accommodate the 4-valve engine
• Raceco camshafts
• Frame, wheels, brake levers, engine and various other parts powder coated satin black
• Wheels powder coated gloss grey
• Hydraulic reservoir mountings fashioned in alloy and zylan-coated
• Footpegs zylan-coated, with raised parts bare to accentuate the "grenade" look
• Carbon rear hugger
• All fixings replaced with stainless items
• Ohlins rebuilt
• Sideplates powder coated "Jaguar Red"
• Replaced all brake and oil hoses, banjos and fittings with Goodrich stainless items
• Raceco-style exhaust stainless downpipes by MHP
• Factory Titanium cans
• Removed pillion pegs and hangars - replaced by alloy hangars without pillion pegs (this bike is for one - no-one else!
• Seat base modified with integral rear light cluster
• Rounded-off swing-arm ends
• Indicators replaced with small multi-LED units
• MG decals redesigned in gloss black against the satin black bodywork
The collage below is low res - hi res pictures are available if you want them. The bike is taxed, MOTd to August and available for road test by serious enquirers - includes personalised number plate GU51GUY.£9500.00
PM me for more details and location -
I've just had a complete rebuild done on my V10 Centauro, including six-speed gearbox, V11 swing arm and wider rear wheel. Frame, engine and gearbox powder coated satin black. Only problem I now have is sourcing a speedo angle drive for the gearbox - local suppliers have none and apparently Guzzi have stopped making them! Anyone got one for sale or know where I might be able to get one from?

Hi Robin.
Just to let you know the V11 Sport is going great and is here to stay I think.
Just done one thing to it, had some bar end weights made to get rid of that bloody vibration.
100% better now and everyone that see's it remarks what a good job you and Bruce did.
Regards.
Jim
All down to Bruce's abilities - he's a wizard with Guzzis, and his attention to detail is awesome!

Hmmmm. That makes Robin's project more intriguing after reading that post - or am I missing something obvious?
What happened to Robin's rebuild?
Different bike. Bruce had the newly powder coated engine casings for the Scura in his garage when I bought the V11 in June.
My bike ...
Many apologies for the long absence - the bike builds (V11 and V10) are nearing completion and I'll be posting more information and pics once Bruce sends me the pics he's taken. Meanwhile, if you're interested have a look at my Nissan Skyline R33 GTR rebuild videos on YouTube - type "RIPS BORG" into the YouTube search box - I'm Borg, and the car is "The Borg". there are about 13 videos available - had a great time in New Zealand (where the work is being done)

I bought my MGS01 way back in 2005 and got it road legal for daytime use in the UK. It was a truly magnificent machine, but I have to say that having been designed specifically for racing, it was quite frankly horrible on the road!
I met Giles Fairclough at the Festival of a Thousand Bikes at Mallory Park back in 2007. Giles had been riding his own Guzzi in the Thunderbike series, and the previous year (2006) had won 'Best Rookie'. I was so impressed with Giles' riding ability, and his all-round really good attitude that I offered my MGS for him to race in the next year's Thunderbike. Bruce Rawsthorne prepped the bike, making a really fine job of it. I had some extra body panels made to spare the originals in case of any whoopsies. Giles rode the bike at about 5 meets during 2008, and did incredibly well, getting something like 6 or 7 firsts, and a second (which he admitted was the result of him forgetting that he had a sixth gear!)
Tragically Giles crashed on his own bike during a track day at Cadwell that summer, and never recovered from his injuries. He left a hole that no-one could fill. I sold the MGS to a chap in Holland - he's racing it there now.

