Or, in our case: Moto Guzzi
luhbo replied to belfastguzzi's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
You know, even your avatar is stolen. Why do guys like you show at least a little phantasy only when it comes down to Guzzi-bashing? hubert -
here is a link to a german product, for instance. It seems as if this technology has become quite popular in the meantime, although it's not an easy one. What is not a good thing is the fact, that in most cases at least 3 cells are in parallel. In this case two third's of the cells can't be balanced what then very quickly can lead to dead cells, means 2/3 loss of capacity. A starter battery most of the time gets charged, so that might not be a real killer argument. On the other hand: why do people so often complain about discharged batteries then? hubert

Internet rumour says this engine once was shown inside the factory as an official works prototype. Personaly I don't believe this. They're no fools down there. I'd suggest the way BMW choose after they had decided to press out a serious sportster. Who knows, maybe Piaggio will come up with a modified Moto-GP Aprilia in dark red with golden wings once the new rules for Moto-GP are out and valid. Hubert

Yes. Good hunt, by the way. How did you dig this out again? I'm not sure what's the idea behind this solution, resp. whether it's a good idea. I'm afraid the main effect of these parts is adding some weight and making the engine breathing even more vulnerable as it already is. hubert

Interesting. That's what I thought also. Where do all those zillions of wild animals go actually? What I heard the flooded area is as big as Germany, France and Spain together. Indeed biblical proportions as Jaap said in the first post. hubert

Years ago, I think, I came over a Japanese homepage selling frame stiffeners for the V11 (and maybe Sportis as well). It's been two struts, going from the oil cooler screwholes up to the main tube or so. It's been discussed here as well. These struts probably won't take load from the engine in case it falls over, but who knows for what it may be good in other cases. hubert

The Valeo (or similar) still is the starter to choose. The biggest advantage is its weight and the possibility to use tiny little batteries. The early Valeos trew their magnets because of a lack of torsional stiffness of the pole tube I was told, what sounds very reasonable. Four seasons ago I had to replace the pole tube of my Valeo and never had any starter resp. starting problems since that. Two things to remember: - the pole tubes are delicate - don't knock on them (as you did on Bosches) - don't buy pole tubes for Beemers, they're different hubert

Algery, Maroc, Israel, something like that I'd say. -
Close to the action

Walter Röhrl - this man is legend! People came close, yes, but have you seen how many attended? That's one gigantic football stadium along the track. One fault and it would have been a massacre of really olympic dimensions hubert -

Hm, I was told you use two bricks for jump starting aggressive horses. Now it makes sense why it's said you should never jump start a V11. I've also heard people talking about piloting a motorcycle, as if they could fly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfE47Cd2WvQ hubert -

Then, could you say 'a driver rides a bike' or would this be the sociolectic overkill? Or what if you accidentally let slip a phrase like "a horse drives its rider crazy"? In case one comes up with an easy answer we could take the next step and clarify the difference between push and jump start. hubert -
This exhaust looks like a real good idea. The bike should hardly dig in deeper as up to this line, and then at once you have two nice grips to push it out again About the frame (should you really worry about this point): in 2005 I sent my V11 straight into the crash barrier, sliding though, nevertheless I had to pay for two segments and one support - besides a mark on one fork leg, a slightly damaged front rim and equally "modified" steering stops the V11 and especially the frame behaved as if this was it's daily business. The front fender was completely shattered of course - and for your purposes is a bit too short anyway. That's one part I'd replace for such a trip. hubert

Loosen bolt 1 one quarter (or more) of a turn (while holding the nut on it's other end), move bolt 2 to the outer hole, readjust the rod length and Luigi (and Pete) might be your friends again. Keep the fingers off the gearbox itself. hubert

Looks like someone did already repair it before you bought the bike. Or are you the first owner? I'd take some 2-component epoxy and rebuild the things myself. hubert

As long as I read this correctly as some sort of transition problem and if this really is something that hurts you so much you want to spend some money on it, then TuneEdit is the only affordable solution to cure it. A PC cannot address that sort of problem. hubert

Now that's an interesting approach. Completely diametral to the "Screw this and that, then make a test ride" methods usually recommended here Thanks a lot. hubert

For Baldini (and others)

I'm glad you like it, knowing that you were complaining about something completely different, though I found the link while I was searching for TWN pictures, having started my motorcycling career on one of those: hubert -
Check this out: All you can 'read' You could start right with the first album, or, as we have our own and satisfying hooters thread, scroll down instead to "Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum Birmingham/Alabama". Not too many Guzzis though ... Hubert

Keith, still down? Before you start to @#!#$# up your gearbox, for instance, how about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV4IjHz2yIo hubert

Don't mind, that's just a minor winter depression. Open your heart and let some sunshine in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MhucajH46U Belsy, an orphan from India, brought up in South Tyrol, together with her boyfriend, also South Tyrol (Italy), with the winning song of the "Grand Prix der Volksmusik 2006". She started for Germany by the way. hubert

Thanks for answering. Merlinbooks led me to Redline Books and I think that is what I was looking for. Alas, the book in question is out of print what definitely is the same as out of stock Now, does someone incidentally have a spare copy of "Japanese Grand Prix Motorcycles"? hubert

Hi all, I'm searching for a link to a site dedicated to British Vintage bikes, which I think someone posted here a while ago. Tried to find it using the search function - which delivered the entire forum more or less 1:1 The link lead to a web shop wich also contained a small but well sorted number of books. Does anyone remember this link, too? Thx in advance Hubert

These are straight cut pinions, so what you hear might be normal. Mine is singing in every gear, I mean 4th up, and I really like it I can say. Have you ever heard a straight cut Fuller lorry gearbox under heavy load ? hubert And, btw., some cool avatar you have
