Docc, it's a difference whether you are charging a rather empty battery or whether you are just keeping a charged one charged. An empty one does need this high voltage to achieve some movement or kind of stirring caused by those typical gas bubbles known from every lead acid battery above a certain voltage. No so with a more or less fully charged one. Voltages above 14V in this case just mean stress and I believe forced ageing for the cells. I have mine running at 13.8 and I always see 12.6V at the poles the next morning. That's good. Using an expensive quality meter maybe would give me 12.846V, who know's Hubert

Ken, your writeup doesn't make sense. Adding this diode can and will affect only the cut off voltage of your regulator. It cannot and so probably won't change the voltage at idle. Besides that it will never unleash any hidden powers of the alternator. This means, in case you see 12.5V at idle with headlamps and heated grips on, you could add whatever gizzmo the market or the internet offers, you would never see more than exactly the same voltage at the same rpm as without having spent the money and time for it. This petcock is just a small spring balanced plunger. The spring is weak enough to get sucked down as soon as the pump starts working. Unplug the cable and try it. After having sheared off the cables of mine I rode the bike daily for over two weeks before I found time to look after it. No problems at all. Hubert

The bike should start nevertheless. Sometimes the wires get sheared off when you put down the tank on the ground. It will rest on these cables and sooner or later they'll get cut. Search ebay for Cali versions for instance. The solenoid can be changed separately. Hubert

Yep. Fits for all big 2 valvers. It's cheaper than the original one, but I see definitely no need to open the engine just for exchanging a good tensioner with another one. Hubert

Actually they don't. They use the frame for venting the crankcase. More precisely, they use the frame to separate blown out oil from the air and to condense the fumes/vapors.

Roadsmart or Roadsmart II. Or Bridgestone BT023 (I think). Do a very good job until the very end and are good when it rains, too. I don't like the [edit]Stradas the Angel ST [/edit], as they are no good tyres when the profile fades. Really bad in my eyes are the Michelin. They last very long, are good in the rain, but on curvy roads they wear rather V-shaped. That may look nice on a V-bike but riding them is a different story. Especially in the wet such a tilting tyre is hell for my nervs. So in the end they don't last longer than the two mentioned above but cost remarkably more. No idea what Metzelers do. I hate them for giving up the best tyre ever for the Tontis and so forcing me to switch to the small Bridgestones. In fact they can't be really bad as it's one company with Pirelli. Hubert I forgot to say that I can't remember that the Roadsmarts were thought of as A1 tyres at anytime.

I'd think of 15 km/l as still acceptable, rather bad nonetheless. I've heard of others making up to 22km out of one liter. My own makes 17 (KR 2000). While you talk about strange units: multiply the above values by 2.35 to get US numbers (MPG). For "Imperial" numbers the factor is 2.83 Hubert

I do not have the best experiencies with Hammerite. Used the red one as a perfect match for the red parts on my Sport, but it becomes rather brittle after some time. Tried a black aerosol can on some bicycle parts and experienced lots of bubbles. Nevertheless I still have two can's on the shelf for parts like plate holders etc. Hubert

Andy, as long as it's only the red indicator light that acts funny consider to either ignore it or stick a small piece of tape over it. These lights don't necessarily show you whether the battery gets charged or not. Mine for instance is on when it rains, at least it's on the next day then after a night of soaking/damping. The charging system works well right off the factory btw. No real need to add cables and/or other things. There's, as so often, room for optimizations, sure, but usually people don't have the tools for proper wiring work - what then in most cases makes things worse, not better. I can see and understand your point. The assembling is one thing. The other thing is the plug and play. When I had my MKI ready the standard map that came along with it worked fine. But naturally I knew things better - I think I'm quite through now with all the options this unit offers. Anyway, I can't say whether the bike nowadays really runs better as it did with the standard Sport 1100 map. I just know it was fun, and that this engine is more or less undestroyable Hubert

I would not say that it requires more effort than other ecus. Alas, as things are, most people use the additional options it offers for screwing up things rather than optimise them. Hubert

Actually there's a freeware available for the 15M ecus. Search for it here or contact Paul for further details. All you need is some proper cables. It allows you to check the tps readings and idle position. Maybe even the CO trim is accessible (haven't tried it myself). More would be pure bling in nearly all cases as the OEM maps offer plenty of room/space for exhaust and other modifications. Hubert

MIVV. But be aware, the grawl is not for the faint hearted. And they feel a bit lanky at midrange. Those black silicone boob caps shown on that other Greeny would make the perfect extension for them and vice versa I like them because you can easily adjust their position to your gusto, as shown on my bike.
