I FITTED THE HAWKER BATTTERY TO MY ROSSO, WORKS FINE AT AROUND £95 FROM CORSA ITALIANA

Hi folks, looking for some thought on this one. Its real difficult to explain but I do my best. 2000 Rosso Mandello. This bike has always impressed me with its ability to run down to very low rpm without judder or apparent distress and then pull away cleanly and strongly. I realise that i am asking a lot to run as low as 1200rpm and then with a whif of gas glide away but thats wat its always done. Things have changed! Now it feels like its missing at low rpm,its not running on one cylinder as such but something is not right. Its so difficult to explain, its more of a feeling... Three times in one day I stalled the bike pulling away, wheras it used to pull away virtually with no gas at all now you need to rev a little and slip the clutch. It feels although its missing its very low down torque. And yet I cant say it missfires that you can hear or feel as a vibration. My thoughts so far are..a partially blockd injector nozzle...a dirty air filter, an air leak on the inlet rubbers, a tight valve..an ignition coil failing-low on kv.perhaps some dirt on the timing pick up? I really dont know where to look first!! Incidentally I have changed the spark plugs. When revs pick up over say 2000rpm all feels as normal and performance is strong otherwise. So guys, your thoughts please....I am a qualified car mechanic so have some idea wat I am on about but this puzzles me at the moment. i intend to start with the tappet clearances as I never checked them! Then the air filter next and I guess while there a fuel filter would not do any harm at 12000miles. Incidentally I also feel a coarseness through the footrests on a neatral throttle but feel this a different problem on its way!

Just like to add my rear wheel bearings failed too, at 10500miles whilst in the Isle O Mann during TT week. I feel this to be far to early and suspet the spacer too short. My bike a 2000 Rosso.

Hi all, just wanna say I took the carbon fairing off my Rosso last week to change the headlamp lens. I hav'nt put it back on yet and when I rode the bike without it I was amazed just how well that little carbon fairing does work! It really is doing a useful job and I shall be refitting it tomorrow night before I travel to the V twin rally. Ride safely everyone.

Hi folks, love me V1100 rosso mandello and consider it to be a great alternative to the masses of competant but mainly sterile bikes out there. Yes, it does/had/ have its faults...engine paint, neutral light, occasional glitch on starter, engine oil leak, failed rear wheel bearing, rear brake lamp switch, battery failure after only two years, sidepanels cracking,......... but...I ride it hard..very hard at times (not many V1100s u see wheelie up the road)! and it comes back for more, the engine is still as sweet as when new and its done around 14000miles now. It sounds great with renagade aftermarket pipes and goes well enough for me to kill myself if I dont watch out! It stays with my mates unless they have a longish straight piece of road and looks the dogs danglies! It feels like a real motorbike it rattles and shakes on idle.. Whenever its parked up people stop and admire.. It handles as well as I can corner.. In short it has CHARACTER. Its only drawback is the lack of support or interest from Guzzi! It is actually a nicely engineered motorcycle despite all its niggles. I would hate to part with it...ever.

Many good wishes for you both, children are the most rewarding thing for anyones life. Cherish every moment you can spend with them, dont give up any time you could be beside them because they will grow up all too quickly and those moments will be gone. Take picture after picture too. Try to balance the work/home thing too with the emphasis on 'home' wherever possible even if it means less in the paypacket! well, thats the speech over!! Good luck, and go thank your missus again for what she is giving you.

Hi all, just wanted to add my Rosso Mandello suffered exactly the same timing cover oil leak, top rh side near mounting point the gasket protruding from the cover. Real odd they all fail in the same place! Of course mine failed when I was away on the Isle O Mann at the TT !! Top marks to Paul Dedman Performance on the island, they had it fixed within 24hrs for me. As a final comment I needed them again this year when the bevel box side rear wheel brg failed, again during the TT. Once again fixed instantly!
-
HI,exactly same on my 02 Roso. I stripped beval box off bike . Paintsripped all old off.Sprayed etch primer then used a engine heat resistant satin matt black paint Results fine but of course lost thefactory crinkle... Off to the TT in couple of days and when return will start thinking of tackling engine paint which looks terible now...... But hey,,its a Guzzi an I love it!
-
Bet I can tell you EXACTLY wat has happened, same thing on my 02Rosso. I had been traveling at around 70mph and started slowing through gears for a junction. The engine cut out dead. I pulled over and engine made sound on starter like no compression. When I got bike home (dealers all to busy to look for me) I found valve gear not moving,I stripped out timing cover and cam sprocket fell out! The big nut holding it had come right out. Little internal damage to front cover but otherwise all ok. Retimed up and fitted bolt with locktite! This bike had only done 400miles! Be interested to see your findings !!!!

I wouldnt part with mine....... I also first saw the bike at the NEC show but although I kept going back for another look it was priced too dearly for me...However the seed had been sown and a year or so later my local guzzi dealer still had a rosso sitting in his showroom....he kindly lent me his demo v1100sport to get a feel for the guzzi way. I rode the v1100 for 24hrs and was taken by its character,so different from my 1200 suzuki bandit!! However the dealer wouldnt budge on the ticket price of the rosso so I left it in the showroom....Months later a rosso turned up in MCN and I raced up north with a van and cash,I returned with a used rosso with only 300miles on it!! a bargain!! was I pleased or what!! However after returning from my first ride on it it caught fire due to a fuel leak and burned my garage down.... hmmmmm, its that guzzzi character thing again!! I struggled to get its replacment value from my insurers as I had only insured it for what i had paid for it....you try and find another to replace it unless its brand new,and you try to find another new one!! Hey guess what.....my local dealer still had the one in his showroom and he had just given up the franchise...he was ready to do a deal!! so I added a little more cash and rode away on a new rosso albeit with 90miles on it{demo ride I was told)...bullshit this was later found to be. so,how many other people have owned two rosso's? not many I am sure.. ( I do know of one other who has had two,Sally who lives in France! She lent hers to someone who unfortunately dropped it up the road...OOOOOOPS ARNO!!) Everyone who has one is pleased with them despite the problems with relays, clutches, crackle black paint and others beside... On the subject of Guzzi building more than 300, these of course would not have the numbered plate or the certificate would they? Mine incidently did not have numbered plates only limited edition certificates (UK bikes). HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL YOU ROSSO PEOPLE OUT THERE, take care...andy
