  1. He's just turning the key, not pushing any buttons, at least not on his bike. Knowing nothing about CARCed electricity I assume it's a fault in your network (for using a computer term here). I know of faulty resp. badly sealed connectors. Have you tried to disconnect the head unit and clean the connectors? WIth head unit I mean the dashboard with onboard computer and what ever more. What if you have the kill switch off, turn the key on, wait let's say 20 seconds (more than the 'usual' delay) and then flip the killer on? Then does it also take 5 seconds or so until the system wakes up? Hubert
  2. Is he? Or is this just part of his business image? I think someone's posted he owned several bikes, of course even one or more Guzzis among them. I mean, this guy is not a silly one, and no poor one either, so it's pretty obvious he ownes some stuff like this as well. I remember one of his shows I incidentally could watch around 10 years or so ago. Topic was the decline of the English car industry and whether BMW could turn things around with Rover. This was so brilliant and spot on, with an English speaking Austrian BMW chairman, top interesting mechanical facts about Triumph engines and Morris cars, the then new tiny big Rover 75 (or was it 85) that even my sons still today remember this show, and they were around ten then. Whether he is anti bike or not: four wheels are faster then two, and this monster has 600 bhp per ton if I remember right. Hubert

    Don't forget that you have done this. The idea behind telling you to shift this value to 800 was only to make sure that you really have the spark at or even slowly behind TDC until the engine in fact fires and starts moving. The given 500 are normaly perfectly working. If you have it at 500/600 you can better finetune the starting behaviour of your engine. But as long as your engine only kicks back this finetuning is not yet on your ToDo list. Hubert
  5. Weird. Hard-chroming is the last thing I'd try for this purpose. Maybe the bike runs with it, but to me it seems more like a proof for the "Guru Come - Guru Go" thesis. Hubert

  7. I'll email him tomorrow. I think on his bike the damage was on the right side, but that's only guessing at the moment. Could be because the sidestand is on the left so you're talking always about the right side while your standing in front of a bike. I just hope you'll have acceptable weather for your meeting and a real nice time then. I was watching the thread all over winter, but it's too far away for a weekend's trip and I'm in hollidays exactly 2 weeks later (for 2 weeks) so it was not possible for me to come. I has planned it in the same way as Jaap does it now, having seen Cornwall and the Borders mostly just from inside a car so far. Driving is not that funny there. Not because all people are driving on the wrong side, but either you're on boring camera supervised highways or you're easily stuck for hours in so very romantic dense and dark alleys where you see nothing from the landscape at all. I always thought on a bike you must have different horizons, and the pictures posted in the meeting thread proofe that it is possible. Maybe later this year. If McGuzzi is right with the Mandello gossip about an already cancelled GMG this year then a week or so on the island could be possible. You've to have hope, you know Hubert
  8. David, any good, relaxing news in the meantime? Last week I incidentaly met an old friend from scool days who, after 200.000 more or less trouble free km on an old 2V BMW-GS, now owns a Stelvio, comuting 100km daily as long as there's no ice. Ofcourse his engine failed as well. He called his dealer and told him he was worrying about some rapidly growing noises. "Ride on" this mastermind told him, "that's a Guzzi, they're noisy". She made it exactly one more day 'till it was quite. Now the dealer had to pick it up. Then he ordered the parts, got them after 2 weeks and then let the bike stand for another 2 f#*+g weeks because he thought those noobs at Guzzi had only sent him half of his order. You know, 8 valves - 8 tappets. 100% Superhero. With cape! 2000 km later he had to see him again for making him do the 10.000km service. Of course Superhero tried to refuse changing the oil fliter because he had done it only 3 weeks ago already! The problem is, my friend thinks he has to stay with him because of the warranty and because he's the only official dealer under 100km around of him. The good thing is, nevertheless he still is full of stories how great the bike runs, how strange it behaves over 5000 rpm and what an exclusive feeling it is to have left the beamer mob behind, finally.   10. On mine there's none, and in fact there weren't enough threads left for a washer and the self locking plastic ring. At this time maybe it were the axes that were cut too short Nevertheless I as well got enough comments from the usual smartasses, like "under every nut must be a washer". Nuts I say. Mine is a 2000 as well, and (actually I think) I'll keep it, should it be only for tire kicking from time to time Hubert
  11. They should have been on the replacement flywheel at least. It's dark in there, and they're in fact not easy to see. Hubert
  12. Now that's one good reason for such an effort, at least. Anyway, if your frame was bent after this crash you couldn't have aligned the wheel this way. Different to chain driven bikes where you can move the wheel in Y-direction shifting the swing arm AND turn it around Z by adjusting the chain tensioners. Hubert
  13. Oh no, not at all. Its the same nonsense as so many other threads. Just remember the "riding height adjusting" fights here. The V11 engine is mounted 5mm out of the centerline, the rear drive is hanging heavily to the same side - and you really think it makes sense to mount the rear wheel basically with the help of a micrometer? Most of us are approaching their late 40ies and have problems to stand or sit upright longer than 30 minutes, but our rear wheels must be centered with zero tolerance? Zero tolerance to what? Have you or others ever thought of checking the front wheel spacer for instance? What if this part is out of tolerance? Will your bike behave better if you adjust the rear swing arm to a misaligned front wheel? Can you compensate this by putting your house keys in your other pocket? What if your left mirror has a different angle, size or surface than the right one? Man, these are questions really waiting for answers. Let this thread get closed.     I'd say that's your problem. Stop messing with the map. Go for a sufficient battery. If jump starts are real easy then starts with an additionaly hooked car battery should give the same pleasant effect. And of course TDC=1. My bike insists on that. This "several turns without ignition to gain inertia" idea in my eyes is not a very good one. It could work if your engine had a valve lifter and a good flywheel. Everything else was just wasted energy which you could seriously need to get a good spark instead. Hubert
  15. Do not wire it like on the V11. It has a relay for the head lights, but only in theory. The switch is situated between starter relais and bulb, dumb enough. Long ago there were some posts here about this topic. For some (the usual suspects so to say) an additional relay to release the light switch turned the night literally into bright daylight Hubert

