Ohlins on a LeMans...I remember now I pressed out the sperical bearing that came stock in the mount. Then I machined a piece of aluminium the length I needed to press fit in its place( the bearing) I think it was the 80 mm stroke universal andy -
Bitubo Steering Damper Alternatives

I have the universal ohlins mounted on my LeMans. no problem. Think outside the box. I'd post a photo but I don't think I can get a decent picture.80 or 90 mm stroke...can't remember which andy -
anyone with a track bike or used there bike on the track? Has anyone experiment with the variations of angle. I was thinking about a heim jointed reaction rod to play with pinion angle? Any racers out there..... Pete? Paul ? andy

There are no plastic caged bearings in the V11 6 speed... at least up to 02 andy

The 6-speed box is a very good box. But....It's still kinda like driving a 20 year old Ferrari....which is also a very good box....but.....It doesn't "snick, snick, snick into gear, you have to be very deliberate in shifting as it is actually quite a long throw from gear change to gear change. The "flexible couplings", known to the yanks as syncros, are already undercut a bit, help "pull it into gear...and that also gives the impression that it is a short throw to shift gears...cause the udercutting of the syncros"pull" the next gear change together and when it decides not pull is when we find the false neutral. We also need to remember that this box has 4 shift forks that all have to move when you shift gears....and there are 4 shafts spinning inside. Your usual jap bike has 3 shift forks and 2 shafts so the "throw can be somewhat quicker and shorter ....all things being equal its late ..i'll try more on this tomorrow andy

I pulled the box because of an annoying leak. I had some other things I wanted to do in there, specifically. have all the gears ,shafts, gearings, shift forks, and everything in the rear trans also, Micro Blued. You can read about it at www dot microblueonline dot com. Its some really cool stuff. I also figure that with as many moving parts( about 2.5 times that a jap bike has) that the guzzi has, anything to make them smoother will help. I can't explain it in print very well. The best example I have ..taking a shower with soap in "soft " water vs soap in "hard "water.....anyway I've seen it ..It works ..and I did it (motor is next) Gotta get my gearbox together....gettin warm outside andy

The good thing for me is that the shock is user friendly...If I don't like the damping, I can take it apart and change the shim stack( or compression for that matter) You can adjust the length of the shock by 12mm.I know the early sports had a different head angle than the 02 and up bikes. To me the early bikes steer lots quicker than the late models. I do have the hard bag setup and all the extra crap that they can hold but as some of us in the south say, I still like to shit and git I will be experimenting with the length in order to quiken the steering as well as getting more weight to the front. With 32 comp adj. ,6 major rebound adj., and adj length and preload, something good has to come of this .....It's gotta be better than wallowing through the turns later andy

Can he or can't he....only Luigi knows for sure and if you did not know...this is a V11 6 speed and the rear transmission andy

Can't wait to get this installed Maybe then the ol girl's ass will handle as good as her front Need to put the old shock on the dyno to see how new and old compare ... plus to see what a bad shock dyno sheet looks like. but first .............. andy

Here's the 02 withthe H & B 30L. I also have the 40L but she sure looks more like a barn door with them on. The 30L aren't bad, and I can take a fair amount of stuff.I can be gone for a week easy To bad Guzzi doesn't make this an option...something about high speed stability I can travel very quickly with the 30l but the 40l need a little less excitment...later andy

Yeah, I agree with the upside down bleeder point. It's one of those things that I see and myself says" whose the dipshit that did this" and me responds by saying "Just take the damn thing off and bleed it with the bleed valve pointing up" and then I get through with it and don't realize that not everyone sees things like me,myself, and I .later andy

Ok, so I pulled the rear brake caliper off today do give it some serious cleaning. Completely disassembled and split in 2. I guess I'm curious as to why the pistons are of a composite material ie.non-metallic? If this was the latest greatest road racer I could understand a few less grams of weight. I also understand that it maybe bypasses any corrosion issues. Guess I'm just sorta old fashoned when it comes to my brake pistons I usually don't use a lot of rear brake but this is the 2nd set of pads for the back and they are almost gone at 31,000m. I can see the discoloration in the rotor so I know it has been hot. I think it is important to keep this caliper clean. I know that this has been discussed before. Before cleaning it seemed like the pads could not move freely. After cleaning the pads rattled a little when I carried the caliper back to the bike and I think this is a good thing. Upon reassembly I wil check and make sure that the rear brake lever is adjusted to make absolutely sure that it is not "on " unless my foot is pushing on the lever. I don' think a few shots of brake clean in there will do the trick. From now on I will pull the pads and use simple green and a toothbrush to get em really clean....hey, don't have to worry about the pistons rusting....I know...They did that for our fellow riders across the pond andy

list is 41.00$ us andy

Definintely read Pete's post. Any of the blind bearings that need to come out will fall out easy with the application of heat. I will be sneaking mine into the misses oven when I put mine all back together. My pinion shaft nose bearing was also a little chewed up. Also found that the pinion gear itself had some pitting on the teeth where the ring gear meshes. Did not like the look of that so I will try and shim the whole lot just a little different and see if that will help. A new factory ring and pinion lists for almost a 1000.00$us. I took my bevel box apart for different reasons...I'm having everything that moves..ie...bearings,ring gear, pinion gear as well as all the bearings, gears, shafts, shift forksetc..in the gear box coated with Micro Blue( www dot microblueonline dot com).Good stuff !!! And if you read this Pete...Whenever you get a six speed box apart I think you will find some broken needle bearing cages under the gears themselve. These INA bearings are crap in my opinion and I have replace them all with a different manufacturer. andy

