  1. Hello All,

The valve adjustment piece I did several years ago needs a new home. Does anybody have a web site where I can put the files for use by interested Gussistas?

I'll have to round up the files so I can't give you an exact file size but it isn't huge.

    Thanks,

  2. Harley does build quiet, high performance mufflers. Whoever told you otherwise is a moron. Harley stopped making illegal ("off road only") mufflers a few years ago. The mufflers on my Tour Glide are factory parts, emissions and noise legal and flow very well. :bike:

Assholes (AKA Fags) make noise because they are assholes, not because it is necessary.

  3. One more idea: Penetrating oil, the real stuff, NOT WD40. Put a generous amount of penetrating oil at the junction between the boom box and the headers, come back in a few hours and warm it up with heat gun. No grantees but this works well most of the time. If it doesn't come loose then I'd agree with idea of pulling the headers out of the heads.

As a bit of unsolisited advice, put anti-seaze on the joints and the threads of the nuts and bolts when you put it back together. The job will go much more smoothly next time. It is a Guzzi, there will be a next time. ^_^

  4. The older aircooled Buells do have some soul- I think it is a shame that Buell has been dumped but I guess understandable- I have never seen an 1125 on the road since it was launched. Too fugly.

The 1125 was indeed launched in the US and I've ridden one. It was the first Buell that didn't ask the rider to adapt, it didn't shake at idle, it was redlined as high as other big twins, it was very comfortable for a sport bike, it stopped, turned and accelerated very well. Looks are a mater of opinion but IRL the white 1125R with blue trim was beautiful to my eye. The 1125CR was not pretty but it carried off the "I'm bad" look as well as anything other then maybe a Speed Triple. If you measure looks by how much it looks like other bikes the 1125s may have been ugly but they were the first Buell since the "tubers" I really liked.

Several of the comments above do a better job then I did of making my point. How many of you making negative comments about Buells actually rode one? Buells had their problems and styling wasn't a strong suit but they were really fun to ride. More importantly, they gave people an option different from the "can't tell them apart without a program" bikes that dominate today. I think is very sad that even here on a site devoted to a bike just as out of the mainstream as Buell and that has as many problems as Buells people make the same comments you hear on other sites about Guzzis. If you tried a Buell and didn't like it that is fine but to make snide comments in total ignorance isn't very impressive.

Enjoy your Guzzi, it may well be the last out of the mainstream bikes in production unless you want a 25 HP Indian Royal Enfield.

  5. For those of you who haven't ridden a recent Buell, these are/ were great bikes. I had plans to buy an XB12XT (the touring version of the Ulysses) after renting one for a day. Another monument to the rigidity and narrow mindedness of many motorcycles. It doesn't look like a everything so it must be junk.

I'm glad Guzzi is still (barley) alive so people who don't what to be like everybody else have a choice left.

  6. Favorite Land of Oz factoid: West Australia is FIVE TIMES the size of Alaska and has 1 million people almost all of whom live in the south-west corner of the state near Perth. Tourists drinking their urine indeed!

Great map, it will be helpful when trying to explain how big Australia is to a European. Anybody seen a map with Europe over the US and/ or Canada? The continental US is about the same size as OZ, Canada is even bigger.

Its been ten years since I've been down there and almost that long since I've been to NZ, I'm way over due for a visit. :bier:

  7. Lex,

    try on google.

The word is "noleggio" or "rent"

You can choose Milano or Roma as city.

It will cost 15 min. to find out what's on the web.

I don't know what your friends are looking for, but the companies have few motorcycles for rent and that's what your friends have to do with.

    cheers, Antonio

    Antonio,

Thanks, that is helpful for us language challenged Americans.

    Regards,

  8. Orson,

Thanks for the input but while rent a Guzzi would be great for me my friends were thinking something more like a 250 or 400 sport bike. We don't get any sport bikes under 600 over here, the grass is always greener on the other side so Mallory and Jeff (my friends) were hoping to try something they couldn't get here.

  9. Hi,

A couple of my friends are taking off Sunday for a few weeks in Europe. They are sport bike riders (her Ninja 250 and 675 Triumph, him 2 GSXR1000s), track day regulars and they'd like to rent a bike for a day or two while they are in Italy. What they found looking on the 'net is expensive rates on BMWs and other touring bikes. Can any of you suggest a local place to rent something sporty near Milan or Rome? Bikes not available in the US (i.e. small sport bikes) would be great. B)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Lex

  10. Andrew,

If you put what is in several posts together you get:

    1. It has a lot to do with your flexibility and the condition of your body.

    2. You can move things around a bit to get more room.

    3. If you like the bike you'll work it out.

I'm the same hight but a bit shorter in the inseam (34") and 53 years old. My pegs are stock, my legs get a bit uncomfortable several hours into a ride but not painfully. My bars are up and back roughly 2" each, I had more problems with my damaged wrists and left hand then my legs so I moved the bars and kept the pegs were they were.

    YMMV,

  11. I don't know about the Itchy guy but the Highwayman has been around for a while. I first ran across him about 8 years ago, he was spouting the same line of BS back then. My recollection is that he is dead serious, has absolutely no humor intended and no sense of irony about the crap he constantly excretes onto the 'net. He is really sad, more delusional than most of the people in therapy.

On the other thread, I'm not much on trains but I'd take just about any WWII fighter over a modern plane. My first choice would be a P38 but a Spitfire, BF109, Zero, or about anything else would be more fun then a jet. Yes, this a pretty romantic group, all the pragmatic types are on the Honda boards.

