  1. Or maybe something like this: http://www.quat-d.com/php/downloadFile/dow...if&online=1 These two holes are probably better than the wee v11's one. Hubert

Are you kidding or are you writing tounge in cheek? Parallel, seriell, that's nonsense. I was talking of one fuse for one filament, or one for low- and one for high beam. Great to know! Just take off the red light and you transfer the fuse problem into a problem of direction, forward backward, right or wrong, so to say. That should be easyer to handle as long as one keeps in mind: high beam now means brake. Hubert

That's what I was thinking of. If this one fuse goes it'll let you all alone in the dark. Probably this won't happen when you check the lights in the garage but, as it's usually the case when shit happens, in a rainy night in a bad corner. Hubert

Sorry, no sketch available on my side. But this one fuse can become quite annoying when it suddenly blows in the dark. Hope this brings light into your darkness Hubert
  5. Instead of my Porsche it should have been a Lamborghini, but then, sadly, I couldn't pronounce it :( Hubert

Nevertheless you may think about installing two 15A fuses instead of one 20A. Hubert
  7. despite the Quat-D will never perform like Mistrals or the even bigger Ti-Cans do. For every day use they are nonetheless the better choice, great sound, HUGE MIDRANGE!! (at least for me), great look, unfortunately a bit pricey and not really matching the bike it was designed for! A member of the German forum was stopped by two quite upset policemen "How come that you're driving around with no exhaust at all!?!?". A short hint about the ECE stamp quickly gave them back the good feeling to have met a loyal and honourable tax payer and all went their ways again. Hubert

