  1. Thanks Roy for steering this electrical journey for me. Your diagrams are indispensable ! So to the quest. Every relay works in the starter relay position. (cranks bike) Relay 4 has no voltage on pin 87 or 30 (86mv) All fuses have 12.4 v insitu- my previous checks were with fuses removed therefore some voltages l and r Ecu case to neg battery terminal .8 ohm (key off) and 3.2 ohm with key on Ecu connector pin 17 and 26 to earth (300mv) Pin 87 of relay 5 to ecu connector 6 and 13 (17 ohms each) pin 87 of relay 5 to ecu connector 14 and 20 (.7 ohms) ecu connector pin 7 to 12 (680 ohms) When i was putting the battery in all i saw was a good white/blue arc. No obvious burning smell/smoke or obvious insulation melting on wires. I changed the tensioner as the spring had broken and the grooves from the chain were obvious. I had left this for a few months before doing it. I had a mild intermittent stumble on deceleration. The type i have in it has the spring stretched over an internal metal part of the timing case which may be the spring/designs weak point. I also have a high idle problem in hot weather that i hope will be fixed with valves done and throttle body rubbers refitted. Cheers Bruce
  2. Thanks for your time Roy. Just to check that i'm using the correct testing technique. I checked for voltage on each side of the fuses by using positive to fuse terminal and negative to battery/earth. I got these results Fuse 1 12v left 2 12v right 3 10.9v left, 12.3v right 4 12.3v left 5 12.4v left 6 12.3v right 7 10.2v left, 12.3v right 8 12.3v left Fuse 8 runs a line to an extra headlight relay (no electric petcock) Test point f 12.13v b 12.17v c 12.17v Relay 4 clicks when inserted but no voltage at terminal 30 Relay 5 has 12v at terminal 30 Relay 4 felt warm when removing Ecu earth appears in good condition and was attached when this mishap occurred. The bike cranks. I had the engine out and the crank sensor checked and wire re routed against frame. You mention that relay 5 can be affected by this. Or should the fuel pump prime at least once regardless of this ? Cheers Bruce
  3. So i had the motor out replacing the cam chain tensioner amongst other things and while putting the battery back in for the 100th time in 8 years i think i have fried the ecu with a nice spark from the battery. I now have power to starter and dash lights but no cycling sounds of fuel pump. I have Roys drawings but would like some step by step to testing the circuits to see if i need a new ecu. Cheers Bruce
  4. Two flywheels replaced at about those mileages. Forget the 8 years. Caught the first before major damage. The second went without much warning- Destroying the gearbox and creating a Moto Guzzi with a wet clutch. My personal recommendation would be to put a twin plate on it and be done with it. Sourcing a replacement gearbox could be a tedious and expensive exercise. Cheers Bruce p.s we thought back a few years back that this was related to a "bad batch" on the Scuras. Doesn't appear so.
  5. After thinking I had fixed the wheel bearing issue with measuring and fitting a new spacer I have chewed 2 wheel bearings on the caliper side after 30000 km of being fine. This time I'm going to on investigate the whole system and also align the rear caliper properly. Any ideas on the significance of the manual requirement to torque the axle on the housing side ? Cheers Bruce
  6. I would like to get hold of a complete V11 Lemans fairing with brackets to convert my 02 Scura. Needs to be shipped to Australia. Cheers Bruce
  7. Thanks motoguzznix Question answered Cheers Bruce
  8. Hi all. Wondering if the ecu reverts to the original factory map if it is left off battery for a long time. Cheers Bruce
  9. G'day Pete, Did a quick balance of tb's after i got the bike back together and the idle was around 1300 rpm 'vaugelias'. Didnt lock the tb wheel with anything so it may have wandered a bit while ive been on the road. Get back home Wednesday and shall check it out. Cheers Bruce p.s Thanks to your work for the engine overhaul documents posted at guzziteck.dk i was able to do the rear seal, flywheel, clutch with confidence due to your efforts.
