A rose by any other name would smell as sweet! A map is a map is a map...

No, the reason nobody else requires this piece of equipment is they don't have the same environment as southern CA. The conditions for the creation of photochemical smog are specific, and most of the rest of the world, while they may possess one or two of the criteria, don't have all of So.Cal.'s recipe: minimal air movement, chronic inversion layer, lots & lots & LOTS of vehicles, & most days being sunny & warm. Put'em all together & you get the EPA telling the state "Do something about this or be fined!" Call it a devil's brew of govt. bureaucracy combined with an environmental round-house kick to the head. All it adds is weight & some extra hoses. If you live in the bay area north of San Jose, well, skip it: it will not affect your environment significantly due to the constant wind, & it can be argued that the weight savings will add up to enough fuel saved over the life of the vehicle to offset any negative f/x from the added fuel vapors off-gassed. Park in the shade & call it a wash. Here in Lo-Cal So.Cal., it's not worth my time to pull it off, and since it has no negative f/x leaving it in situ and helps prevent the return of those halcyon days of yore when I was growing up in Pasadena & could count the # of days each summer on one hand that the dirty Commies didn't sneak in & steal the mountains when we weren't paying attention, well, I kind of like keeping it around. When I finally blow this taco stand and emigrate to Free America, I'll likely yank it off. Unless that's to Phoenix or Tucson or one of the handful of other places where it would still serve some useful purpose. Ride on!

Excellent pix, thanks for posting! However, it's beginning to become clear to me that Pyramid Plastics really only has two or maybe 3 molds that they then package as "correct fitment" for different bikes that are close enough to fitting that nobody much complains. Your part for the Zephyr looks identical to the one for the SV, afaict. Ah well, it's not hard to see why, when motorcycle sales are such small #s compared to cars that it's hard to justify the cost for making the molds. I sure wish the manufacturers just designed the fenders properly in the 1st place, but what're you gonna do?

Looks lovely: don't forget to change your profile info to "2000 Bassa blue" from "2004 V11 Sport red!"

Rich Maund can make the pillion's perch more comfortable... but the monoposto "beauty cover" won't fit any more! It's a function of enough padding & support to make a difference is much more than what's already there, I guess. As other's have pointed out, getting the passenger foot pegs down so her legs aren't kept bent double the whole time will also be helpful. A backrest will make a world of difference too, as she won't have to keep leaning forward the entire time; the ability to shift around to relieve pressure w/o feeling like she's going to come off the back of the bike will relieve the discomfort a lot. Yep, that means a sissy-bar or a top-box, but that's what it will take to make your pillion happy, maybe in combination w/ the seat rebuild. Otherwise, don't plan on company for trips longer than about 1/2 hour...

Last word (Aug. 2008?) was that Todd Haven @ MPH Cycles still had a few of the stainless shims left, but that was a year & 1/2 ago...

Trail is a function of triple-clamp offset. That's how Harley can get rake #s of 38deg for the V-Rod w/o correspondingly ridiculous #s for trail...

Fairly normal for worn [cupping] tires. Brand new tires will make the problem go away [almost]; it's really always there, on every motorcycle, at various speeds [on my '86 Gold Wing, 35mph is the "magic" speed.] Seriously, how often do you ride w/o at least 1 hand on the handlebars? Non-issue for most of us...

No paint to lift on our tanks...

Wouldn't the o-ring go on the other end? You know, the side w/ a pair of flat surfaces to seal [crankcase to fitting] as opposed to the end w/ a taper fitting [fitting to oil line]? But that's just my guess: I'm as much at sea as you are as to which is correct...

At >$30 a pop, I can't keep blindly "trying one on" to check for fit. I've googled like crazy trying to find an image of Aprilia fenders, but everyone keeps shooting the bike from head on or at best a 3/4 view from the front: what I need is a clear shot of the trailing edge of the front fender! Thanks for your vote, but unless you've already put one on your Guzzi and can send me a pic of it in place, I'm disinclined to just take it on faith that this is the correct fitment: after all, I've already been assured that the Triumph Adventurer & '99 SV650 parts would fit [at least I also own an example of the latter, so buying that extender wasn't a total waste... ] Thanks for your entry into the "guess which fits" contest. This contest is kinda backwards: the winners are everyone else, & the correct entry just gets a heartfelt "Thank you!"

The pic on the left looks like Danni Ashe...

Just so you can all see what I'm talking about: Triumph part fitup: SV xtenda fitup: SxS Comparisons: It's pretty clear that neither one matches the curvature of the fender where it blends from the fender proper into the arm/bracket that bolts up to the fork for mounting. Neither do the "seams" molded into the extenders properly match the trailing edge of the fender. Now that Pyramid Plastics is making extenders to fit Aprilia's, I'm thinking that's the best hope for a good fit that won't require extensive trimming.
-
So anyway, the '99-'02 SV650 fenda extenda doesn't fit much better than the Triumph part. Can Greg Field or anyone else w/ access to the parts catalogues for both Aprilia and Guzzi please chime in? I'm tired of these threads about "what fender extender fits?" and trying to adapt non-fitting parts from other bikes. If the Aprilia front fenders from the Tuono, Mille, Falco & Futura are xref'd w/ those of the Guzzi V11 Sports, Ballabio, LeMans, etc. to see if there's any part #s overlap, we may finally settle this once & for all. Knowing how Aprilia liked economies of scale from commonality, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a shared front fender. If we can determine which Aprilia fender is used on the Guzzis, I'll be happy because it will be a no-brainer to then order a fenda extenda with some expectation that it will be right & slap it on!

