  1. I have been looking into suitable methods of getting the bike wheels off the deck for more serious garage work. I have a paralellogram collapsible stand made from American Grade Scaffolding Tube from my Harley Interlude I now have a luvverly crossover which takes up a lot less space underneath the tranny but looking at the way this spine frame is configured, am I OK to shove the lift under the sump???? I don't feel confident I should be doing that. How do youse guys do it then? Nige.
  2. I take it these guards are or should be designed to be sacrificial anyway. My old S3 had a fine (standard) stout chrome crash bar mounted on the front downtube. Actually they were quite good looking, but had I had the misfortune to use them I suspect that ,whilst the engine would have been well guarded, it would likely have trashed the frame. Something has to give to absorb the impact. Is there an accepted type that performs best, or is it all a matter of surmising and conjecture? Nige.

  6. As you can see from the blurb on the left, I have a Scura I was horrified at the noise mine made as I pulled up at home after collecting it. Although it is quiet when cold as it reaches working temperature it rattles like hell When I dug into this topic the basis of the info I came out with was that the rattle was normal with clutch disengaged. Unlike th twin plate the rattle was said to be the transmission backlash, exascerbated by the light flywheel. I was advised to raise the tickover to 1100rpm and consider putting heavier gearbox oil in. I have raised the tickover and it has helped. I have got used to the noise and whilst I don't like it, I can live with it. I am always listening for that heavier warning sound of impending explosion though. Nige.

    It really depends where you are riding, but it can happen quite easily. I had an'85 FXRS Sport for many years, the belt was quite wide, but both the upper and lower runs were very well guarded. Quite regularly I cleared debris from the lower guard, so it is a fair bet it would have lunched the belt on more than one occasion. An open belt may look cool, but it is very vulnerable. I really do like belts, but they need to be used sensibly. Correct adjustment is very important. They give quite a lot when they are bedding in, then pretty much nothing at all for the life of the belt. A slack belt feels pretty much like what you would expect...an elastic band...unpleasant to ride and in a very short time you will have fractured and missing teeth. Cleaner lighter smoother. Nige.

    Belt drive is smooth clean and forgiving. My preferences are belt....shaft...chain. A belt has to be well guarded though, prefrably on upper and lower runs. A stray stone will at least burst the belt and my well scrap the pulley too. Nige.

  12. I am a great fan of flyscreens. As you say if they are set up right they are very effective. Not sure I have seen that...Do you have any pics posted? I am modifying a Le Mans 2 fairing to fit mine at the moment. What is taking the most work is modifying the cockpit secion to take the V11 round headlamp. Nige.

  14. I think a minimalist fly screen would suit the muscle bike image better? Something more akin to the first le mans? Nige.
  15. I do not want to look at them then! I had a pair of Harley shotgun 'mufflers' on a Tiger 750 once upon a time. They looked great and sounded well too. I think one of them would look well on that system. Nige.
  16. I agree about the downpipes.....Very sexy! Then they have to connect it to that utter abomination! I prefer the very early prototype myself TBH. Not quite as much 'nice' Breva...If you follow! Nige.
  17. Do you disconnect the battery before you leave it? It might be an idea if you are leaving it for a fair while? Mine are garaged and I use a conditioner of the Guzzi gel battery and disconnect and periodically charge the Triumph and MuZ batteries over winter. Nige.
  18. Trouble is you need a healthy battery to fault find effectively. It sounds to me like it should be his problem rather than yours anyway. As Nogbad suggests I would tend to use it for longer rides. When I go out I usually do around 80 miles. Short runs do more harm than good. Nige.
  19. Do you leave it on a conditioner or use a charger at all? Other than fault conditions, the usual culprits for battery draining are alarm systems. Nige.
  20. Yeah, It may be on the way out then. TBH I wouldn't pretend to know how long they last, I haven't had to replace one yet. Are you still under warranty? Mind you, doubtful if it would cover that. No harm in asking, I suppose. Nige.

  22. How old is the battery? As I understand it the gel type do tend to expire pretty quickly when they come towards the end of their useful life. The old lead acids used to linger a lot longer! Nige.