  10. I have replaced my exploded single plate clutch/flywheel and gearbox with a twin plater. Now the clutch noise started off like a twin plate- noisy with lever pulled in. Now after 1000 km it is working fine but is noisy lever out. Any ideas ? Cheers Bruce
  11. It was a good deal (happy he didnt call you )- havent been abble to source a 2nd hand one here in Aus for past 4mths. Shall have the Scura on the road soon for some spring/summer riding. Cheers Bruce p.s Its a heavy little bugger ! The postage was nearly 3 times the purchase price
  12. That's the one John. By sorted i assume you mean it had the suspect parts replaced ? Cheers Bruce
  13. Anyone able to run the number for me ? Cheers Bruce
  14. The previous owner doesnt know if the work was done or not (mutilple owners). Is there a register in the U.S to see if the work has already been done ? Cheers Bruce
  15. After having my second flywheel explode with the ring gear blending my gearbox- I have bought a used one from a 2001 on Ebay Can someone tell me if this gearbox needs or has had the recall work done ? Vin no ZGUKRAKR41M113599 Cheers Bruce
  16. In relation to the short term idle that dies then fires right up again i copied this from the tps thread. G'day everyone. I found this while on the site mentioned below. With people setting up the bike switching on and off to stop bikes overheating between steps- This may help explain differences in initial idle setting and what you find on your first ride down the street. www.moto-one.com.au/performance/ducati2vthrottleb.html 'One very important thing to know about the 1.5M ECU is that it runs rich for the first 3,000 rotations every time you start the engine after turning the key or kill switch off and then on. I just thought (while typing this) that I don’t know what happens if the engine stalls and you restart it – I’ve never tested that. So best to assume it does it every time. And this is not just when it’s cold. Every time! Even when it’s hot. If you start it up and check the idle mixture quickly and it’s 5% CO after idling for 3 or so minutes (3,000 rotations at 1,100 RPM idle is about 3 minutes) the mixture will drop to maybe 1% CO or so and it’ll idle like crap. I usually allow at least 4 to 5 minutes for the mixture to settle after starting the engine. It’s very annoying when you’re in a hurry, as you have to turn the engine off then back on to initiate the setting procedure with the diagnostic tools, but that’s how it is. Cheers Bruce
  17. Any pictures of the Tenni flywheel ? Interested if the flywheel is the same as my recently exploded one or like Richards. Cheers Bruce
  18. Thanks for the pictures of your clutch/flywheel Richard. It appears that your flywheel is quite different to mine. I assume yours is the ram flywheel and mine has had bloody well 2 guzzi ones fitted and failed. My 2nd exploded one has a radius out to the ends as opposed to the stepped out flat pieces in your pictures. Have just read of a tenni failure in another thread and wonder what the flywheel looks like. So far do we have any major failures of the ram flywheel ?? Cheers Bruce The ring gear bolts chewed a hole in my gearbox- oh happy days. Just as well that i love this bloody bike.
  19. Haven't pulled it apart yet but my Scura has just made some terrible grating sounds and lost power after taking off from the lights. Flywheel/ring gear can be seen askew from the side inspection port. I'm going to see if this is a guzzi/ram replacement or a full ram one soon but in the meantime was interested in the lightened steel single plate that has been talked about in the past. Who has one and how is it ? Where can i get one and cost ? First flywheel lasted 23000 km and the replacement lasted 40000 km. only symptom this time was some vibration in clutch lever. Cheers Bruce p.s Can anyone post a pick of both sides of a confirmed guzzi flywheel so i can compare ?
  20. Look forward to trying them. Z6's are the best all round tyre I have had on the Scura. Cheers Bruce
  21. Thanks for the replies. Luci will be back on the road soon. Cheers Bruce
  22. I have a 2002 Scura and have just had the speedo fixed and about to install a new speedo cable. Is there a washer that fits on the inside of either of the end collars ? I have a Washer left that fits but not sure if it is supposed to be involved with this assembly and if so -where ? Cheers Bruce p.s Was wondering if its for the brass head temp sensor holder ??
  23. I did the same as Paul- Much better.
  24. Mine went at 22000 km. Full Ram replacement has now lasted another 40000km so far. Cheers Bruce
  25. What type of insulator material could be used to sleeve or wrap around the brass temp sensor holder and withstand the heat involved ? Cheers Bruce
