Actually, having the brake mounted upside down like that would be beneficial if modern manufacturing processes are used and the brake fluid is forcibly introduced from the bleeder and old fluid removed at the brake reservoir. That's the process that Harley-Davidson adopted after observations made when taking a tour of the various J-4 plants prior to their turn-around in the 80s. Up til then, they'd always had difficulties getting their front brakes properly bled in production.

A computer newbie (also "nooB"); a computer gumby would be a devoted computer RPG'er ("...he can walk into any book with his pony pal Pokie too...") Either that or you fell asleep at the keyboard & woke up w/ your hair all flat on on side & poofy on the other! As for the smileys, there's a pull-down menu in the compose-a-post window with, oddly enough, a smiley face icon on it. Use that.

I think the "issues" you're thinking of were in ref. to someone thinking of getting their 'chops anodized; since it's a cast part, & cast aluminum alloys are generally not compatible w/ anodizing, that might be from whence your memory of "issues w/ the aluminum it was made of" is derived? My only experience w/ the powder coating of the pork chops is that the original paint seems difficult to get off, despite its flaking off in places. [Fortunately, it's a spare I picked up cheap 'cause of its "cancerous paint" affliction.]

Here in the States, I understand that places like Minnesota have only two seasons: snow removal & road repair! [Altho' some residents maintain it's more like "road removal & snow repair" in truth... ] I wouldn't know about this, as I adhere strongly to my uncle's view that humans came from the tropics, and hence anywhere palm trees won't grow isn't fit for human habitation!

We're running into the same sort of problems stateside. Over here, the original owner can place a restriction on the title which remains forever more when the property is sold. Hence, the only solution for these nuisance "excessive noise" complaints & lawsuits is for a developer to not only buy the land for a racetrack, shooting range, airport, whatever, but to buy all the surrounding land, ad a codicil to the title that if any noise complaints directed at the "hub" property under development arise in the future from the parcel to be resold, title will revert to the developer/hub (noise-producing) property. Obviously, this requires a heap of forethought, planning & deep pockets at the outset, which is why these sorts of properties become subject to encroaching suburban sprawl, whose residents then whine about the noise coming from the property [which was why they were able to buy so cheaply in the 1st place!] Best of luck w/ getting your Guzzi quiet again! -

Standard #s for the Beetle [not the new one, which is a Golf w/ swoopy bodywork, I mean a VW BEETLE, the only good thing Adolf Hitler has to his name...], which has a lot of overlap w/ the Guzzi [air-cooled push rod motor, donor pistons for early racing efforts, etc.] so it's to be expected. I wonder if Carillo rods for the VW are cheaper than the Guzzi, & if they're an easy swap too?

Uh, can we get a front zip cardigan style fleece, in lieu of the pullover? It's well worth an extra $5 on the price for something that you'll actually wear. I've got enough t-shirts that I can't really see spending on more of'em, but my zip cardigan Timberland sweatshirt sees constant use, much more than I originally conceived it would when I got it. Closet full of pull over sweatshirts that see no use at all now that I've got the zippy. Probably something to do w/ my untreated rotator cuff injury from my accident 5 years ago this coming May, but I just like the convenience... So, probably an XL LS Tee in red, unless a zip sweatshirt is in the offing. If so, then likely an XL and a Med (mebbe Small?) sweatshirt [matching, for me & the gf ]

Different acoustics means different harmonics means areas in the fuel/ignition map that are suboptimal may have been improved. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth: just be happy & ride!

I called the stock x-over a "cat" one time early on due to it's location & the knowledge that Guzzi was supposed to have added catalytic converters to their bikes, and Greg Field unequivocally disabused me of that notion, stating the the U.S. market v11s never got the cats: it was strictly a Euro 3? smog requirement, so in the grand tradition of using up old stock, Guzzi continued making the straight up v11 & shipping it here unstrangled. I was very happy to hear this, and have never had any reason to doubt any of Greg's data on "Guzzi insider tech info," figuring he was a lot closer to the source than any of the rest of us. Since Moto International quite literally "wrote the book" on Guzzis, I suspect that even if the factory claimed that they had installed cats in the U.S. bikes, Dave Richardson, Greg & the rest of the fine folks at MI would know the real truth of it... But an unbaffled x-over will likely be a trifle louder than the stock one [which is more of a pre-muffler than a crossover if you ask me] and in combination with drilling out underneath the end caps [search elsewhere on the forum for modifying the stock cans for more details] may supply all the music that the OP would ever want [& certainly all his neighbors would ever want! ]

