  1. V, mine has occassionaly stuck, but jiggling the key and seat has always worked it loose. Failing that, the latch mechanism works on a cable pull arrangement from the keylock...maybe you can get on it near the key and work a pulling force? k
  2. I wasn't that smart but, now I have an old one for my tool box, which didn't have one before.
  3. OV, while you are looking at the oil lines, there was a fixture on my frame (right side I think) under the tank that is part of the breather system---mine was loose and oozing oil into the wiring harness...but my memory of it places it adjacent to the rear of the cylinders. k
  4. St Aug, sounds good. I loop down on A1A through St A and back up Hwy 1 about every other Saturday just to exercise the bike. Let me know. Btw, don't know about your kickstand issue, but the N light symptoms you describe were close to what I was experiencing before the N switch failed. Good news is that if you run that wire to ground, the bike will run, so you can afford to experiment with cleaning the terminal. k
  5. Wick, I leave it in neutral. k
  6. Find the Power commander in this picture: ---looks like the pigtail runs into the rubber padding wire tied at the rear of your underseat frame. Gars--I recommend a Power Commander...allows you some lattitude in adjustment that the factory didn't. k
  7. All, thanks for advice. I pulled the tank and began by testing the 5 plug connector to the kill switch...using the wiring diagram in the cryptic "repair" manual and deduction, I ended up (er, down) at the nuetral switch...I pulled the wire and stuck my continuity light (which was grounded) to the spade clip and everything worked. I am embarrassed to say what I paid for that gold plated, platinum tipped switch ($47USD) at my local vendor (Atlantic Motorsports), but as my wife said--"do you want to ride today, or shop for a better price"...((sigh)) So I'm back on the road and with a bit more knowledge on what I might do to limp home in an emergency. Thanks for the assist. k
  8. Okay, Okie, I'll try that as well. But there is no change whether the clutch is pulled in or not, and the fuel pump isn't pumping. I'll probably end up tracing wires tomorrow...at least it will not be too cold. k
  9. I'll do that, however, the lights work fine and the engine turned over fine on the first start up. Now no fuel pump or neutral light. k
  10. Last night went to fire up the V11...symptoms follow: All normal, turned over and started fine...but engine sounded weak and didn't settle out--coughed and quit Battery light on, oil light on, no neutral light, no fuel pump Headlight and tails work, horn works Fuses check okay, except #8-electrical solenoid...but I have manual on tank (is that the solenoid they mean?)...fuse is good--no power to either side on test light switched relays around twice no change hand activated the kick stand switch no change frustated owner yells distinctly insulting works at it no change Appreciate assist. k
  11. They are great to take off and leave on garage floor...then tell the gandkids not to touch...harmless, but fun. k
  12. It's cool, on several levels.
  13. I don't know what it is, but I have one in my spare parts bin...if it will make better gas mileage, tell me how to hook it up.
  14. This is very timely guys, as I've noticed my battery light flicker on occassion recently...current battery went almost three years, so I guess I can't complain. k
  15. I was reminded Monday that I was overdue to reglue the insulation to the bottom of my gas tank...a hard blast into traffic, with the front wheel a bit light was quickly followed by a personality change...cranky, wouldn't pull at all above 4K rpm. Since I heard no mechanical "music" besides that which has always been, I assumed my open filter had sucked the insulation from the bottom of the tank (again)(hard lesson: always assume the simplest first---it saves hours of setting the TBs, adjusting valves, tinkering with PCusb etc---like the last time). Limped the 12 or so miles home, dodging traffic on what now amounted to a 400+ pound Vespa. Once in the garage and cooled...lifted the tank to find the aluminum paper insulator laying on the filter face. 9 USD and a can of "spray glue...strong stuff" (Elwood Blues), I am back on the road and strong as ever. k
  16. It's a great bag. I've been abusing mine for over three years...don't remember what it cost, but it was worth it. I did put a couple of foam rubber blocks on the straps where they run across the lower tank edge, but no complaints. It will hold five days of scivvies and socks (plus allen wrenches, tire repair kit and maps) if you are so inclined. k
  17. Mostly sunny...70ish (F). I'm trying to feel bad about it (not!!). k
  18. When I sold my '79 SP years ago, it was with no test ride...the guy was a Harley guy and called me about six months later to see if I wanted to buy it back. I did test ride the RM, as I bought it from a guy (also a Harley owner) who had had it in a H-D chopper/consignment shop window for sale, for months. Ran it through the gears once and paid him. He, his wife and mine stood in the chopper shop holding the money...he may not have been as likely to let me ride it if his wife were not so hot to sell it. (btw, I'd gotten the serial number from him earlier and insured it before I rode it). k
  19. I just renewed mine with Progressive -- $461 USD. Florida full coverage with uninsured motorist...this was a $71 increase from last year for me, but I attributed it to the move to FL. k
  20. Mine has just over 10K miles on the clock and is beginning to act like it is broken in. k
  21. I've often participated in "Tree Sleeping"...its called "deer hunting" by the hard core b's, but I figure if the deer isn't big enough to wake you up, what's the point? k
  22. I'll help...Buy It!! Do you feel better now? Merry Christmas. k
  23. Man, what am I going to do when I run out of the filters in the bottom drawer of my tool box...this is all getting very complicated!! k
  24. Unlike our tires...a tire thread seems to go on and on! Pete, I see that you have already purchased a tire (the model I tried to get, but couldn't find when I put on my last set). That said, for anyone still reading this ((yawn...zzzzZZZZ)), my bike has been in the barn nine months and the tires will have to be replaced as a matter of course, but I got great mileage out of my Pilot Roads (twice what the Bridgestones had rolled in--sorry I don't have the actual number in front of me, but upwards of 7k)...likely I would have gotten more if not for the interruption of deployment and subsequent layup. A disclaimer here--I do not think I ride with the gusto of Pete and more than a few other Guzzist's posting here, so that may be why I reaped such high mileage. Keep smiling. k
  25. The Triton is really cool...I suddenly have an overpowering urge for another bike! Merry Christmas. k
