  1. At least the u-joint points on six. This reminds me of some stories of cruel accidents whereafter people whispered to each other: "The needle still stood blocked at 180 !" Hubert
  2. Who said you're making stuff like that up? Who? Me? Where? And who says being a dealer, official or not, or being a trained mechanic even, makes a person become the ultimate instance? A lot of people around here and outside the internet will agree that most Guzzis were ruined at official or inofficial dealers, or repaired at costs way over that what really had been necessary. Besides that, everybody could look on the Aprilia server and read those ominous official but nevertheless public documents. The point to be discussed here should be, what ridiculous interpretations of whatever vague informations you're selling here. Look, Greg for instance takes a shop manual - full stop: a translated shop manual - and points on the word "cast iron". Then he writes here in all publicity this was evidence enough for bad engineering at Guzzi/Aprilia/wherever. This is just ridiculous and doesn't really serve your proud profession's reputation, does it? Or he looks at two tappets and to him it seems as if the new one was slightly more convex as the old one. Damned right: another even more waterproof evidence for bad engineering Has any of you officials ever seen an official manufacturing drawing of one single engine part? Of an actual engine? Guzzi, Aprilia, HD? Hubert
  3. Under conditions as you've described them above mine shows the same symptoms. 120°C oil temperature is hot. My engine tends to idle very low at such temperatures, your's probably does the same. I like to ignore the oil light under these conditions either or eventually hold the idle rpm a bit higher, especially while approaching a stop. Next time grab together all the balls you have and rise the rpm a bit, 1500 will do already. I'm sure the light will go off. Hubert
  4. Sintered brake pads?
  5. Nice to hear that. But what will they do with their Brevas, now that they've switched over to the dark side? Chris probably gives a nice pic on his Buell, the bike so short and he so tall and thin Hubert
  6. You're ill, sorry. That's paranoid. There can be written [EDIT:] in those charts [:EDIT] what the translation programm wants. [EDIT:] What would it proove?[:EDIT] Have you ever looked at the "drawings" they supply in these manuals? Wonder why no one mentioned that so far. Look at these drawings, do you believe an engine with parts like this would last longer than 5 minutes? Hubert
  7. Your 'Bad Language' is welcome That's one reason, besides others, that I read your posts, this forum. Alas, being not an English native speaker I'm not able to use all what I can pick up here myself. I could buy the colors - using them would not necessarily always give an acceptable picture. Hubert
  8. Does someone know what happend to V11UK (I hope I remember is ID correctly)? He and his wife (Helen?) used to join every meeting, not only on your island, all over Europe I think. Are they alright? Hubert
  9. A good question, indeed! Edit: I have to apologize I think, maybe at least. Could be I used the "quote" function the wrong way. It should have been read like this: ------------------------------ Greg: ......when the real explanation is just bad engineering on Aprilia's part..... Me: .....Your word on that? Greg: ....My opinion..... ------------------------------ or: --------------------- Greg: ..... Cast iron is not conventionally "hardenable," so how could a vendor have under-hardened them.... Me: ....That's new to me. Wikipedia or a local Guzzi-Guru? Greg: ....As I said, the Piaggio parts diagrams clearly say that the early tappets are cast iron and that the later ones are steel. No guesswork involved. --------------------------------- HTH.
  10. Some really have problems with reading a text and understanding it as well. So far I thought this was more a problem of nowadays' youngsters. Hey Pete, I never told anyone to drive around with a misaligned shaft. It's all just about this semisense of huge forces killing this or that. Such things just don't happen. Hubert
  11. Here a Hubert only will do, thanks. Anyway, my posting has nothing to do with you personally or with any principles. How come? It's only what you write. The content is wrong, that's all, not the name below it. We had this once already. If you had really understood what's going on at the ends of such a misaligned driveshaft you'd be more carefull with bringing this in context with a snapped off pinion, wildly guessing about enormous forces. Remember, the beemers always used one u-joint only, and they did go up and down, especially under load. What did they do to eliminate those "enormous forces" you're talking off? Hubert
  12. Would you sell me your old one? Hubert
  13. Mr Field, sit down, you're childish. You're giving answers to questions I haven't asked. Did you stamp your foot while you wrote them down?
  14. Nice! What cans? Hubert
  15. Your word on that? That's new to me. Wikipedia or a local Guzzi-Guru? Really, do they? What does it mean, "(they) appear to have more..."? You've seen a picture on the web or what? A 1248x1024 highres shot? Let me know when you'll call him, so I can stand upright as long as you two talk to each other. Or how about a conference for three? (Not me, no worries.) Hubert
  16. Well said. That's one reason why some say it would be only good for Guzzi, for the brand, if it would leave Mandello as soon and quick as possible. On the other hand, there are big suppliers situated there like Lafranconi which deliver good quality to BMW for instance. So it's not too much to do with the climate down there. Hubert

    The MyECU thread

I found the same for the snorkels. Remove the snorkels and it safes you up to 10% of gas. It's probably the weight advantage Hubert
  18. No excuse of course. But is this an excuse to bash the designers and engineers down there all day long? Hubert
  19. It's probably not a problem of the engine design or even of an improper material pairing. I wonder where such informations come from. Instead it's again quite certainly just an issue of bad supplier quality as so very often with Guzzi. Hubert
  20. No, that's not correct. It's not as it should be this way, but it won't damage anything. Hubert
  21. THX for that. "Sacred Cows" - good title. Also very worth reading I find this: Cooool Blue Hubert
  22. Silly question maybe: your avatar looks like your LeMans had the pump already inside the tank. Or am I wrong? Hubert
  23. The sump is nearly in the center of the bike, don't know whether you can lift the rear wheel there. Besides that, with some wood between jack/block and sump it should stand the load. Hey, it's just a bike. Hubert
  24. Naw, not at all. That's quite common in Rome as much I as I could watch it so far. Normally he had to battle against dozens of scooters at every semaphore but not against cars or pedestrians. Life is definitely different there, I'm not sure whether I could stand it daily, whole year long. Hubert
  25. Dave Graham is perfectly right with his observations. - The Siemens on my KR have seen nearly 100.000km or 9 years now - they still work fine and reliable. - The "Master of Relais and Everything Else On Bikes and Elsewhere" has tested probably every relais brand being available on the international market and found none but one of them satisfying (he has to use relays nevertheless, so probably the last brand tested luckily was the best). - David uses Bosch already now, and they didn't work either (before he'd fixed the rest around them).
