Lucianna Paluzzi is the actress who played Fiona Volpe. Neither one of them actually rode the bike. You didn't think it was going to be easy did you? -

I find that the Guzzi is much easier to corner if you bump up the idle to about 2000 rpm. The tendency to twitch from backing off the throttle too quickly goes away.

NW200 Onboard lap
helicopterjim R.I.P. replied to Guzzirider's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I had the priviledge of viewing the NW200 from the passenger seat of the car of my friend Gary Tate who raced there in the late 80's. Except for the odd mention of bumping some curbs the commentary was much the same as Michael Rutter spoke so here it is: -

Ummmh ....Eugene? I've seen the pictures you emailed to me but I havn't seen them here on the forum. Are you too ashamed to post them here or what? They look good to me and even though there is only one Guzzi in the photo's (albeit a nice one) that's no reason to hide!! -

Carabela 60 cc -
First Stadavarious ride of the year today. We all met for breakfast in Chilliwack and then decided since Bill was last to arrive he would be president or king. Eventually decided he would be queen. The weather was not the fgreatest so we settled on a short ride of about 150 kilometers. We left chilliwack and rode the backroads to rosedale, crossed the Fraser river to Agassiz then headed west for Mission. There we took the backroads again following (mostly) the Dewdney Trunk road. Very light rain but still a nice ride. Then we came out by Maple Ridge and doubled back to Mission, crossed the Fraser again and back to Chilliwack. Gord and Sean were on their Eldorado and did not find any fluffy little dogs so all was well! Altogether there was an Eldorado, a Centauro, a California, a V11 Sport and a V11 LeMans, 2 Brevas and three Norges!! Not one of them had a sidecar but one fellow has a sidecar outfit at home and Cory used to be a Monkey on a sidecar racer back in the Westwood days!!

helicopterjim R.I.P. replied to mike wilson's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I believe you are right. The motor was the Phoenix race engine and although I am not entirely sure I think it was a 750 square four intended for the Formula 750 class but the actual Silver Dream racer was a 500. The Barton 750 was also used in a sidecar outfit that raced at the Isle of Man I recall it was Barton Motors not Barton Engineering but again that was many years ago. -
Billet pegs - problem fitting it
helicopterjim R.I.P. replied to slowkitty's topic in Technical Topics
Yup! That's the way she goes together. I had to try a couple of different positions for the lever on the shifter shaft before it felt and shifted right but when I hit the right combo it worked really well. I hope you checked the lube on the bushes before assembly. Well done. Jim -
I'm not going but if someone (such as yourself) from the forum is going and has internet access then it would be quite fun if they could post some comments and pics live from the TT. Just a thought .... Cheers Jim

Billet pegs - problem fitting it
helicopterjim R.I.P. replied to slowkitty's topic in Technical Topics
You are on the right track now. I have the same billet footpegs and they work great. You will hopefully find that your bike shifts much smoother and more precise with this kit. My bike was much improved. Remember to take the whole assemby apart next winter and clean and relube it or you may find the bushings wearing excessively. I can try and get a picture of mine if you are still having trouble! Cheers Jim -
Break in: Kid gloves or ride it like ya stole it?
helicopterjim R.I.P. replied to zen_kick's topic in Technical Topics
Greg. By chance, did you ever work on light aircraft? That is similar to the procedure for breaking in an aero engine (recip) after overhaul or ring change. The first flight after overhaul the aircraft climbs at full power to about 10,000 feet then descends and repeats the procrdure one more time. Voila!! The engine is broke in!! This technique is much the same as MotoMan suggests on his website. -
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off! Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up. Remember the five simple rules to be happy: *Free your heart from hatred - Forgive. *Free your mind from worries - Most never happen. *Live simply and appreciate what you have. *Give more. *Expect less NOW, for the sequel . . The donkey later came back, and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him. The gash from the bite got infected and the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock. MORAL FROM TODAY'S LESSON: When you do something wrong, and try to cover your ass, it always comes back to bite you...
