Welcome aboard, Dave. "Bike-a-holic" - the first step is admitting you have a problem. The second step is buying a second bike. The third step...well you get it. I think the fifth step is building a bigger shed or garage...a couple of guys here are at that stage. Keep smiling. k

Van, toss them all but the five pin...your new ones should all have five pins-they interchange. Order one more and replace the old five pin. In the interim, if you have a problem with electrics--swap the old out of its original spot with one of the new ones and that will probably cure it. I'm not a 'tron guy either, but that's what I would do. k

So I pulled the cover off the bike last night in anticipation...woke up this am to an ice storm and snow. Was afraid I'd have nothing to do...8 of 12. Gonna have to study.

Absolutely...you can never have enough knives and oddly, whichever one you have on your person becomes a general purpose knife. Tex, ask not what you can do with your knife, but what you would be unable to do without it. Opportunities abound. k

Factory bag here as well. Ditto foam pads as foward tank edges. Fits well. Nice backpack straps if you need to carry it away from bike. k

48-60F here most of month...lots of rain and winds though. Still working a few miles in around the deluge. Sadly, I need some freezing weather to trim my fruit trees correctly...aw, who cares. k

Jon, my Sport steadfastly turns in 39mpg...I can affect it by riding brutally, but not to the plus. If your passenger is someone with an opinion you value...you may wish to have 'em perch on the pad for a few moments before purchase. If you have the cash for and option of the "better" suspension...go for it as indications in the forum are that you will be glad you did...however, I have what I believe is pretty much standard issue susupension and it has met my needs. Enjoy your purchase...was put off by rain today myself. k

Bill, can't get the pics to open on my dial up...price for living in the boonies...but concur with Mike that your Stucchi should have a hanger/insulator. Obtw, when I installed my Stucchi (with hanger/insulator) it too set up a vibration, which I later traced to the pipe being too close to the sidestand rest. k

Negative, you do not have to remove the oil filter in order to remove the pan. The oil filter access is provided so the pan does not have to be removed everytime you change the filter, although removing the pan is recommended in order to clean the screen around the pickup tube. It really sounds like a previous owner glued the old gasket on both sides as many here have said...a heatgun or the wife/significant other's high power hair dryer might help loosen the grip a little. I have both...the mesh gear with waterproof insert for hot weather and leather zip togther pants/jacket (all Rocket) for cooler weather. Bought the mesh because the summer weather here in TN (much like DC) is so very hot and humid, and I just didn't feel safe anymore in my t shirt and jeans. Bought the leather for the cooler weather and after reading an article, I think in "Motorcyclist", about the friction characteristics of the different riding suit materials and their contribution (or protection from ) injury in a spill. The friction properties discussed in this case were not so much the abrasion resistance, but the ability of the material to allow your precious bod to "skid" along the hard road surface without alot of bouncing/flailing about as a result of the material's desire to rub with the road. Jeans it turns out, was like throwing down sandpaper and caused the extremities to flail around in a manner to cause more injury...the textiles (solid, not mesh type) were middle ground, all causing less flailing of extremities/injuries...leather offered the "slickest" ability to skim along the surface w/no flailing (probably the reason for racing requirements). Anyway, wish I had the article or remembered more of the specifics. I never saw their subsequent tests of the mesh gear...but use mine all the time as better than what I used to wear. All that said, my leathers have a lower comfort factor than the mesh...maybe because they are less forgiving of one too many twinkies consumed, but they are certainly higher on the protection factor and look like they mean business. In my dreams, though, I am eventually going to purchase a real touring bike and plan to complement that with a set of Aerostitch textile (or BMW textile) as the best of both worlds and the path of least resistance to long term comfort. I noticed an earlier discussion on colors...my mesh and leather jacket have the yellow panels on chest, back and arms...I have had little fade in the mesh jacket despite nearly three years of use and multiple washings, and the yellow still seems to alert SUV drivers of my presence...of course, I also seem to stand out when I stop at the HD dealer for coffee in the yellow, with my red Guzzi Tshirt underneath---someone always asks "are you riding that Guzzi out there?" uh, yes... k ps, I do have a very nice HD leather jacket that I received as a gift...no padding, but very nice...I occassionaly wear it to church.