Part 1
Way back in May 2002 I was riding my California III, which I’d owned for 9 years, when I happened to call in to Motorcycle City in Portsmouth (England) – just to see what they had on show – you know how it is! As I walked into the showroom I saw the Scura – my jaw hit the floor, and I put a deposit on it there and then.
By the beginning of June I had sold the Cali and was riding the roads of Hampshire and Sussex on the Scura. All my bikes have had names, and the Scura continued the tradition as Lucia.
Lucia and I covered nearly 15000 miles in the first 18 months of our marriage – the vast majority of those miles being weekend and evening pleasure riding – you know the sort of trips – from A to A by the longest route!
I had some ‘moments’ – a couple of spills, the first resulting in a plate on my collar bone, the second bending the plate and giving me a permanent ‘left-hand-down’ appearance but fortunately no loss of mobility.
The years rolled by, and Lucia became my daily commuter bike as well as my weekend pleasure machine. We travelled in Europe, went camping, and I never tired of the fun we had together. I made a few minor changes over the years, such as fitting factory race cans and chip, a carbon hugger and alternator cover, but apart from that Lucia just soldiered on.
In late 2008 I noticed that Lucia was beginning to show signs of wear – a bit of corrosion here and there, getting slightly crusty around the edges, and there were increasingly clanky noises coming from the engine and gearbox. I decided that it was time to give her a bit of attention. My good friend Bruce Rawsthorne had been maintaining my race MGS01 (ridden brilliantly by Giles Fairclough) and I asked him if he’d be interested in rebuilding Lucia – he was instantly extremely enthusiastic and before long had taken her home to start the transformations.
The work started here - more later!

I'm having my Scura completely rebuilt, the main feature being the engine which is now an 1100cc 4-valve. I'd like to share some of the detail and pictures with the Forum - is this the place to do it?

Thanks peeps - removed the switch and it was in a sorry state - connector head bent and loose, plunger badly worn and stiff. So I fitted the new switch and all is well
Thanks all for your help.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - I did a search but couldn't find a similar problem.
I've just bought the bike (V11 Sport, V reg). The neutral light wasn't working, so I checked the bulb and it was OK. Then checked the switch and found that it had been disconnected. Reconnected and the light works, but stays illuminated all the time, in all gears as well as neutral. No starting problems - everything else works as it should. Is this a typical neutral switch failure, or is it something more obscure like a permanent earth somewhere. I've bought a new switch, so will be fitting it to see if it works properly, but wanted to ask in advance so that I can do the job with a degree of expectation one way or the other!
Thanks guys.

Hello people
Looking to get a set of clip ons as the previous owner put bar risers on it. Looking to grab some of that handling back by getting some additional weight over the front wheel.
Done a search on the net and found these Harris Clip Ons and wondered if anyone has experience with them. Don't want to buy anything outwith Europe due to high import duty and taxes. Been stung before by buying stuff from USA. Any alternatives worth a mention?
Cheers ears
we're using Harris Clipons on the MGS01 in Thunderbikes - simply to retain the originals in case of spills. They work well!

Shipping my bike to NZ in a few months. Not sure who to trust with it so wondered if any of you have ever used an international shipper you'd be happy to recommend?
I sent my Skyline out to NZ last year - used Planetwide (01268-530600). The car arrived safe and sound - no problems. Are you thinking of bringing your bike back to UK in the future? I ask because there are some significant HMRC regulations regarding export and import which you need to be aware of Email me off-forum if you want more info.

... - but it doesn't seem the place for carbon fiber. Each to his own in this case.
Had the same prob with my Scura - got a CF cover from Corsa Italiana and it looks excellent - STR it cost about £100 - pricey, but has kept its good looks for over 3 years now. Of course, the Scura comes stock with a lot of CF, so it DOES seem the place for it! Plus - it has stainless bolts, so they came out with no probs!
Bridgepress (where did you get that name from?!?) if you want contact details for Corsa Italiana let me know.