Moto Guzzi Tattos and mid life crisis
Skeeve replied to Bogwopit's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
As opposed to the desperately cheerful slacker we all know you to be! I'm not a fan of skin art. The vast majority of tattoos are to me, unappealingly poor choices made by their possessors. But for everyone like me, there seems to be a dozen folks who think even the ugliest tattoo is a thing of beauty. So I have to say: "Consider carefully the artistic merit of what you expect to wear on your body for the rest of your life. Once it has passed that test, go for it: it's your body, to do with as you will..." -
From old threads, it appears that Guzzi paint codes are both: Difficult to find & Limited in availability. So even if you can get the factory paint codes for these colors, you can't get them outside of Europe. Good luck.

I thought the whole "EU" thing was supposed to simplify such matters for you?

Location: So. Cal., southbound on 605, Whittier area, approx. 4pm yesterday (6May10). I was in a cage & caught sight of a V11 as they whipped by in the diamond lane [sometimes you have to break down & cage it.] Since I only caught sight of the valve covers in the rear view & thought "That's a Guzzi!" just as the rider passed me, I didn't notice what model he was on: something dark [possibly a Scura?] or black. Anyone on list want to fess up to leaving work early? I'm temporarily unemployed, so I've got an excuse! Either way, hope you had a nice ride home, it was a nice afternoon to be riding... or even stuck in traffic!

Tough time to be trying to start up in new motorcycle company in the U.S.; I get the feeling they began this process before the U.S. real estate debacle triggered this worldwide financial crisis? More power to them; not the 1st time I wished I was living in "flyover country."
-
Motor is newer than the V11, go with newer. Yes, it's a Tonti, so you could put in the older section as well. Motor & electrical questions post to newer; driveline & handling Q's posted to older? Coin toss? I guess it all depends on how you're feeling that day...
-
Much! Didn't make any sense the 1st time thru... Still, I wish you wouldn't use the term "race sag." You've got unladen sag & laden sag: no racing involved. But that's just me!
-
Sorry to cast doubts your way, Gavo: I didn't realize you had the CF front fender. Clearly, a different profile from the ABS(?) fender on the majority of V11s. Can't offer any input on whether your parts guy crossed up the P/N on your xtenda either; in situ, it's too hard to determine if it is different from the part in hand when I hold it up to the computer screen... At any rate, I think it's safe to say that the hand layup needs of the CF fender led to a different mold pattern from the injection-molded fenders on my (& other) bike(s). So that ends that mystery: if you've got the CF fender, then the Triumph part is an option, from Gavo's experience. If not, well, then not, from my experience. Empiricism shall prevail!
-
Please do. I just went & grabbed the part out of the box where it has sat for the better part of the past 2 years: yup, it's the same P/N. Let me go check... Yes. If you cut off about 1.25" (3cm) of the "ears" on either side that are supposed to help support the xtenda so it moves in unison w/ the fender instead of acting like a hinged flap at the back edge, then yes, it can be made to fit. The "indent" on the xtenda that is supposed to mate up w/ the edge of the fender to make it all look fairly seamless won't match up on the sides, but across the very back trailing edge, it will almost be a match. I'm not interested in bodge points, I want a fender extender that fits up w/o any unusual creativity required on my part so that someone looking at it later won't say to themselves "Wow, that's quite a job of forcing a fit there!.." I'm going to look into the SV extender mentioned above. Since I already have a '99-'02 SV650 [you know, one of the good-looking ones before Suzuki took to beating on them w/ the ugly stick! ], if the xtenda isn't a good match for my LeMans, well, I can always just fit it up to the correct bike! In the end, we're all dead anyway so I don't want to get your back up over this; I just don't want anyone else led down the garden path as I was thinking that the Triumph part is going to be an easy fit to our Guzzis. It's not, not even close, and I'm out $36+shipping [as of 2 years ago, before the $ fell off the exchange rate charts] for a part I can't use & can't send back [as someone else pointed out, special orders do upset the parts counter when you say "That ain't right! I don't want it after all..." ]

No pics of the left side? [Try to guess on which it was laid down & rec'd. the most damage... ] Nice tractor tires, btw! Cannot imagine how squirrelly those must get in the turns! What does everyone else think? Is there any chance this doesn't come w/ a "salvage" title? Unbelievable that it's already over $3k w/ 14 bids and the reserve still hasn't been met!
-
Hate to contradict, but don't get the official Triumph part; it doesn't fit the v11 fender.[DAMHIK] At least, not if the part# quoted above is the same # from the thread a couple years back. Ride on!