For the majority of women, the sole quality of technology is how it is used; thus, their failure to grasp why one would ride a Bike instead of a car - they're both "transportation appliances," and in the female mind, the car trumps motorcycle for utility. This is why the vast majority of women, who are asked "You got a new car? What kind?" will respond "A blue one" [or insert other relevant color choice here.] This is because, as an appliance, the only pertinent question to the female mind is "what does it match?" not "how does it function?" since, as a car, it functions like any other member of the vast class of "cars", ie - it has 4 wheels and goes when you twist the key & push on the long skinny pedal to the right. Viva la difference!

O.K., so at the bottom of the fairing beneath the headlight, there's a plate the blanks off the bottom of the steering head that attaches to the fork stanchions and closes off the underside of the fairing. Besides the obvious (somewhat limited?) aerodynamic benefits and obvious help with preventing road crud & weather from infiltrating the fairing at speed, it appears from casual observation that you have to take apart the forks to get this @#!$& thing out of there w/o cutting it off! Admittedly, it's in a difficult position to really sort out what needs to be done to remove the pieces in the way, but short of removing the beauty cover at the top of the steering stem & using a long boy drill bit to drill out through the bottom fascia - the entire point to this exercise being to put the hole back in the bottom of the steering stem this plate obscures in order to use a front end stand that indexes via a pin in the bottom of the steering stem as God & motorcycle nature intended - I just don't see what other option I have. Any pointers, anyone? Pete? Greg? Bueller?

I know the Furia has been available for a couple of years; don't know if they offered it in kit form before... My understanding was you had to pay altogether too much money for what amounted to a fairly stock Guzzi w/ a skin job. At €4k & IMNSHO, d@mn ugly, it'll be a long, long, longlonglong time before I go down this road...

He's not just whistling "Dixie" here, folks: if you do a linear regression & plot the incidence of adult onset diabetes against the per capita consumption of cow's milk, you get this wonderfully straight line. It's so perfect, it's used as an illustration in statistics textbooks. Goats milk, people, goat's milk! That's the one to drink... And lately their diabetes rate per capita has been climbing. I wonder if there's a correlation? Well, it widely seems to be the case that the impoverished eat a more healthful diet than the wealthy. Not talking about in America, where the poor idiotically spend all their income on eating at MickeyD's, but in agrarian societies in general. And until quite recently, the Japanese, as a culture, tended to adhere quite strictly to their traditional diet [which was that of a fairly poor country, as befitted the tenets of Buddhism which had been incorporated into that culture for a half dozen centuries or so...] -

Hey Pete: for the next run, do you think you can get them to list the horizontal axis with something useful like rpm, instead of that ridiculous "km/hr" on your graph above? Failing that, can you post which gear (I assume top) & what the conversion is [6th is a .90 overdrive, right? And what's the ratio for the CARC final drive?.. This is giving me a headache just thinking about it...] Looking good there: what kind of power do you think she'll make when you can eliminate the overfueling at the top end?

No, it just means that they've different flow rates across the range. I made no claims whether their need for mapping changes were due to being more or less restrictive, just that they'd require "rejetting." [Actually, they're both, depending upon where in the rpm range you are... which only stands to reason, as they'll profoundly affect harmonics vs. the airbox.]

Well, newest conclusion seems to be that best power is attained by keeping the stock box & drilling the lid per Phil A's (? - sorry, it's been awhile) method [some dry-lake LSR racer friend of Roper's down under where since they're all upside down the blood rushes to their heads encouraging independent thinking: witness John Britten's success at making a ram-air system that improved aerodynamics, despite Gthyni's claims to the contrary at the start of this thread... ] However, pods look so dang cool, and being right out where you can get at them may encourage more proper/frequent filter maintenance. They'll definitely upset your fueling map tho', so you'd better be prepared w/ a PC3 or some other mapping aid before you go down that route. Well,there you have it: you're working toward a particular look, regardless of performance f/x. Get the PC3 & go to town...
