  1. Hi Everyone, I started riding dirt bikes in the 1970's when I was 12. In high school I rode an RM 250 and later a Husqvarna 390. When I was 18 I bought my first street bike, a Honda CB750F. I hadn't owned a motorcycle for the past 20 years until about 18 months ago when I purchased a 2017 V9 Bobber. I then found Great Deal after Great Deal (6 Moto Guzzi's at an estate sale, a 2016 V7 from a friend, 3 Harley Davidsons at crazy low prices from a guy dumping them for a land deal, and a showroom condition 2015 Triumph Thunderbird Storm from the original owner with 220 miles on it) so that I now have 14 motorcycles! The idea is that I'll sort them all out and keep what I like for the long term and sell the rest to cover the costs. For now it appears the Keepers are: 1970 Ambassador, 1980 V50II, 1989 LeMans, 2002 LeMans, 2016 V7 and 2017 V9. I'm unsure about the Harleys, as they are not yet road worthy due to sorting out a few odds and ends. I'd eventually like to add a Griso and Audace after selling off the non-keepers. I have 2 boys, ages 29 and 30, and a 7 year old daughter. All are enthusiasts! My wife is obviously a very understanding individual, and started this whole thing a few years ago when she innocently stated that she'd like to learn how to ride a motorcycle, unaware of my past and the passion for the hobby that has been reignited.
  2. For some reason I had not been able to find them myself searching on MG Cycle. The link was very helpful and I ordered the parts. Thanks again!
  3. Thanks to Pete Roper and PJPRO1. I have read the tuneup instructions and will get to that but don't have what I need to balance the cylinders yet. I'll check that link. Thanks again!
  4. I'll try to find the name of the epoxy I had in mind. It is popular for bonding sailboat hulls to decks and I've had good luck with it for a variety of materials. There is a hardening and non-hardening version of it available.
  5. Phil, thank you for this insight. I thought if need be I'll fill in the cracks as best I can with non-hardening epoxy and try to reinstall and line them up better.
  6. Now that my auction-find 2002 LeMans is running (after replacing the fuel pump and a bad relay and thanks to the guidance of those on this forum), I find that it seems to be running lean. The rubber connections (I'm not even sure what to call them) between the throttle body and intake are poorly fitted, hard, and cracked. I'd like to purchase new ones, but wanted to find out if there was a preferred source for these. I can check with the regular Guzzi vendors, but thought there might be A Guy (like I found there was for relays) that can supply them. Thank you! BTW, I was unfamiliar with M4 exhaust systems but love the sound of their slip-on's on this bike. They allow all the right sounds to come through but are overall surprisingly quiet.
  7. I went with the shop Lucky Phil posted a link to above. They have a cover with no seams or piping that appears to be a good match for the original for 100 Euros. With shipping from France to Texas it all translated to about $142.00. I'll post pictures when it's on the bike. Thanks again for the assistance!
  8. Yes, the headlight goes out when cranking the starter motor.
  9. With the awesome assistance of the folks in this site, I seem to have the bike sorted out. A working substitute fuel pump and new relays did the trick Thank you!!
  10. Ok I'll keep looking for them. I have a friend that does motorcycle upholstery so if all else fails I'll hit him up. Thanks!
  11. Mine is sun damaged. I'm happy to consider both stock and aftermarket seats. Thank you!
  12. Great tips, and some applicable to my 98 EV that I'm trying to resuscitate as well. Thank you!
  13. Lol, yah I checked and no drops so far.
  14. Ok but I'm using just a substitute battery for now as the one that came with the bike is dead. The bike was supposed to have been running within the last 3 months. The gas smells ok but I'll be flushing the tank and lines anyway
  15. Thank you! Are there target voltages for each condition I should be looking for?
  16. I agree that maybe the zip tied battery cables should be bolted and so I'll do that. I'll look for those relays as well. Thanks for the tips!
  17. Yes, happy to post more pictures! I think the previous owner was a caring one. There is battery tender wiring and not shown is a very complete tool kit I removed to check things out. The janky-est thing I can see of the wiring is my makeshift jumping of the battery cables while I wait for the correct size battery.
  18. Wow I had no idea there were new ones available that cheaply. I could swear I did a search on their site and came up empty, but when I entered the part number you gave it came right up. Thank you! My only concern is that it states fitment for 1999 through 2005, and I thought there was a difference between the fitment for 2001 and 2002. I'll definitely check it out, though, especially as AF1 is just 5 miles from my office.
  19. Excellent - thank you Pressureangle!
  20. Thank you footgoose! I bought a bunch of 5 pin relays from a source noted on Wildguzzi for my 1998 California. I understand that I can replace both the 5 pin and 4 pin relays with 5 pins on the 98, so maybe I can on the Lemans as well? I'll give it a try but first switch with the #3 relay. All the relays appear to be in excellent condition with no corrosion (unlike my 98). I don't know the relay brand but will check when I get home from work later today.
  21. This may need to go to the Introductions thread, but I have the issue of getting it started and also looking for a seat, so I thought I'd put it here and move it if needed. I bought this LeMans on Friday at an estate sale auction. I now have 10 Moto Guzzi's, 6 purchased as a package, and hope to par down the herd as I get to know them better. I think this one will definitely be a keeper! My 7 year old daughter and number 1 co-pilot Haley agrees! I am trying to get it started, but am getting nothing other than lights, horn, etc. When I turn the ignition to on, I get a red light, no neutral light, and no fuel pump prime. I've tried with the kickstand up and down, clutch in, verified 'run' switch is on etc., but still nothing. I see there are some very good threads here regarding no-start issues, and I'll be following them, but wanted to throw this out there in case I'm overlooking something. Also, I understand there is a 'startus interruptus' mod that I assume is some sort of kill switch? If someone is familiar with that I'd like to know more so that I can verify whether this bike has it. Also, as the pictures show, I need a replacement seat or source for a cover and will be posting a wanted ad for this shortly. And finally, I bought the bike in Albuquerque, NM. If anyone is familiar with this machine or its former owner I'd love to hear from them. Thanks!
