  1. I was talking about push starting the bike, i.e.- running along the bike, jumping on, and dumping the clutch. I think some folks call it bump starting. I used to do this when the old bikes had dead batteries. I had heard that this was a serious no-no with the newer bikes because of the reasons that Tex stated. Of course, I have also heard antecdotal reports that people had done it with no problems. I am not going to do it. My luck suppply is low at the best of times, and I need all I can get.     Heated Grips

    Put the Bar Snake in the Verlichhi adustable clip-ons today. Hope to finally mount them on the bike tomorrow. I am going to install the dual-star heated grip elements also. A Hi/Low/Off switch came with the bike but no bracket came with it. Even with my very limited skills I can fabricate one (might even use carbon fiber for the bling affect), but I am curious about where other people have mounted it. Actually, the switch looks pretty cheesy. Any alternative switches out there? Doodad switch from Aerostich maybe? All help appreciated. John
  4. Read in another post about a gentleman push starting his LeMans after the battery went dead. I thought this was a good way to fry the computer. Yes? No? Just like to know before I screw something up. TIA, John
  5. Going to go with the dual-star under grip elements. You can get them with the hi-low switch or an automatic thermostat. 1-(800) GO-N-RIDE (for the benefit of future thread-searchers). Thanks for all the help. John

  9. Thanks guys. I like the grip idea better than the gloves because of the stray glove wires and a more "sano" appearance. And, Al, it is usually edging up to the 50's here by now, but we have had snow and teens to 30 temps. I am going to go spray some aerosol cans into the air to hurry up global warming.   10. If it ever warms up here, I will be able to put the new Verlichi 'bars on the goose. I would like to add heated grips at the same time. Is anyone using these? Any recomendations? TIA I got frost-bite in my hands years ago, and now the only bike I can ride when it is in the 50 degree range is my BMW K75 rt. Please save me from this humiliation. John
  11. Thanks Rocketman. I have webtv, not a computer, so some things I just can't see. These lists are always meaningless, but fun. THis list is actually more diverse than most with a pretty wide sampling. But NO Rokon!? Come on.

  13. Martin: you certainly have a more stimulating job than I do. I have that issue of BIKE. Also, we get one of your motoring shows here: "Fifth Gear". I think they did a bit on the police driving test that you mentioned. They took a camera out with one of the instructors. He gave a running commentary as he flew along, i.e. "Have to watch this bloke on the left, looks a bit dodgy. Coming up on a hairy roundabout here." The guy was really moving but constantly aware of the road and traffic situation. Very impressive. I think around here, you only have to demonstrate that you are related to the local sheriff and you get the keys to a 5.7 liter Ford Crown Victoria. John
  14. Martin Barrett: The capabilities of the UK police bike and car pilots is approaching legendary, even here. Have heard many tales of crazy sport bikes run down by Pan-Europeans with officers sitting bolt upright and only one hand on the bars--other hand waving offenders to the side of the road. Hugely impressive. Have you recieved any of this training? John
  15. Lighten up folks. I just thought it was interesting info. I do most of my riding in rural West Virginia (is there any other kind of WV? beat you to it) where there is zero chance of being hunted down by helicopters, corvettes, cop ducatis or cruise missiles; and considering the huge number of small and twisty roads and the small number of troopers, radio interception is not as fail-safe as it would be in other parts of the world. FWIW I only ran from the cops once, over 15 years ago, and was succesful-- a two-lane on the Ohio/PA line awash with holiday traffic and the cop was going the other way. Lately, when the cops tag me, I pull over and play nice. After all, I know the rules and the penalties and am responsible for my own behavior. However, if I was close to the state line again in traffic... Now, unknot your panties.

    Noises

    I was just about to ask the same question as my 2000 seems to make an awful lot of noise. The dealer just did the gearbox recall and said the clutch looks great, but I was worried anyway. BTW, when someone asks me about the noise, I use the same answer that I give when they ask "Whats a motor gussy?" I look knowledgeable and say "It's Italian." That seems to satisfy them, or at least shut them up. John