Back to the original topic, Guzzi's, like Harleys, are about things that can't be measured in pounds or millimeters, you feel it or you don't. The Guzzi and the Harley provide an experience that is as much inside my mind as outside.

  12. The Arai helmets have different shapes to fit any head. My noggin is more oval and I found the Vector fit me really well so I bought this fancy one. The color is not purple like in the pic but different shades of bright red.

    Waspp,

You've been spending too much time talking to Arai salesmen. I'm happy you found a helmet you like but a helmet that fits one head don't mean "Arai helmets have different shapes to fit any head". Nobody makes helmets that fit everyone.

I made the mistake of buying this lie, I did a brief test fit and bought a "Shoei head" Aria. After two hours it felt like I had a C-clamp (G-clamp, in the Queen's English) on my head that got tighter every few miles. A very expensive helmet that set in my garage for years to remind me not to make that mistake again. No Aria fits me but my new Zox fits perfectly, not to mention it was $108 USD shipped. Hell, I've had Shoei RF series helmets since the RF200, my last RF1000 didn't fit very well. I bought the Zox well before the Shoei was worn out because the RF1000 made me want to pull over sooner just to get my helmet off.

I don't know how the AGVs fit but at 475 quid I'll take the position that Ago is rich enough and I don't need to buy his helmet to make him even more money.

  13. Another big rider of the little farm from Borgo Panigale has ended his career on the track with a great double in Portugal.

Another Aussie. Like Doohan and now maybe Stoner.

Next year we will see Haga on the bike of Troy.

Aprilia has got Biaggi and Nakano.

    Xaus goes BMW

Nothing important to add but I'll really miss the guy. Bayliss never, ever gave less then 100%. Some times he managed to deify limits and gave 110%, the wins and the crashes were equally spectacular on the 110% days. My only regret is he had such a bad day at the US WSB round this year. I drove a long way to be there and seeing Troy one more time was a lot of the motivation. Oh well, I'll never forget his fights with Edwards between 2000 - 2002.

  14. Is it true the 250cc will be replaced by the 600cc?

    Antonio,

I haven't had an update for a while but I understand the FIM will replace the 250 two-strokes with some format of 600 four-strokes in 2010. Personally, I'm looking forward to the change but ring-ding fans might disagree.

I understand the challenge is keeping the costs from going through the roof. Smaller cylinders wouldn't change the cost of racing a bike so a 600 class with full MotoGP type class wouldn't make much sense. I've read it will be something like standard crankcases and crankshaft with special heads and chassis and be called MotoGP2.

  15. What I can't figure out is why some bright bulb at Speed (there must be one) does buy the rights to an Australian or New Zealand superbike series (they do some car stuff) and broadcast it up here During the winter. They speak (almost) the same language as Americans would be relatively easy to re-broadcast the races, instead Speed's ratings must go in the toilet since even NASCAR shuts down for a few months.

    Just wondering,

  16. Bizarre. Even odder, many of the tuned ones I have found carry three carbs....

That would be the classic "Triple Deuces", just another strange thing that comes from the US car culture. Since they ran the carbs into a big plenum chamber before the intake runners it didn't really matter how many holes feed the engine.

Not to get off topic but, but have you ever seen a Ford Flat Head V-8 apart? The exhaust valves are in the center of the V, the ports wrap around the cylinders to get the the three ports per side of the block. My father told me Henry Ford was obsessed with keeping the engine warm so he insisted the V-8 be laid out that way. When Ford bought Lincoln they changed the flat head Lincoln V-12 so the exhaust ran like the Ford V-8 instead of out the center of the V like it had been designed.

Three two barrel carbs are just the start of the silliness. Think of all the work engineers are doing now to shorten exhaust ports to cut the amount of heat transferred to the head by the hot exhaust, I'm sure 'ol Henry would have made them stop that! :)

  17. I guess this just shows beauty is in the beholder. From the lists here I've owned:

Yamaha XV920RH (Virago variant AKA the Yama-cati)

BMW K75 S (I still think a very pretty bike)

BMW R100R (OK, ugly but a great bike)

    I consider exceptionally good looking:

Ducati Passo (Set trends that changed motorcycle styling)

BMW K1 (The only street bike ever designed for aerodynamics instead of looks)

K100RS (one of the most beautiful bikes ever released, especially in Madison Silver)

    Everybody's got an opinion,

    Lex

  18. It's a V8. The middle cylinders share the middle exhaust port.

Truly amazing how hard Henry and the boys at Ford worked to insure the flat head V-8 would overheat.

Anyway, not my cup 'o tea but I'm just happy to see anybody trying to be an individual. I'm pretty sick of credit card customes, sport bike or chopper.

  19. I'm with Skeeve on the new Guzzi vote. I'd love to see them all come to market, but a new LeMans or Sport is what I'd buy if I was in the market for a new Guzzi.

I can't imagine that even a member of the Village People would want to be seen on this new BMW monstrosity. This thing should be part of the FUGLY definition in Wikipedia. Hideous!

Crap, now I'll be hearing YMCA in my head the rest of the day. Where is that Campbell Motorcycle Accessories/ Disco Sucks tee shirt?

    Anyway...

Having owned more then a dozen BMWs I obviously disagree about all BMWs being ugly but I have to strongly agree about this mess. Doesn't anybody review the styling before it is OK'ed for production? :vomit:

I seem to be one of the few that really likes the 1200 Sport (yes, I know it is Breva in sporty clothes, that is part of what I like) so I voted for a 1200 Sport with a big 8V motor.
