  1. The Soviets used Cossack cavalry throughout the entire war to good effect. They made use of the poor ground in Byellorussia and Ukraine to harass the German armies flanks. Also of note is that contrary to popular belief, the German army was not as mechanised as is generally thought. More than half of their ground transport for much of the war was horse drawn. The mechanised sections were first into battle with the reseves and supply lines using mostly horse transport.
  2. Wouldn't that be stealing? That contravenes #8 of the Decalogue!!!
  3. It was the masons who did all that and they are not all Americans, however you cannot be president if you are not a mason.
  4. We all need some Norwegian Blue!!
  5. There is 2 inches of rain forecast for the next 24 hours so I'll put some buckets out and try and mail you some later!!
  6. Obviously not pining for the fjords then, is he!!
  7. I just checked the forecast and there is 50 mm (2 inches) of rain forecast for the next 24 hours. I think I'll drive my truck!!
  8. Jaap! If you don't want to start an 'argument clinic' forum, how about a 'dead parrot' forum. Anything would make sense the way these guys are going at it (and maybe they'll go on a date afterwards!!).
  9. That is a plan that we will make happen. Cheers Jim
  10. Hello Bruce. I would love to go but I'm not sure I can trust the weather between BC and Quebec to ride my V11 and my truck burns too much gas. I am wondering if you are from Quebec? I don't believe I have heard from anyone in Eastern Canada on this forum and would like to know if there are any Easterners on here. I know there are Guzzi's in the East including V11's but no one is speaking up. Cheers Jim
  11. Hey Jaap! Would it be possible to start a new section in this forum (as you did for the Tenni guys) and perhaps entitle it "argument clinic" or something similar. Then we could put threads such as this one and global warming in their proper place. I enjoy these subjects but I do not feel they belong under the heading "24/7 V11". That implies that V11's are involved and that is definitely not the case for many of these threads. I think mdude's comments are fair but I don't believe we need to take it off this forum. I would rather see it separated from the motorcycle commentary so that we all recognise it as a place for our own rants and rages!
  12. It is on the top of my list now!!! Thanks! Jim
  13. The capabilities of the driver and the rider are not known either. One could be a racer and the other have just normal street skills. Unkowns that make it hard to realise the accuracy of the comparison. Somewhere I have a video of a Ducati 999 beating a Lamborghini on a racetrack. I was surprised as Steve is right about 4 wheels usually having an advantage on a closed course.
  14. Went back again Saturday and managed to miss Van. Bloody cel phones work like crap in that building. I didn't see Ryan there either and I couldn't find Dirty Bill. I have to say that the MT-01 had the best looking aftermarket exhaust. That is about all I have to say about the bike show but I will post some pictures later.
  15. I read about 20 degrees in Brigadoon while they are freezing in Brussels, shedding leathers in Turners Bend and salting the roads in Denmark. What is the weather like where you live? Chilliwack: 6°C, cloudy with rain showers. Vancouver had 27 days straight with rain but unofficially here in Chilliwack it is over 36 days with rain.
  16. Absolutely. I'll let you know when Jay Leno is going to be in Fauqier too. Another thing about the Destination Highways guidebooks. They let you know what places are motorcycle friendly for accomodation and also what places give you a discount for bikers. I hope they have an Oregon version out soon so we can travel up and down the west coast getting lost!!
  17. Great news Guy. Good riding to you!!!
  18. Google says this means this . Not much help. Sorry Antonio.
  19. I was at the Vancouver Bike Show and was checking out the Destination Highways booth. They will be coming out with a guidebook for Northern California to compliment the DH BC and DH Washington guidebooks presently available. To anyone not familiar with Destination Highways guidebooks I shall give you a quote from their website. The guidebooks provide you with all the information on how to find these roads, what to expect when you ride them and where to find all the things that go with a good ride like restaurants and accomodations. I have the guidebook for British Columbia and I can tell you that the ratings they give each road for twistiness and quality of pavement and more are very accurate. I have used my book to plan more than one routing to include as much winding road as possible. I could say lots more but I think a few links to their website will provide you with much more than I could say. Enjoy the ride!!! 20. This is what the insulating wrap looks like.
  21. Yes they do. It may not be stocked at a small airport but if there is a mechanic there he will know where to get it.
  22. Go to your nearest airport, find an aircraft mechanic and ask him if you can get any heat shielding for fuel/oil lines. They use it on almost every aircraft somewhere.
  23. You are correct, Jaap and Canada is America's biggest trading partner. I suppose President Bush's remark may simply mean what it says. China and India are competing very hard to outmanufacture each other so that could lead to more imports coming from overseas to America!! I suppose Mr. Forrest could be forgiven coming from an island on the other side of the planet and all!! I reckon all that nice biking weather there distracts them from all the banalities of the rest of the world (d#^%@t!!)
  24. I xame by twice about 5:30 and 7:00 or so. I even checked the beer garden but I didn't look under the tables. I'm back again today (free tickets too) but I have to say that nothing really caught my eye. The MT-01 is OK. Better finished than the showbike. I agree with you about the R1 but I did like the colours of the GSXR 750. The 1000 qnd 600 were blaah. I talked to the Piaggio guys. They will be the importers of Guzzi, Aprilia and all the scooters as of early April. The bikes will come directly to Canada and they will stock parts as well. They expect prices to drop on almost everything. The Breva 1100 and the Griso are expecred here around May so they will be 2007 models. They are also planning on a racing program that includes Guzzi for the ThunderTwins series back east. I asked if they would provide travel money but ... I saw Brian Robson. He is still thrashing his R1 throught the rain. He plans on buying a Griso when the come available. I got quite a laugh at the Hyosung 250 cc V-Rod!! Chrome for the masses!!!! Let me know when the IPA is ready and I'll find the Stilton!!!
  25. You mean this? It is almost as cool as this!!
