I like it...does it have a cupholder? k

A house, new appliances, tile floor and counter, fixtures, roof, furnace...ow! Beware the fixer-upper. Happy New Year. k
-
I have one friend I feel is competent enough to ride mine (by definition, he has ridden and raced for more years than I can count)...none of my associates at work appear at the same level of competence, although like Oiji, if they leave their Harley in my garage for security, I'd probably let them take her out. k
-
Don't know what mine's worth...but it smashes more bugs than alot of the $20K HDs around here. k

Mike, mine did much the same...reset valves, TPS several times...pulled Power Commander out, put it back in...ran compression checks...pulled the gas tank to get at wiring harness and found the aluminum paperized heat shield with a imprint of the open air box filter in it. Heat shield had pulled away from adhesive on bottom of tank and was suffocating motor. Maybe it's simple and dealer hasn't looked there yet? k

So I'll be seeing you for free coffee at the HD shop, eh? k

I am on shore duty at the moment, so workdays are typically Mon-Fri dark to dark. On the weekdays, I'll usually get up about 0430 and check the weather on the news (sometimes the internet to view the radar picture)...if it looks like it won't rain (much), I'll ride to work at least Tue-Thurs as Mon and Fri I swap my uniforms and pt gear out. I usually ride on Sat mornings leaving at first light and return around 1000-1200 to miss the Sat afternoon traffic. On the really cold Saturdays I putz from motorcycle shop to motorcycle shop to see what's new and drink the free coffee. k

Interesting...noticed my front appears to be wearing faster than the rear as well. Second set of tires, these Michelin Pilot Roads. The previous Bridgestones wore the rear out first, but first owner outweighed my by 30 or so pounds (believe that is about 120 in twinkie points). I am wondering if the increased front tire wear has to do with my inclination to use the front brake without rear brake assist a large amount of the time, or the previously threaded rotor warpage I dealt with...anyway, working to use rear in tandem with front again, but will likely have to put a tire on in near future. Btw, my front tire wear specifically makes the tire look like it has a more squared center with abrupt angle to sidetread...may just be the lack of corners around here. k

Randy, don't know about the motorcycle shops there, but when we were stationed there in the 90's, the kids always liked to go to Hard Rock Cafe for the Tokyo specific souvenirs to share with family and friends. There are a great number of temples and shrines that make great culture exploration trips. Also if you happen to be there when the Auto Show is happening, I recommend it as a way to really get a look at some interesting vehicles as well as the differences in presentation from West to East. Believe you may be too late in season for Mt. Fuji, but that little hike is something many have enjoyed. We had a great time in our nearly three years living there and while I have only been able to get back once since, Japan still holds fond memories. You can get almost anywhere by train, and if you don't know the language (which we didn't), the locals are always glad to help you with directions...pick the high school age or younger folk to ask as they are more interested in practicing their english and less embarrassed by not knowing how to say something. I have actually stood on a train platform staring at the train/city map (while holding it upside down) and had a woman come up very politely, giggling -- turn my map right side up and then help me buy my ticket and get on to my destination. A great place.

23rd Annual Spaghetti Run - Sunday, October 16th
stormsedge replied to dlaing's topic in Meetings, Clubs & Events
Dlaing, wish I were in town for it. Sonny's always got some kind of interesting special project going on. k -
Hang in there Tex, our prayers go out to you and you family. k

88mph...that's 93 mph on my super accurate Veglia. k
-
You guys took all the good guesses...so I'll say "flux capaciter". k
-
Yup...if I'd looked at my manual an hour or so ago, we would not have had the benefit of this post. Spacer on the other side (in accordance with the way it was meant to be installed) makes things line up. Thanks again, Dlaing. jrt, I had a pulsing in the front brake and could actually see the one rotor wobbling at speed (and on the jack for that matter)...when it got to the point that it would "push" the pads back during long periods of no braking, causing me to have to pump the brakes once to seat the pads, I decided that was about enough of that. So ordered up both rotors, new pads (sadly the ones on there were barely used) and the wheel bearings (as a precaution since it had been warped for so long). Old bearings did seem to have a bit of sideplay in them, so just as well. So I'll go do a short test hop in AM, then put it away to play with the grandbaby. k
-
Dlaing, nope, but your drawing caused me to go stare at my manual and I have put the left spacer on the right side....hmmm, coulda swore I laid those parts out on the floor in order as they came off. Where's that dog? Grandkid? Gremlin? Thanks...I'll go give it another try...if at first you don't suceed...do it two or three more times. k

Help! Had to replace front rotors due to warpage...replaced front wheel bearings as a precaution. Put everything back as it came apart. When wheel is mounted to forks, both rotors touch down in both brake caliper bodies as if the wheel is offset a bit to the left of center. Took apart, removed right bearing, ensured seat of center bearing spacer in left bearing...reseated right bearing, then tapped left back in until center spacer barely touched down. Put wheel back on...calipers still look like wheel is offset to left. There were no spacers on this bike other than the wide one on the right side and no mention of needing to shim the wheel to center in the manual. What gives? k btw, 2001 Rosso Mandello V11 Sport

"Hmm – all blank so far. Well, they seem to be stumped for "Catchy Girl Sayings" There must be some? Surely? 61687[/snapback] Do you mean something like: "Keep trying to convince yourself you're back there because you want to stare at the back of my leathers...not because you haven't got the nerve (power, guts, cajones) to pass." or "Apparently they're aerodynamic...your eyes keep slipping off of them."

thanks Mott, I think most are in east TN, but there may be one out this way...Todd, anything near Memphis? k
-
Motts....WOW!...great info, but has me concerned that I maybe should be riding a Honda instead of something involving so much science . I don't know anyone around this neck of the woods capable of the type of work you describe...guess I'll have to resolve to tinker until I find it. k

Todd, okay, makes sense, the reason I was thinking it might be a bit lean is cooler air should be denser...didn't know the ECU took some of this into account. I am running your map except have richened it in all zones per our running email string a month or so ago...that said, I have gradually richened it and the days have progressively gotten hotter and more humid until this week (most noticable yesterday) as temps have dropped a bit as has the humidity. Bike feels a bit sluggish and the occasional pop through the exhaust has returned (though not as bad as it once was). As you know went through a week or so of experimenting with valve adjustments and checking TPS readings (snd reglued the heat shield under the gas tank...guess I should check it again). Will get out and flog it today a bit to see if it was just me. Thanks for your assistance. k

Has anyone experienced a need to change PCIII settings as the weather cools a bit from +100 and very humid to high 80's-90's and less humid? Seems I'm starting to show symptoms of being a bit lean again. It makes sense that I may have to tinker with it, but wonder if anyone else has? k

I'm weary of this thread John, so this is my last post in it and my last pass through it...the aforementioned was not a "they had it coming"...no one has anything like this "coming". Merely an observation that all that could - did not get out and it increases the rescue effort for those who were really stuck with no means. I deal in realities in my line of work and have been involved as we try to get our arms around our part (plus attempting to locate our people), while developing lessons learned...and there are hundreds of lessons. I, like you, hope that we learn and grow from this...I have been in 45 of our 50 and as many foreign countries...including yours. There are poor everywhere and I would love to help them all, as would you and millions of others...the question is, when will we and to what end? Please don't be too quick to cast the Katrina evacuation as a racist undertaking...it serves no purpose except to further ingrain hate and prejudice, making it more difficult to trust and pull together during this time. Again, your prayers and donations (to appropriate agencies) will be most appreciated by those in need. Thanks, John. Out here. k