And as I check my notes oops (brain fart)I ain't got no notes I went with the 1.15 Springs. I believe I might fall into the aggressive rider catagory( at least thats what the local authorities say) I'm about 220 also and I have hard bags installed on the LeMans so the bike weighs a fair amount more than stock. I prefer a stiffer ride than most but I have also been asked by others what I have done as they liked the feel. I don't remember the exact length of spacers used but at the time they seemed quite long compared to stock. So long in fact that I could just barely get the nut back on the "top" of the threaded rod. It took 2 of us to get the job done .I also lent towards the racer side of sag. 7.5wt synthetic as opposed to 10w by Guzzi. After all was put back, install a couple of ny-ties for measuring purposes and off for some riding. All was good ...only under severe front brake only stopping did I get the ny-ties within 1/4" from using all the fork travel. I like it as well as some other folk who have had the pleasure of being Guzzied. And it does bring out the fact on my bike that the rear is undersprung cause she wallows in the corners from the back. That will be fixed next week with some new hardware andy
-
I used the 400cc amount of 7.5w synthetic and went for about 17-23mm of sag andy

Having been in the "Business" before I'll have to say that if you are a regular customer, you will get better attention. If I was having a busy day and one of our regulars came in with a flat or needed a tire, I would get right on it. The bike on the lift can usually wait 30 more will I fix this problem, and the guy or gal will get a good deal on the tire and the labor. I remember one customer who might as well have had a baseball bat in his hand. Thats what I felt like after dealing with him cause he just verbally beat the shit outta ya about pricing. He wanted a Termi ti complete system which comes with a new ECU,plate relocater....etc. He did not buy from me.Shows up about a week later with his stuff and wants to know how much to put it on. Somebody at the store qouted him an hour labor .We did the work and I told him he wasn't welcome in the store anymore. Which led to the standard labor rate of 65.00 an hour...or if you brought your own shit in cause you got it cheaper from the internet...but your to s..... to put on yourself...then you get charged 85.00 an hour. If i'm lyin I'm dyin and you would be suprised how many places do this.ANd the shops that won't do are twice as sick of it because they tell ya they won't do it. How many units do you think Guzzi sold last year?? In the big picture of motorcycles Guzzi is barely on the scope. Don't get me wrong...I like my LeMans...quirks and all....but there are a lot of people out there that think there getting a honda accord or something.Lets see...35 to 40year old engine design,10 to 12 year old frame design, and some semi modern suspesion, wheels, and brakes, put together buy some people that can't do the same thing twice right. My dog takes a shit more consistantly. We are cheap. Were all here on this board to live, breath, drink MG..and the by product of all this knowledge is that we learn something and therefore don't have to take our bike to the dealer I'm sidetracked now ..... andy

Al is correct. Valentine One radar/laser dtector. I also have the legal speeding LED in the helment/visor. Power the transmitter then the V1 and the little receiver in the helment flashes the LED at the same rate the dector is running. Ya know, its the little things you get use to and the headsup display is one of them. I don't know how I got on without it andy

I believe the OD of the throttle bodies is 50 mm...the intake side from the air box andy

Actually the older FJ's seem to me to be very similar in riding position. I could ride 5,6 700 mile days on the old FJ just as easy as the LeMans. To me, A new Guzzi will handle better than an old stock FJ. Remember 16" f & r rims, anti dive units that made the front brakes mushy .....but about 15 to 20 more ponys than the Guzzi. And as mention in a previous post... before the Guzzi and FJR was my 85 FJ1100...which was feeling tired and out of shape. I fixed that. Buy the way ...shameless plug... For sale 2003 FJR,2200miles, garage kept, throttle meisterand a few more extras 8500.00 I'm tired of walking around it in the garage and I'm not going to ride it andy

Here goes Al, the Lemans has 31,000 miles...the FJR has 2200. the FJR is a great bike, just not for me.It has tons of power and torque, huge gas tank, shaft drive. After riding old FJ's and now the LeMans, the FJR seems like riding a Goldwing. Its a japanese sewing machine. The riding position for me is to upright. Funny that everyone wanted to raise the bars even more...the are a bunch of kits available....and I was looking for some clipons or something. even bought the Spiegler superbike bar kit. Might have worked better with a drag bar.didn't change riding position that much.anyway, the LD guys love the bike and as Warchild says there are tons of "farkels" to do on the FJR. It's been said many times on this forum and other places and I agree...There isn't a motorcycle made that has as much character as a Moto Guzzi !!! I rode from Nashville to West Palm Fl last nov and had a flawless trip. We ran 90 and 100 the whole way down( i do have a val 1 with heads up display ) and the bike never missed a beat. I got about 38 to 40 mpg and had a blast ... Hope that was what you were looking for later andy