There is no need for a separate ground conection, 'cause every harness and subharness has a ground cable spliced in. Check your connectors and make sure the contacts are clean. That will do. You own a V11, not a 1100 Sport, don't you? In case you prefere to just add a separate ground cable you will not fix the root cause, as my Nippon colleagues would say. Hubert
  9. Well, the weak top end brings the V11 definitely below 200 km/h, that's truely a shame. On the other hand, just only thinking about speeds over 200 km/h would make you a valid candidate for special observation under aspects defined by the patriot act, wouldn't it? There is a different DB eater available that should be less restrictive, so a better top end should be possible anyway. Sound is different to Mistrals, but that does not mean less impressive. It's a perfect streetfighter thing, spitting and hissing between waiting cars at the red light while you exercise your right hand a little. Go for a 100 km tour and you're addicted. And all that street legal! Mistrals aren't! In Europe this can cost you your bike, at least you have to walk home, and don't talk of the money the cops claim. Because of the cracks and other problems it's actually available only in a fully closed catalysed version. No possibility to remove the catalyser. Hubert
  10. The best explanation I ever found was "ACES of WW1". That's how BFG said it and that's right on the spot. But, I find the quality of it is poor, and the ex.-hole def. is too small. Above 6500 the bike runs against rubber. That's a pitty, because with Mistrals this was the point where the music began to play. Another problem is that an O2 probe will interfere with the subframe, another point that shows that the whole thing is a bit misdesigned. But Look'n Feel of it is great. That's at least one thing you will get for nearly 900,- Euros. Hubert
  11. Oh, it's him then. I thought I knew this face from somewhere. And before you reply, I'm positively sure that it was the face that looked familiar, if ever... He already announced a new film starting next year. It will be playing in Austria. The Austrians already go nuts just because of this announcement. This shows how cool this forum really is. Here nobody goes nuts because of things like that. Hubert
  12. Has anybody here seen his last film already, him acting as a cultural ambassador in the US? Hubert
  13. That's fine. Then why do we not stop sending people in new wars, so that those could be remembered one day as Grandpas? That's the point that should not be missed. We remember and the next day we start it all over again. That's not keeping those who have fallen in respectfull remembrance. They were cheaten then, and now they're cheaten again, as long as people pop up at their graves from time to time and mumble something about "not died for nothing" and the very same moment start a new war somewhere else. I'm very sure that in countries with a vivid history of war very large groups of veterans can be found that fight against war more or less exactly for these reasons. "Look what happened to us! Stop making happen this to others!"
  14. Thanks for that hint, Carl. I'm doing, better I was doing , the same sometimes. But the filaments for sure are not designed to light both at the same time. The excessive heat will kill them pretty likely. So when do I have both running: when I think I don't see enough. When will they likely fail: when I don't see enough. Exactly the "right" scenario... Hubert
  15. Well, I have no idea how different the parts actually are. I just wish I could have installed an old clutch in my V11. I have a very early V7sport one laying around. That's a heavy piece! I thought maybe with some combination of new disks and the old metalparts it could work. To be honest, I see no point to open my V11 just because of that idea. If I had it open, then probably. Hubert
  16. Now, that's exactly the point. What for? Why did they have to fight for recognition all their life? Because no one in the land that sent them was interested in what they did after they came home. Maybe because they've lost? Does win or lose make any difference for those who are dead, blown up, mutilated, disabled? Hubert
  17. To be a real veteran you should have killed at least one human, but I'm not sure whether "friendly fire" would count. In reality those real veterans are quite rare now here over, so the veteran clubs nowadays allow nearly everybody to become a member, just because it makes no real club life if you are only 2 or 3 oldtimers. Hubert
  18. I'm thinking of swapping my V11 clutch with something like the old Eldo units. I can not see any advantages such a light clutch and flywheel gives me for my every day use of the V11. But I can see disadvantages like higher idle (just a personal quirk) or a very direct response of the whole drivetrain to any irregularities in the synchronisation or to mapping flaws. I find my older Guzzis to be operating smoother and I think a big part of this smootheness is induced by the heavy flywheels they have. I remember to have once read that one of the biggest problems that Dr.John had with the Guzzi engineering in the beginning was caused by his insistence on a lighter flywheel for his early race engines. He needed the help of DeTomaso to get what he wanted. If you're planning to use it for endurance races then take the clutch that lasts. If there are two good solutions, take the heavier one, or the one with the bigger momentum. But I'm no racer, so it's just my Hubert
  19. 40 years? So you've started your automotive career with 6V installations probably, same as I did. My first car was a Beetle. I can say the 6V installation was more or less all this car had for heating the interiour, but not for operating high/low beam or brake lights. Without relais you could really watch them as they slowly went from dark to less dark after hitting the switch. Hubert
Nur die Mütter weinten + Only the mothers were crying Hüben - und drüben. + this side - and that side (Bert Brecht, 1914, "Modern Legend") More All Time Classics, also from "The Old Europe": "Mothers! That was the fate of your sons in the war: first murdered, then robbed to the skin and then left as grub for the animals." (Ernst Friedrich: War Against War! 1924) "But all this "heroism" is a lie. Horror is the reality." (Ernst Friedrich: War Against War! 1924) Veterans Day? I thought they were all killed? Hubert
  21. They loosen only if the connection was poorly designed. A correct nut and bolt connection won't come loose, that's fact. Just a few examples: connecting rod bolts. They don't come loose. Cylinder head screws. They don't come loose etc. etc. If someone looses his oil filter then something went wrong before, was done wrong before, or something was poorly designed. And there is one other thing I'm absolutely sure of: should there be some forces aplied to the filter, be they dynamical or what ever, that are strong or just persistent enough to loosen and to screw off a correctly mounted filter then they before will get rid of this hose clamp as well. As I still don't buy it, as you say, I just sit back and wait how long it will take until you find a lost filter with a lost clamp somewhere else. I think there is a good chance for that to happen as it seems that so or so the filters all fall off only in very selected regions of the USA. Hubert
  22. As already mentioned, it's not meant for this. The idea behind it is the same that stands behind the torque support on the ride side of the rear wheel. The connecting rod must be connected to the frame, not to the swing arm. If you connect it to the swing arm it will help to avoid bending of this, but will not have any effect on driveability (so for bling only). If you connect it to the frame the whole thing will become moving and unless you invest in some really advanced machining, bushing, sealing, greasing and so on, it will result in a very early wear out of the involved parts. Even worse than that is the effect on the brake this mod will have if not done very accurate. The slightest play between anchor and sleeve will push back the brake pads so that the needed stroke of the brake lever will be noticeable negatively affected. I've seen this on a Laverda. It was so bad that the first actuation of the lever after some time always went straight into nothing. As if there was air in the snakes. It just looks nice, I don't think it's an improvement in the end. Hubert
  23. Ok, but what tool do you use for mapping, means read and interpret the eprom content, then modify and translate the figures back into bits and bites?
  24. You're using Wayne Orwigs tool? This shows the maps in a very similar way, just angle instead of 00 for instance. Hubert
  25. So you think youre'd be competitive?