    Greenmonster, are you able to log the MyEcu? If so, could you post a logfile of your starting attempts? Alternatively, is your starter ok? You don't have a Valeo in your bike? Have you checked the battery voltage while you're pressing the starter button/while the starter is working? Another check: if you're trained enough to jump start your bike (pushing or down hill), have you done so already, with your actual map? How does it behave then, does it start remarkably better if you jump start it ? And finaly: is it engine temperature dependent? Same bad starting cold and hot? Hubert

Then, at least for me, these possibilities make the MyEcu the ecu of choice. It's not that most people should really have problems with the OEM units. Hubert

    Set IgnAdvance to zero and then play around with this value while you're flashing the TDC mark. I don't have the equipement, but I guess doing this could give you the answer. Hubert

    I think that all the up- and download work incl. translation is done be ECUControl. It opens the .ecu file (map) extracts what it needs and sends this to the ecu. But as it is a rather plain frontend it is rather unflexible regarding the structure of the map. This means you should be careful where you insert your comments. Here in Germany for instance we're using commas (,) instead of dots (.) for floating numbers. The point is that EcuControl doesn't make a plausibility check for this. Same with the (O1) (O0) map. It's very easy to replace accidentaly an O with a 0. EcuControl reads it in and seems to upload it into the ecu. But in fact it writes just bulls*#t what leads to "unpredictable results". Hubert

    I'm quite sure that these comments are not transfered to the MyEcu. Write what you want, upload it, download it, and you'll find all your comments reset to defaults. As Cliff writes somewhere: maps are software and should be treated like that - commented, archived etc. Hubert

    No, I won't, sorry. I have a different wish list and don't get it sorted out. If you start such a campaign you'll get an endless list of what would be nice. Most things on it were of cosmetic nature, some things I would need but you not at all and so on. Hubert