I missed Saturday but was there on Sunday - race results were:
Sat 1 - 17th on grid, 4th under the flag
Sat 2 - front grid, first away and held to the flag
Sun 1 - front grid, first away and held to penultimate lap then dropped to 2nd under the flag - reason? - he forgot he had a 6th gear out of the final bend!!!
Sun 2 - front grid, first away and held to the flag (save for a short-lived altercation on the 7th lap!).
Oh yes - forgot to say that the Sun 1 race saw Gyles set a new lap record for Thunderbikes - uckin' fawesome!!!
-
Guzzibun, that you loan your bike for racing. Not many would do that. But exciting it is.
I bought a thoroughbred racer - what is the sense in keeping him in the stable? Exciting it definitely is!!!
-
Any race report on the Snetterton round. I see Gyles did VERY well.

Gyles is a very good rider, sympathetic to the bike, but very competitive. Next race is Brands first weekend in May - be there or miss out! Said it before, elsewhere, but once again - give the right bike to the right rider and you get the right result.

a skyline too? jesus, can I live in your garage and just buff for food, I don't take up much room
Providing you can cook I don't see a problem - I'm crap with a cooker - usually exist on ready meals and pictures of bikes and cars!
-
ah come on now, bend it back out, lil spit, shoe polish, she'll buff right out
I'm also jealous as you own my dream bike, the one if presented with two doors behind one door the Desmosedici and the other the MGS-01 well I can't lie I'd take the desmo BUT only for one season of riding, sell it and buy the MGS-01(the true dream) a Stelvio, and a car
Yeah - I fell in love the first time I saw him at Intermot, back in 2002 - ordered one then and there! Now he's racing in this year's Thunderbikes (not me in the saddle - I'm too fragile!!!) Picture is of him in 'the right colour'.
Did Stelvio in 2004 on a cali 1100 - WHAT A BLAST! If you haven't done it, you MUST.
You said 'car' - my other love is The Borg - a '97 R33 Skyline, which is currently being 'upbuilt' to RB30 engine with upgraded turbos and nitrous - 0-60 in 3 secs, 0-100 in 6 secs - sometimes two wheels just aren't enough!
-
Looks like a cartoon bike being shy or a bit coy.
Yes - I guess it does - if ramming a car at 45mph can be considered shy or coy!!! But I can see the funny side - the expression on the drivers face as I bounced off his windscreen was priceless!!!

Answer:
She was originally a Spada III, heavily transformed, using LeMans tank and seat, V7 side panels, Sport 1100 engine, Tomaselli clipons, Terozzi rear-sets, Borani rims and LeMans fairing. The picture was taken at Pietro's (well done GuzziRider!)
Future work was to have been larger pipes and cans (to accommodate the greater capacity of the 1100) and better fenders. I'd also intended to put Brembo Goldlines on her, but alas we became the victim of an old git in his Gitwagon R - the last thing I remember hearing before the ambulance arrived was "Sorry - I didn't see you!"

1200 USD? I guess thats in the ball park I'm in no hurry but I think it will be worth while. I'll be much happier if you ship it to Western Australia has anyone bothered to ask Guzzi what the geniune stuff costs? CF is usally around 1and 2/3rds to doubble the price. Logically the moulds are the expensive time consuming bit and the price is dependant on how many pannels you expect to get off the mold so obiously the MGS will be relatively low volume so they would expect them to be pricer than say a set of R1 pannels. Find out its always worth knowing.
Oh I also have found that the lap time beacon kit that integrates with the dash is a fairly common race car item that is avaliable for about half the price the Guzzi factory is asking. http://www.compsystems.com.au/index.php?op...9&Itemid=42 oz link obiously but hopefully helpful.
Haha - sorry for the mistake re location! I'll enquire the price for plastic and for CarbonFibre, and let you know.

Robin

V11 Sport Scura - 8-valve engine (4 per cylinder)
in Personal Ads
Posted
68C - yes - pick a number - 4 or 8. No offence taken to be sure - sorry for any confusion - and thanks for suggesting modifying the post - I've done that. It is a V11 Sport Scura, with an ex-Daytona 8 valve motor, similar to the motor in my V10 Centauro but slightly larger capacity.
Docc - no need to take the post down, I think it's sufficiently de-confused now
Steve S - I'll find out details and let you know.
