  1. Just a try to paraphrase the accessory set you wear on your bike. Prewarmed gloves, comfy cushions, things like that Hubert
  2. Acc. to what I know Electronics react rather sensitive to high temperatures. So heating devices used typically on cold days not necessarily must overstress a then also rather cool running regulator. It's a 1:1 thing, 20° less ambient result in 20° less unit temperature (in a stable system), this way giving you some extra range for extra load. The original alternator is rated 350W/14V/5000min-1. This value normaly indicates what load the item is able to stem within a given temperture range / a given max. temperature. That's how we at work are rating our products. Stay below this temperature and you can demand more output or load - maybe that's the way how they can rate their unit with specs. I think it's a trial an error thing, or at least a matter of an extra bunch of emails Doesn't anyone have the tools to measure the current out of the A/R when all systems are on? Have you measured the resulting voltage when you had your 'P/A/S' plugged in and working, Docc? Hubert
  3. Time will tell Those units are cheaters and so not without their special pitfalls. Having failed sadly on the Ducati alternator topic I'd nonetheless risk another bet , this time that this particular Ducati part should work perfectly in your Guzzi. Once you've got it stuffed away nicely under the seat, of course, with all the extra harness and such. Remember to keep the nice golden letters shine up as soon as you lift the seat ... Hubert
  4. I don't think that this lump of alternator finds place in a Ducati engine. It maybe manufactored by a company by the same name, but this has only historical reasons. 'Ducati Energia' since half a century or so has nothing to do with 'Ducati Mecchanica' or whatever is left of this company nowadays. The internet knows more about it. When I bought my V11 heated grips were installed already. I used them for two or three seasons, then I wanted to get rid of the ugly China looking power switch. Besides that I didn't find hot grips to be comfortable or really handwarming, especially under wet conditions. Nevertheless these grips, or the additional load they induced, never caused any problems for the battery or the light output. I just didnt like them. Hubert
  5. Well, maybe that's the right time for the German phrase of the day (or as the Chinese say 'Study well and make daily progress!'): Click me Hubert
  6. That's another weak point of this unit, isn't it? Hubert
  7. The two connectors in question are behind the regulator, so all the shorting or not shorting regulator type questioning could be a typical 'Other Connectors' Problem'. Also I'd guess that a power loss at this position, between output and reference input, will cause the regulator to boost up its output to reach the voltage level it's waiting for. Besides all that I still think that sticking to a product coming from a company like Ducati Energia, which have a lot of experience also in the Automotive Business, is not the worst idea. They sell this product in huge quantities to most if not all the european bike and scooter companies, BMW included. Hubert
  8. For aftermarket bullet connectors I'd choose something like this. The problem is that you can't crimp them, and soldering connectors is not a good idea in this context. At least those gold connectors were strong enough for the expected load. Hubert BTW: You either crimp or solder, crimping and soldering makes the connection worse, not better.
  9. so ya left hand big end let go right? what else are ya mumbling bout sorry dont get it? Indeed, that's a bit cryptic. High speed and rpms - that's what these engines are designed for. Hubert
  10. You don't have a bit more details? Was it 'spun bearing'? Hubert
  11. Yup, then start the engine and hold it immediately at speed/under pressure for a while. Otherwise you wont get seated new rings in NICASIL, NIGUSIL or whatever else of bone hard and slick surface actually is on the market. Haven't I mentioned it: running in engines is a somewhat religious thing. And not one of the flowery lala ones Hubert
  12. Ring seating is a delicate topic. Some even recommend to mount them and the pistons without oil at all to allow proper seating during the first 1 or two minutes they see action. Hopefully these aren't the last ones, too^^ Anyway, after a certain time any seating should have taken place and give room for friction modified oils, at least if this is the only reason that speaks against them. Hubert
  13. Perfect stunt, Bill. Once you can walk away it immediately becomes an interesting story, well worth reading down the whole write up. I lost my front wheel some years ago on a molten patch of bitumen, hardly 2" in diameter. Hit it exactly when on the brake entering a left turn. Same as you I found it most interesting that good riding gear and some luck lets you stand up and walk away just as if you were a MotoGP hero Concerning the broken/lost rear brake lever: be glad that nowadays Guzzi has moved the plugs from below the heads to right in the center of them Get well soon, btw. Hubert
  14. Have you tried gOOgle? Their homepage says it's good for Beemers (and others, too), planes and boats. Anyway, it looks as being an interesting product if you can believe what they say. As long as it smells good it might well be so I'd expect a mixture of Ballistol and Fluid-Film Hubert PS: Ballistol tastes good even.
  15. 30,- Euro would be great. Often stupid washers cost more^^ While you are at S/D search for this number: 01112800 Hubert
  16. You're sure the gas isn't coming from the hose? The hose often leaks at this point after you had it off. Try to retighten it carefully. A 7mm nut is best for that job, screw drivers are worst. Hubert
  17. The warning light has no ground as such. That's what he said - and it's clearly shown also on the mounting instructions. Connect the light on one side to 12V and on the other side to the correct regulator input. Hubert
  18. This is the important part: The control light is fed from a switched 12V source and on the other side finds its ground going through the regulator, i.e. a switch inside the regulator. Do not disconnect the regulator itself while the engine is running (I think I read something like that, disconnecting the ground wire, in your last post). At idle the alternator output usually is not very much above 12V. That's why the lights get brighter with rising RPMs. Hubert
  19. That sounds reasonable. Have you checked the cable whether it's grounded? What if you disconnect the cable at the regulator. It should stay on if it's grounded elsewhere.
  20. I wouldn't worry too much about the 13.7. If you could verify them then it's fine. Below 12V of course is a bit odd because the battery alone should have something well above 12 V. What does Electrosport say? Don't you have a Ducati regulator laying around somewhere? In real life they're better than they might look in forums, at least not really worse than most if not all of what you can buy elsewhere. Hubert
  21. What others say .. not wanting to make fun out of your misery, of course. Hubert PS: GuzziMoto swapped his forks against Suzuki ones', didn't he?
  22. The cushions themselves were the correct ones?
  23. Yes, Rosso Mandello is the same as Verde Legnano, just a different tone Hubert
  24. Try starting a few times and then check the temperature of the starter at the rear end. If it's hot, might be very hot even, then probably the magnets inside the pole tube have come loose. To me it sounds like this, and it's not an uncommon problem. You can remove the cap at the rear end and look at the brushes. If the magnets are broken you should already see particles of them coming out. Over here, where Valeo starters are common, replacement pole tubes, brushes and brush holders are easily sourceable. Don't know about NZ. You could check Beemer forums, too, by the way. Hubert
  25. In the German V11 Forum we recently had one asking whether it's normal to find oil under the valve covers. That not enough, he continued he were anxious this could cause problems during his oncoming holliday trip. So, from time to time, the only chance to keep a forum at life and interesting is to get very off topic even. Even interesting threads can get spiced up further No need to spell Ohlins or C/C correctly if you don't know what it is. Hubert
